I would call him that to his face. I would call him a pedophile and a sexual predator. When I turned 25, I looked at every 14-year-old boy I could see, to try to understand what those men had seen, because I still on some level thought I had been a tiny adult. That whole year I was 25, I tried to just see the ones who were like six-foot-two, and 200 pounds — they all looked like children. They all looked like somebody who was 10 years old four years ago. Nobody looks fuckable. Nobody … I couldn’t conjure it up. I couldn’t conjure up the desire. It was nauseating to think of having sex with them, and that was, I think, certainly when I understood, on a very deep level, these men were fucked up. Up until then, I just thought about him as somebody who had really done me wrong and tried to rape me, but not as somebody who had functioned as a predator. And then, if you’re interested in sexual predation, you start to read about it, and you realize all these patterns and techniques, and it all kind of falls within a set of practices.

I hate Freud.

His whole weird theory about penis envy and children being sexually attracted to their parents and secret desires and all that shit actually came straight out of an attempt to ally himself with wealthy and influential rapists and was a direct form of victim blaming.

He had started the research looking into “hysteria” which at the time was really usually referring to women’s symptoms of PTSD. It turned out that the reason so many woman had these symptoms is because so many of them had experienced sexual violence– especially CSA and incest at the hands of their fathers. 

At first he was making real progress, and it was through working with these women that he discovered that talk therapy could be used to treat trauma. The symptoms of PTSD were lessened when women were able to safely speak about their experiences out loud and be believed. 

But it wasn’t the women who paid for the therapy. It was their fathers, husbands, the same men who were perpetuating the violence in the first place. And Freud didn’t want to validate his patients (the women) if it meant making his clients (the men) unhappy.

So he came up with a new idea. These symptoms weren’t from trauma. The memories weren’t real. These women were just sexual beings as children and had penis envy and it made them lust for their fathers and fantasize about the rape that they had reported to him. That’s where the shittiest parts of Freud’s theories emerged.

Another part of it besides just the monetary aspect, though, was that there was a feminist movement on the fringes starting up at the time and by publishing work about women’s CSA he would be aligning himself with it and therefore losing support, respect, funding, prestige from his male peers and from the psychological community at large. He literally made that gross victim blaming shit up to keep his own reputation with these fucks and to make sure he still got publication and fame.

By coming up with fake theory about little girls fantasizing about incest he not only fucked over generations of women, the feminist movement that was arising, and the entire psychology field for years to come, but he also completely swept away any progress made in understanding trauma and so we didn’t have any clue why men coming back from war had “hysteria” like women during WWI.

And our research on PTSD and trauma is still lacking to this day, especially because of the stigma that maybe traumatized people deserved it or wanted it or imagined it. People don’t want to believe it’s real. Perpetrators of traumatic violence want everyone to forget about it, not acknowledge it, or trivialize it.

And they have Freud’s cultural legacy to help them.

If you want some more, just google, “Sigmund Freud Seduction Theory Problematic.” There’s lots of academic and non-academic discussion on the topic, but TLDR Sigmund Freud is basically disregarded in almost all aspects of psychology by anyone who actually cares about their patients, so fuck that guy for holding psychology back.

Words cannot express how much I hate Freud. His theories have been entirely disproven by current psychological research, but using him to interpret literary texts is still a widely accepted technique in the field of literary study today.

English departments across the country will not bat an eye at tenured professors bringing Freud into lectures and citing him in scholarly articles and books. Doing a “Freudian reading” of a literary character or theme is regarded as a valid means of understanding and drawing meaning from works by authors as diverse as William Shakespeare, James Joyce, and C.S. Lewis. And it is based entirely on this guy’s unbelievably sexist, flat-out fraudulent, and thoroughly disproven research. It’s insane.

I need people to listen to this, because although his methods might be of use, his entire theoretical work is just fucking lies and bullshit misogyny.

And more importantly (at least to me), it was an utter fucking tragedy and failure of courage. He had his reasons: he was a Jewish intellectual working in Vienna in his day and age. He was in a risky position, and I think that is important to recognize (especially in terms of talking about him vis any and every other subsequent theorist/etc in the field who wasn’t a Jewish man working in a hugely anti-semitic society, okay. *coughJungcough*). His choices were difficult. 

