BLACKFEET TRIBE STATE OF EMERGENCY!

We need food in Blackfeet Nation.

Blackfeet Nourish has been providing food for the Medicine Bear Shelter and Blackfeet Food Bank for more than six years. The month of February has been grueling. Blackfeet [Nation reservation] has been hit by blizzard after blizzard with hurricane-force winds. Many people around Blackfeet Nation are both trapped in their homes and trapped out of their homes, in shelters, and other people’s homes.

100% of the donations will go to food for the Blackfeet Nation and dispersed [by] the shelter and as directed by Blackfeet Tribe’s Incident Command Center.

Go to: http://nourishtheflathead.org/donate/ and please indicate “Blackfeet Nourish” in the message line

If you can’t donate, PLEASE signal boost! Niisiniyitaki!

Is this still accurate? I donated to this like 2 years ago

It was from the beginning of this year

It’ll always be accurate as long as someone’s in need. Like????

Please, give me Standard Medical Care | Evil Autie

clatterbane:

When I go in, I literally pray, “PLEASE let this be something obvious and easy to diagnose.” Because if it’s not, I’m going to get injected with psych drugs I don’t need, have my other medications discontinued in favor of this month’s preferred drug, be told that I don’t really hurt, and have my file annotated with “drug seeking.” Seriously, I’d rather have a heart attack than a severe, but non-life-threatening, pain when I go to the ER. The heart attack they will find quickly and treat effectively – because they can ignore everything I say and still treat it. But they will ignore everything I say if what I say is essential to diagnose the real problem. Just once, I’d like to go to an ER – or have my disabled friends go to an ER – and be believed from the start when we say we hurt and need help. Just once.

I’m not so sure about the heart attack, especially while AFAB. (And diabetic, and expecting to need to fight to avoid getting put on contraindicated statins again soon–with the idea of reducing the elevated risk of heart attacks…)

But, excellent post overall. I didn’t want to go totally overboard quoting, but the whole thing is well worth a read.

‘Fake It Till You Make It’ Doesn’t Work With Chronic Illness

chronically-illustrated:

Instead, the options are:

‘Fake It Till You Are So Ill You Can’t Get Out Of Bed’

‘Fake It Till You Have A Flare’

‘Fake It Till You Have A Flare, Continue To Fake It Till You’re Hospitalised‘

OR

‘Accept That You Have One Or More Chronic Illnesses, Adapt Accordingly And Look After Yourself’

This is really important. I grew up believing I had to just use mind over matter to power past my symptoms, and that eventually led to a complete mental and physical breakdown that left me unable to walk on my own for a month. We really need to get rid of the idea that people aren’t trying hard enough if they don’t push themselves to the breaking point. It can be really harmful to pretend you’re okay when you’re not, especially if you’re struggling with chronic illnesses. It’s okay to accept that you have limitations and set boundaries so you’re not hurting yourself trying to keep up with able-bodied people.

tumblr puts a relatively inoffensive post on your dashboard because it’s in a tag you follow, and it’s fine… but then the same post appears over and over and over, until you can’t be arsed seeing it again, and you go to click to close it – and tumbr puts some words like ‘ugh this post sucks’…and it’s like…no tumblr, it’s not the post, it’s you. you suck.

Unfriendly fucking reminder that the best predictor of mass shootings is not mental illness, but being an angry young white man who has recently experienced rejection and has easy access to guns.

Bringing this back because it makes terrible people angry. And I’ll add a note to all the people saying “But you’d have to be mentally ill to do that!”: Mental illness is, by definition, abnormal. Does “mediocre white boy is so entitled that he resorts to violence when told no” really sound particularly unusual to you?

I devoted my entire graduate studies and thesis on mass school shootings, multiple murderers, and criminal psychology and I can tell you that this is in fact completely true and is suported by an unbelievable amount of emperical, quantifiable data that I slaved over for years. 💯
