I was in line at Aldi and this girl with two toddlers in front of me had her card declined and she looked so fucking sad and said “let me call my husband real quick” and it was only 18 dollars, so I just paid for it, and she was very sweet and then as she walked off, the lady behind me said `”You know that was probably a scam, right?” and like, even if it was, like what a sad fucking scam, right? 18 dollars at the Aldi. If you’re “scamming” me for some Tyson chicken and apple juice and cauliflower, then just take my fucking money.

“A scam” people are fucking wild.

This happened to me, too. A woman had used WIC for the majority of her stuff (which I say from personal experience is such a long and embarrassing process) and to buy the remainder of her groceries, which included diapers and wipes, she used a card, and it got declined. I bought the other $30 of her groceries because hey, I’ve been there, and now I’m not. She was extremely emotional and began to cry and even hugged me. My mom called me on the drive home and could tell I had been crying myself, asked what was wrong, and when I told her what happened, she berated me for being “duped.” I couldn’t believe she could be so disappointed in one of her children for doing something- nice? Is that the hill you want to die on? Getting mad about people needing groceries?

I once paid for a woman’s bill at the vet…it wasn’t a big one, but she was trying to pay for some medication for her dog, and her card was declined. And her lip started trembling, and she says “I don’t get paid until Tuesday, would he be ok until then?”

So I just told them to add the $20 something onto my bill, and I thought she was going to break down crying right there.

And I don’t care if it was a scam or not. Just do nice things for people sometimes.

Do good recklessly.

I think “Do good recklessly” would be fantastic word art to hang on one’s wall. Artistic people, go!

Yeah the Rudolph elf meme is funny, but are we really forgetting about all the other great and bizarre Christmas specials moments, like when Rankin/Bass beat DreamWorks to the idea of “Hot Jack Frost” by more than 30 years?

image

How about when they made a Nativity fanfic with a misfit donkey and a baby angel?

image

That Santa Claus started off giving toys exclusively to depressed World War I-era German children? (Did I mention he was a ginger)

image

We also shouldn’t gloss over the time when Rudolph teamed up with a caveman, a knight and goddamn Benjamin Franklin not to walk into a bar but to save the Baby New Year.

image

Really, Rudolph could fill up this entire list all by himself, considering that he also teamed up with Frosty the Snowman one time to fight this wintery motherfucker

image

WHO HAS GIANT ICE DRAGONS TAKE THAT NIGHT KING

image

And is one of the five or six clowns who are supposed to be running winter in this universe (they were not very creative when it came to making up bad guys apparently)

image

And later dies in the most HORRIFYING WAY POSSIBLE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT SHOW THIS MOVIE TO CHILDREN AGE FIVE AND UNDER

image

Oh, and by the way, Rudolph is also Reindeer Jesus. Look it up.

Confirmed: God is a woman.

“Oh, you have to be patient with older people, they’re from a different time, things were different when they were growing up.”

In the middle of the Civil War, Newton Knight deserted the Confederate army and went back home to Ellisville, Mississippi where he teamed up with other deserters and escaped slaves to fight a guerrilla war against the Confederacy, eventually making it impossible for the Confederates to move troops or supplies through south Mississippi between the Pascagoula river and Alabama. After the war, Newt married a Black woman and bullied other white dudes into joining the Union League. What the FUCK is your excuse, Meemaw?

Fun fact, I’m related to this guy (as is a lot of people whose family are from so-so Mississippi (where he went to after the war with his first AND second wife that both were pretty damn cool) back to the civil war like my gradmother’s side is) and everytime a family member from said side of our family makes racist remarks I have the intense urge to bring this up.

Another fun fact, a lot of people who live there now apparently consider him a traitor still, so he’s still making people pissed off from the grave. If he was able to do something that was so radical back then to still even piss off people CURRENTLY by fucking off to a swamp and becoming southern Robin Hood, grandpa and grandma has no excuse.

This is completely valid, but let’s also point out…  the civil rights movement was like…. not last week.  I’m middle-aged, and it all took place before I was born.  “From a different time” means that they managed to pass through half a goddamn century of social progress untouched.  That’s something that should get them derided, not a reason to give them slack.

You may have noticed I haven’t been online for a few weeks. That’s because
I’ve been very sick with a respiratory infection that left me
hardly able to speak or leave bed for almost a month, and cost me dearly in
medications.

I’ve just been to my fourth doctor appointment this month and been slapped with an enormous, unexpected bill. This has come atop my insurance premiums now taking a quarter of my tiny income each month, and being prescribed
important and expensive new medications not covered by insurance. All in all, my medical expenses now cost more than my rent. I’m multiply disabled and my total income is about half of what a full time minimum wage job pays.

I was able
to work out a payment plan for my doctor bill but even the smallest
payment possible leaves me just barely enough to afford my prescriptions
for the month, with mayyyybe $10 left over for food and transportation
and any other necessities for the next 3ish weeks.

I hate to ask again, but I’m a
little desperate. If you’re a financially comfortable adult who
genuinely wants to help,
I have paypal and a wishlist of food and other necessities.

I would be deeply grateful for even a dollar. Please don’t feel pressured, though – I know things are tough for a
lot of people right now.