But he was still then given the confidence and trust of a whole population of people who also marginalized – who had been hideously victimised and brutalised – and instead of finding solidarity with them and serving the truth, the truth he knew, he sided with their oppressors (who were, for the most part, also his, as they were mostly wealthy white Christian men of money and repute), and reaped the benefits. 

And he did it in a way that revictimised the people who trusted him and led to years of further victimisation and harm, almost always of those who were already vulnerable, already victimised, as people were misled by his capitulation rather than led by what he had originally found – what we now know to have been true, but which we basically had to re-fucking-build from scratch through the rest of the century. 

He was in a risky position, and he chose to bend to the status quo, to bow to the powerful, to betray the already violated women who trusted him, and set up generations of women of all backgrounds, and of young men, for further violation and betrayal and that’s a fucking tragedy. 

And I think it’s important that all parts of that be known and considered, especially by those going into fields where they might have to make the same kinds of choices. Because it’s easy to condemn him outright, and don’t get me wrong: I think he failed his patients and he failed the field he started and left us with a huge fucking mess (and yes ye gods if I never have to fucking hear of “Freudian” analysis in literature again* it will be too fucking soon) but it is also important to remember, I think, that other part: 

He was someone at risk in society, who was handed a very dangerous decision to make, that could have had serious consequences for him personally (beyond those of a European Christian man or intellectual) if he’d made the other choice, so he stuck with safety – and it still had all the consequences it had, and harmed all the people it did. 

It’s something to think about, I think. Long and hard.

although it’s true AO3 does allow all fannish content provided it’s properly warned for, there’s a long history there – of spaces being used by fans until the host decided whatever we were doing was too weird and distasteful and either kicking us off, banning certain content, or changing the nature of the site until it was no longer viable as a host.

you’re referring to the LJ Strikethrough of 2007, which, being an ancient crone, I lived through, and since I was hanging out in the last vestiges of SGA and in bandom, I saw some of the fallout. this was before LJ was sold to the Russians (which is a whole ‘nother story), when it was still owned by Six Apart; in an effort to clean up LJ’s act, Six Apart decided to delete all accounts using tags like underage, incest, rape, etc.

this was supposed to get rid of actual child porn on the site, and I hope it did, but it also targeted fan communities. this was a problem for a couple reasons; for one thing, not every story tagged with these words is in favor of them; for another, these things happen to real people and these personal posts were also potentially in danger of being attacked; for the last one, look, I ain’t into this kind of fic but people write about what people write about, and if it’s fictional and not explicitly banned in the TOS (correct me if I’m wrong; I don’t think written content about this stuff was banned?) then it’s not cool for a content host to just start deleting communities without warning.

but that’s what happened! these deletions were also primarily targeting slash communities, which smacked of some serious homophobia since things were deleted that had nothing to do with any of this kind of content.

eventually someone found out it was this super conservative religious group who’d sent a list of journal names to Six Apart, and who if I remember correctly targeted slash fic on purpose, even after it became clear that the fic was, well, totally fictional. after a while, Six Apart admitted they’d made a mistake and started to reinstate journals, but all of fandom was pretty shaken up.

THEN Boldthrough happened, which was essentially the same debacle several months later, at which point fandom began its long slow migration from LJ to GJ, IJ, and eventually AO3, Twitter, and tumblr.

AO3 was opened in 2008 in response to several incidents, of which Strikethrough was a really intense one. remember, also, that back in 2008 the stigma surrounding fandom was significantly greater and more shameful than it is today, so finding hosts willing to archive fic was difficult unless someone had the dough to pay for server space – often not an option. this was also back when fanfic.net’s HTML restrictions were so great that users couldn’t use any special characters or bold or italicize anything, and it didn’t allow R-rated content, so it was clearly not ideal. in addition, although cease & desist letters were much less common than they were in the early 2000s and before, DMCA takedowns were still a phantom on the horizon.

LONG STORY SHORT, even though pedophilia is reprehensible and I personally cannot stomach fanfic that involves that kind of content, AO3 was founded specially as a safe space for fandom communities that could not find homes elsewhere. it requires warnings precisely for that reason, and if you find a story that is not properly warned, you can alert the admins and get the story labeled appropriately.

