These snowmobilers came across a pair of moose ears poking out of the snow …

Excerpt:

A remote area around Gros Morne National Park in Newfoundland doesn’t see many passersby on the best of days. But on a freezing late December day, the odds of a moose stuck in a snowbank finding a lifeline get even leaner.

In fact, when a group of Canadian snowmobilers came across the hapless animal, he was all but entombed in that icy grave.

Just ears poking out from the vast, snowy expanse.

But that fighting moose spirit was alive and well. And the will to help was strong in those who came across him.

“You could tell he was frantically trying to get out of the hole that he had himself in,” one of the snowmobilers, Jonathan Anstey, told CBC News.

About 15 minutes later — with a careful blend of shoveling and coaxing, Antsey noted in a Facebook post — the moose was soon on the loose.

These snowmobilers came across a pair of moose ears poking out of the snow …

Ok, I know I already told you guys to look at this, but if those are not the most fucked-up districts you’ve seen… Then I do not want to live in your state.

District 6 is actually non-contiguous, seemingly in two places. Who allowed that?! District 3 as well.

Whoever drew those borders… Well, I would like to have been present for the meetings where they did so. And thank goodness these districts were only in place for five years, from 1993 to 1998.

I know I’ve said before, though probably not on Tumblr, but I can’t wait to read testimony/deposition transcripts from someone tasked with making gerrymandering algorithms. Or someone who commissioned them. It’s only a matter of time. Here I wait. I will have my satisfaction.

fractal madness

These are not the most fucked up districts I’ve ever seen. I live in Illinois. Ladies, gentlemen, and various others, I present to you the earmuffs.

one has to wonder, is this really so wrong? is strictly geographic representation actually superior?

Lads, might I present my once homeland (now living in NC because of course)

The state of Texas

Notice that the city of Austin has five districts segmenting it, with one of those districts extending up to around Dallas–roughly 300km.

Texas is a very large state, but it is an open secret just like the NC district map that this was done entirely to dilute influence of the larger cities.

that’s amusing, congresspeople with 300km long districts should be required to maintain an office at either end and spend at least an hour a day in each one.

That would require a level of accountability that the people of Texas simply cannot bear lest the tyrannt of common sense enslave them.