IDK, maybe it’s just because I am, again, ancient, but I was in and around fandom before homosexuality was legal in all 50 states. so were most of the people who started AO3. for most of my formative life, being gay was associated with pedophilia, and so was writing about gay characters. just – it’s a lot more complicated than you might expect, and there’s a reason many older fans who have been involved in several generations of fandom were so grateful to have AO3 as an option.

I don’t read, for example, Hydra Trash Party fics.  They squick me, and I generally feel they are pretty gross.  But writing noncon body-horror is not the same as saying “yeah, I totally want to go out and rape and torture people for years while brainwashing them!” or even “yeah, I wouldn’t do it myself, but it would be totally okay if someone did!”  Nobody is hurt by it, and nobody is going to be hurt by it.  So should I have the right to go, that is gross, you don’t get to write or read that?  No.

In the same way, writing about underage teens getting it on–sometimes with each other, sometimes with adults, sometimes consensually, sometimes not–is not the same as child pornography, nor does reading a fic about Hermione and Snape getting it on while she was his student mean someone thinks that would be a good and/or healthy thing in real life.

Fiction affects reality, but fiction is not reality.  And writing about something does not mean you want to do it in real life, or believe that anyone should.

Let’s take a closer look at that “Ao3 supports pedophilia!” shall we?

1) The only fics I have ever come across that had actual pedophilia (i.e. someone having sex with a child), it was clearly and explicitly abuse.  It was not meant to titillate or arouse.  It was meant to horrify.  It was seldom explicit.

2) There’s a lot more incest, but it is usually portrayed either as explicitly mutually consensual (i.e. Sam/Dean) or as abusive.

3) I’ve been in fandom for a decade and a half.  When people start getting upset at “omg pedophilia, think of the children!” the fics they are usually objecting to aren’t actually pedophilia.  Usually, it is teenagers having sex, especially queer sex.  And people don’t like that, and use pedophilia as an excuse to shame people for writing/reading sex they don’t like.

Let’s look closer at Strikethrough, shall we?  I hope that, if there were any communities of actual pedophiles on LJ, they got taken down, too.  But here are some of the communities that got taken down that were not in any way supporting pedophilia and/or rape and/or incest that got taken down:

1) at least one support community for survivors of sexual abuse.

2) a literary book discussion group that was reading Lolita.

3) lots of slash fanfic communities, for things like Draco/Harry fic set in their fourth year (when both boys would have been 15).

Basically, this very conservative “family values” group hated porn, and they hated queer stuff even more, and used “but think of the children, it’s pedophilia!” to pressure LJ to get rid of huge swathes of things they didn’t like.  And one time taking down the worst of it wasn’t good enough for them.  No, this was step one on a moral crusade.  If you acceded to their demands, all that did was whet their appetite, and soon they would be back with a new list of demands.  This is why the 2007 strikethrough was not an isolated event, but rather one of a series of events, nor was LJ the only website thus targeted.  It starts with anything that can get labelled “pedophilia” or “incest” because that’s low-hanging fruit.  But they use that to go after anything relating to queer teen sexuality.  Then anything with teen sexuality.  Then once the community is already divided and diminished, they go after anything with non-con.  Then whatever is next on their list.  It doesn’t stop until they’ve won the point and nothing but suitably “family-friendly” fics that match their purity test are allowed.

Which is why AO3 has no morality content in their terms of service.  You can’t break copyright beyond fair use (and AO3 has an expansive view of “fair use” and a team of lawyers on call).  You can’t use AO3 for commercial advertising.  And you can’t post ACTUAL child pornography, i.e. the things that are legally prohibited, i.e. actual photographs or videos of actual children (not teens) in sexually explicit positions–you know, the stuff that actually hurts kids.  Other than that?  It’s fair game.  You can post anything you want, and the archive will not judge.  There is no handle for the Moral Majority Family-Friendly Thought Police to latch onto, no cracks they can exploit to divide and conquer.

We’ve been down that road.  It doesn’t lead anywhere good.

Reblogging this for the excellent explanation of what exactly the moral crusaders did last time. They had an explicit agenda of anti-queerness, and they specifically targeted slash and femslash communities in particular, such that many ship communities became (or started as) deliberately members-only. You had to apply, and your personal blog had to look like a real person and a fan. You were vetted, a la 1990s private servers.

During this period, Dreamwidth was also targeted by attacking its payment processor. They had to get a new one. These “Warriors” (literally called themselves that!) were totally on board with destroying fandom as a side effect of destroying the parts of fandom they didn’t like.

If you’re carrying out harassment of people right now because they’re posting works with sexual elements you don’t agree with? (And it’s always sex, never non-sexual violence, how strange….) If you’re doing that, you’re also totally on board with destroying fandom as a side effect of destroying the parts of fandom you don’t like. Because your tactics are fandom-destroying, and so is your agenda.

reblogging because this is important: strikethru and boldthru and all the various “purges” that fandom went thru about 10 years ago: this had to do with OUTSIDERS deciding that fandom in general and fanfiction in specific were evil and needed to be destroyed; unless we were writing and shipping good vanilla M/F married people. AO3 and OTW are HUGE, because now we have an organization, with very smart women and a lot of lawyers, that have our back. Fannish history is important, people! It has not always been this way.

This is so, so important: there’s that other post about AO3 and fanfiction floating around, about our history. People decry violent video games but no one is trying to force companies out of business. But people can and do attack fanfiction: an activity primarily written by women for women, about fictional characters. And often about sex. We have to constantly defend ourselves, protect ourselves, support each other against charges like “paeodophilia”.

Throwing this in because I was also present: This was during the American Government’s attempts to pass censorship laws on the internet. As MOST of those domains had their serves in America, they were beholden to those censorship laws. A great deal of fanfiction.net was removed because they happened to lose a goddamn courtcase. I’ve been on the site since 2002. They may not have ‘officially’ allowed NC-17 rated content (what it used to be listed as in the filters), it never did a damn thing to remove it. Ever. They had it listed as a rating option during ‘New Story’ uploading after all. It was i nthe search filters. After they lost the courtcase however, they legally had to start doing things about the mature content reports they got. The admins and mods were not actively looking for fic to remove, they were just responding to reports they had already received. 

tl;dr – I know tumblr is all about black and white “you’re either all right or all wrong” thinking, but it’s important to understand what actually happened before going “ew ao3 was made to give pedophiles a safe place to post” because that is 110% not what happened.

This is why so, so many of the comparatively older fannish folks on tumblr like me are so vehemently against stuff like the anti movement and “all ships are valid UNLESS”. It smacks of censorship and content policing – and we’ve been there. We got our shit deleted and our accounts banned because someone else thought what we were reading or writing or talking about needed to just… not exist. No warning. Literally overnight. We just woke up and stuff was gone.

And yeah, the group was legit called Warriors for Innocence (or maybe of). I knew several people that were members of survivor/support groups that lost their groups – and their main support network – when Strikethrough happened (ten years ago holy shit).

You antis need to listen when us older fans tell you that the censorship you’re advocating for, when put into practice, is NOT a positive thing; it’s an extremely scary thing!

I can guarantee that you would be very, very upset if another event like LJ Strikethrough were to happen today because *you* are just as vulnerable as the rest of us! If you support the rights of marginalized groups of people, if you’re a slash or fem slash shipper, if you support gender identities that aren’t defined by biological sex, if you care about representation, if you support women, if you have any kind of kink, if you care about fandom in any capacity beyond its eradication, YOU DO NOT ACTUALLY WANT THE SORT OF CENSORSHIP YOU’RE ADVOCATING!!

I feel so old now. I’ve been through Dreamwidth but never made many friends there, and Livejournal for ten years until the strikethrough fiasco. I remember having posts about news stories I had linked deleted because they were about rape cases for example.

Before that there were newsgroups where a mod might just decide to block you or delete the whole newsgroup at any time without warning and you lost your community. There were years of Geocities and other host sites run by individual fans disappearing- because a parent was threatening to sue a fan writer because a minor had lied to access adult writing, or cease and desist letters from publishing companies that scared writers into removing works.

Just, you don’t have to like fanfiction or fanart. You can believe slash is homophobic or underage fic is pedophilia. You can be disgusted by vore or think 50 shades of gray fanfiction shouldn’t exist since it is fanfiction of a crappy Twilight fanfiction.

But once you start policing what is and isn’t acceptable? It starts to snowball and someone else might believe what you believe is wrong, isn’t conservative enough, and soon even fan works you like will be censored.

Ask some oldtimers from fandoms ten or twenty years ago and you’ll realize how you might be turning back the clock and how hard it was to stay connected with your favorite writers and artists…

P.S. Any old fogeys who used to be in “The Sentinel” fandom with me? Ooh, or “Forever Knight” 😛 Lucasfilm was always threatening “The Phantom Menace” fanfiction writers and you didn’t dare write anything using Anne Rice’s books. Ah, the good old days…

I don’t have a Pokemon in this fight- I literally give zero fucks about Melanie Martinez as a musician and I think her Sad Crazy Baby Girl persona is irritating. But… as an artist, I have beef with this. 

I’m a PTSD survivor myself. A lot of my work winds up being about stuff that has to do with my trauma, whether I mean it to or not. In my case, the trauma stuff is a lot less Grossly Controversial than child sexual assault, so no one really complains. But it’s still there, it’s still a factor in my work, and taking away my ability to write about it would cripple my recovery and my artistry. 

Most artists don’t talk about these things explicitly, because there’s a huge amount of shame and stigma that goes along with having mental illness and dealing with trauma and being a victim. But again: we still gotta work through it somehow, and art is one of the best and least harmful ways to do it. 

How do you know she’s not singing about rape, trauma, abuse, being a child victim, and mental illness because she’s had to deal with those things? How do you know she’s not using her ~crazy girl~ persona as a way to express her frustration with a society that treats her like a crazy person and both infantalizes and demonizes her for being a victim? 

Unless she comes out and says something? You can’t know. And if you mock any artist who talks about this stuff in a way you don’t approve of, the chances are, you’re mocking and harassing survivors for talking about their trauma. Is that really a thing you want to be doing?

Also, while I’m ranting – you do realize that most teenagers in the USA don’t have access to proper psychological care, right? You realize that the teenagers who need it most are likely to live in poverty or have abusive parents who restrict their access to care? You realize people without access to psych care need some kind of coping mechanism so they can hold themselves together? 

 I didn’t have access to proper psych care until I got into college. I’m autistic. If I didn’t hold onto the phrase “all the best people are mad” (and a couple other mantras- the Bene Gesserit Litany of Fear is a good one), I would probably not be here to shout at you right now. 

Was it toxic? Enh, probably; I could have done without the nerdy-autistic-people-are-superior-to-everyone-else thing I had going on. Did it keep me alive? Hell yes. Did it keep me from becoming even more of a self-loathing wreck? Hell yes.  

Until we live in a world where every teenager has access to good, quality mental healthcare? A world where abuse is unspeakably rare and adults don’t write off mentally ill teenagers? Kids and teenagers are going to need ‘toxic’ coping mechanisms, because treating ‘craziness’ like a good thing is better than feeling utterly broken and alone. 

TL:DR; You’re hurting the people you want to help. The social norms you want to enforce will make it harder for survivors to talk about their experiences and harder for people without mental health care to survive.

Some Native parents were forced to completely sign away their guardianship to principals of these “schools”, or face jail time. Others were visited by policemen, who forcibly seized their children from them. A few were undermined by “Indian Agents” on reservations, who withheld their rations on ration days. Some children never saw their parents again.

Boarding schools were built to “assimilate” the Native population into a white society, targeting their children. It had been assumed that conversion to Christianity and assimilation was “for the best interests” of Native and Indigenous people in Australia, the US, and Canada. The Native children were not allowed to practice skills relevant and appreciated to their cultures, such as carving. They were disallowed to speak in their native tongues, and were often physically, sexually, and psychologically tormented for doing so.

A five year old Native boy is raised by his family to know his hair as an extension of his soul, and that people only cut their hair if they experienced a loss of a loved one, a loss of a relationship, or a loss of oneself. As a stranger cuts off the little boy’s hair in order to better assimilate the child into the sex-based roles of a white male, the Native child is left quietly wondering who it is that has died, where his family went, and why the other children are being beaten for speaking to one another.

Only a small portion of each day was spent learning academically at these “schools”. Most of the day the children were exploited for their labor.

How the labor was divided was based upon the Native child’s sex.

Native girls were expected to do the domestic labor that was expected of white girls and women, such as cooking and cleaning, and Native boys were expected to perform manual labor, such as farm work, blacksmithing, and shoemaking.  The children would reach a point where they would be “phased out” of these boarding schools for a summer or year at a time and forced to perform labor for private white and wealthy families who did not want these jobs and duties themselves.

Many boarding schools and residential homes had an overwhelming death rate from Tuberculosis, which swept through these schools and homes. Tuberculosis kills it’s victim within ten days. Native children were forced to play and sleep alongside other Native children who had contracted tuberculosis so that they, too, would die. Boarding schools suffered a 50% or higher death rate because of this, effectively reducing the Native population in an attempt to eradicate them.

It wasn’t until 1978 in the US that Native parents won the rights to deny sending their children to boarding schools. This wasn’t that long ago. In 1978, my mother was 21 years old. 

In Australia, the residential homes lasted until 1984.

In Canada, the last residential home was closed in 1996. 

The Canadian Government is still fighting against making reparations to Native communities, and there are still monuments to people who instituted the residential school system. There are still monuments dedicated to people who offered bounties for scalps.

And despite being ordered multiple times by a Human Rights Tribunal to stop fucking around and stop discriminating against Native children, the Liberal government of Canada is still refusing to put any effort in to helping Native children and Native communities.

Our government is literally spending millions of our tax dollars fighting a legal battle because they don’t want to stop discriminating against children.

One of Trump’s personal friends and one of Americas largest Cocaine Kingpins is arrested in Ohio for drug trafficking, despite not having committed any crimes in New Jersey his case is inexplicably moved to New Jersey where the Judge for the case was Trump’s sister. Trump sends his sister a letter pleading that she give the man leniency calling him an important member of the community. He is then sentenced to 18 months in prison while his underlings are sentenced to 20 years. After he is released from prison Trump lets the drug kingpin stay in one of his multi-million dollar properties and gives the man a job overseeing Trump’s Helicopter fleet.

Trump was fined after it was proven he had committed a felony by lying to the Securities and Exchange Commission about company 

“They are lying because they are jealous of Trump.”

So instead of just briefly listing every single reason Trump is a racist, and have it all be brushed off as fake news. I’m going to go into specific detail about why Trump is a racist.

Now the clearest example of Trump’s racism is a quote from the President of Trump’s Casinos.

“I’ve got black accountants at Trump Castle and Trump Plaza. Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys that wear yarmulkes every day… . I think the guy is lazy. And it’s probably not his fault because laziness is a trait in blacks. It really is, I believe that. It’s not anything they can control.“

And then when asked about it later by Playboy in 1997 Trump says, *“The stuff O’Donnell wrote about me is probably true,”

Now this is just one of many quotes attributed to Trump you can look at ones from other sources like when U.N Goodwill Ambassador Don Cheadle claims Trump once asked family friend: *“Would you ever fuck a n*gger?”*

Or when a Sound Technician on The Apprentice says Trump repeatedly called him a “Fucking Monkey.

After six other former contestants of The Apprentice blasted Trump as a racist and sexist.

Only for two producers on the show to separately claim that there is an unaired video of Trump saying the N-Word.

And you could say they are just lying and risking their 20+ year reputation as veteran producers in the television industry in order to make up a claim that Trump is a racist except for the fact that the shows copyright holder and a close friend of Trump then goes on Twitter after they make that claim to threaten to “bankrupt” anyone through lawsuits who would leak unaired footage without President Trumps permission.(Not to deny that the footage exists, but say if you leak it you will be sued.

This is a lot like how when Trump’s wife accused him of rape and his lawyer didn’t say, “Trump didn’t rape her!” He said, “A husband cannot legally rape their spouse.”

But excluding less clear cut examples like when Trump fired a black contestant from the show for being over educated.) Or when Trump [literally wanted to make a season of the show where it was White People vs. Black People to prove once and for all which ones were better.

Ignoring all those, that’s still just 9 separate people from a single project Trump worked on saying he is racist.

The number gets a lot higher if you look at the whole picture. Like the former casino employees who claim all blacks were ordered to leave the casino floor in Atlantic City whenever Trump or wife arrived on the property.

Or the Beauty Pageant organizers who said Trump refuses to cast black models.

And these aren’t even getting into his actions from the campaign trail where at one rally he had 30 black college students and supporters ejected for no apparent reason.

Or when he had the only black GOP official at an Atlanta event that he helped organize, kicked out of the event for no reason.

Or when he picked a literal white supremacist as a delegate in California.

And this was after he refused to disavow support for The Klu Klux Klan and David Duke on live television, by lying and claiming he had never heard of the The Klu Klux Klan or David Duke so he won’t condemn groups he knows nothing about 

despite having previously mentioned David Duke by name over a decade earlier.

And despite the fact his father was arrested for attacking police at a Klan rally.

And we could go even further by looking at the time Trump’s son gave an interview with Holocaust denying radio show host who wants to bring back slavery. Only for Trump to give the radio host press credentials.

Just like he gave White Supremacists credentials and VIP seating at the GOP Convention.

Or just like how he decided to hire a spokesperson who goes after Obama by saying, “We need a pure breed like Trump in the white house and not a Negro.” 

But lets forget that all now because at this point the evidence is compounding to such a point that the idea that Trump isn’t a racist is becoming absurd. Any Trump supporters reading this can only think of so many bizarre excuses and justifications for the things I just described before they become angry and just declare it all fake news.

Let’s look at at a single set of examples. These ones being the ones that have legal precedent behind them.

In 1999 Trump was sued after he built a casino in black majority city and promised the mayor he would hire locals, and then refused to hire any blacks and opting to staff the casino with almost exclusively all white employees.

In 1997 Trump was sued for refusing to hire black models, among other charges.

In 1992 Trump was fined $200,000 by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement for not allowing blacks or women onto his casino floor while a personal friend of his who was a racist Mafia leader was gambling.

And we go could go into the specifics about each one of these cases and other cases like them that I didn’t mention but all of this is overshadowed by the first major story about Trump ever written. So let’s focus on that.

The first time Trump ever had his name in the newspaper was in 1973 and the newspaper headline was, “Landlord accused of anti-black bias”

In 1973 the Justice Department heard that Donald Trump was refusing to rent homes to black people. So they sent a black woman into one of the apartments and the woman offered the manager a 6 month down payment on rent. Only for him to tell her that there were no available apartments. Then 10 minutes later they sent a white woman in to ask to rent an apartment with no money and she was offered one on the spot.

They did the same thing in 39 different apartment buildings all owned by Trump and the same thing happen every time. When they asked the tenant managers why they wouldn’t rent homes to black people, every single one of them including two other employees working directly under Trump testified that when Donald took over the company from his father in 1970 he instructed them all to label every application into three categories

* A would be white people with good credit

* B would be white people with bad credit

* C would be non-whites.

Donald Trump told them to only consider applications from people in the A category.

Now you could always argue that for some reason the employees at every single one of the 39 Trump owned apartment were just racist and didn’t like black people on their own so they decided to break the law and potentially lose their jobs. And they just happen to come up with identical and oddly specific lies to implicate Trump as a racist and every single one of these employees were willing to commit perjury over these lies, and then for some reason two other Trump employees who didn’t even work at the apartments also for some reason came forward to falsely confirm their accounts.

And this argument might work if it was only this one time Trump had been accused of doing something racist. But the fact of the matter is this is just one of dozens of examples.

Let’s actually do the math on this:

* 41 employees who testified in 1973 that Trump refused to rent homes to black people,

* 36 employees who worked with the Urban League Investigators who testified in 1978 during another investigation and lawsuit about Trump refusing to hire black people.

* The black employees who said they were forced to leave the Casino floor when Trump and his wife arrived on the property

* One of Trumps assistants who warned Black Pageant Contestant Kamie Crawford in 2010 that, “Mr. Trump doesn’t like black people.”

* Trump’s ex-wife who says he is a racist.

* The over 50 Beauty Pageant contestant and Trump Modeling service employees who claimed Trump refused to hire black models.

* Jill Harth who claimed the same thing in 1997.

* The 20 black people from Gary Indiana denied jobs Trump promised them in their 1996 Lawsuit including the cities mayor.

* The 9 Apprentice crew members, (Not including the 30 Apprentice crew members who openly say Trump is a sexist.)

* The President of his Casino.

* The friend of the U.N Goodwill Ambassador.

That adds up to 164 people who personally know Trump that claimed was he a racist specifically against black people. (There is a whole separate list for accusations of racism involving Asians or Latinos or Native Americans.)

Now does the number seem a little low here? Well it should because **I’m only counting accusations of racism that occurred before Trump even ran for president.**

But you could always say that all of these people for some reason conspired over the period of 40 years to systematically accuse Trump of being a racist for no reason.

So let’s use Occam’s Razor. Who do we trust here? The U.N Goodwill Ambassadors and the Mayors and the Trump Employees and the Trump associates and his executives his ex wife and the Justice Department Investigators and all the 164 people?

Or Donald Trump a man who lied 400 times in his first 80 days a president. A man who literally lies about things he has said, that there is video of him saying,

a man who tells The New York Times he wants to impose a 45% tariff on Chinese goods. And then when he is confronted about this he claims he never said that and then 2 minutes later goes onto argue in favor of the 45% tariff.

A man who statistically speaking has lied more times then any other person who has ever ran for president period.

What’s more likely? That Trump is a racist or that hundreds of well respected people decided to come together and risk their careers for no determinable reason or gain to accuse a failed casino owner of disliking black people?

Tired of hearing folks say “but Trump is pro-LGBT!” everywhere on the internet? Me too. This is a non-exhaustive list detailing Trump to be an anti-LGBTQ candidate.

Trump signs a pledge to defend discrimination against LGBTQ people. This would permit discrimination even in medical emergencies.

Trump would repeal LGBT discrimination protections among federal contractors and remove federal protections for transgender students at public schools.

Trump states that he wants to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court with someone “in the mold” of Scalia.The late Supreme Court Justice Scalia has had a long history of homophobia, such as saying that disallowing sodomy laws is discrimination against the poor, poor oppressed heterosexuals.

Trump’s picks to fill the Supreme Court vacancy are quite scary, including one who has supported sodomy laws.

Trump vocally supported HB2. HB2 bars trans people who haven’t had their birth certificate amended from using the restroom of their gender and overrides all local ordinances that provide LGBT hiring and housing protections.

When asked if Trump would appoint justices to the supreme court specifically to overturn the Obergefel v. Hodges ruling Trump stated “I would strongly consider that, yes.”

Despite the multiple reports over the past four years stating that transgender inclusion would pose no harm to military effectivenesss and allow over 15,500 active servicemembers to perform theri duties more efficiently Trump derided the Pentagon for lifting the ban on transgender troops, describing it as “political correctness” and “ridiculous,” not unlike the rhetoric used to defend Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.

Instead of offering his condolences for the victims of tragedy or even just discussing it as it pertains to policy like other candidates Trump bragged about supposedly being right in predicting the Pulse nightclub shooting.

Instead of visiting Orlando to show solidarity to the LGBTQ community in the wake of the Pulse shooting Trump visited Orlando a month later to speak at an extremely anti-LGBTQ rally.

At the Republican National Convention Trump stated in allusion to Orlando that he would protect LGBTQ citizens from “a hateful foreign ideology.” Not only does this dishonestly characterize the motivation of the Orlando shooting but it specifically avoids condemning hateful domestic ideologies, ie that of his Republican colleagues.

Speaking of hateful domestic ideologies, the Log Cabin Republicans described the 2016 republican platform as the most anti-LGBT platform in the history of the party. It includes an amendment to ban same-sex marriage and legal protection of anti-LGBT conversion torture. An openly gay member of the RNC platform committee was driven to the point of tears by the party’s adamant refusal to let Obergefel v. Hodges lay as it is.

Trump chose somebody who believes that you can forcibly starve and electrocute children into not being gay as his runningmate.

Trump’s top domestic policy advisor says that being gay is a lifestyle choice that can be changed.

Trump’s early cabinet picks are all anti-LGBTQ folks.
