Carbon dioxide has only one atom more than carbon monoxide just in case you think breathing is harmless

These are kind of silly arguments.  Adderall really is similar to meth, in both composition and effect.  A lot of posts like “these chemicals look similar, they must be the same” are bullshit, but in this case they’re not far off.  They’re both amphetamines.

The most important difference between Adderall and meth isn’t chemical, but how they’re taken.  If you took controlled amounts of slow-release methamphetamine under medical supervision, it would be a safe and effective treatment for ADHD.  In fact, it is used that way.  Conversely, if you smoked unrestricted amounts of crudely homemade Adderall all day long, it would be quite likely to ruin your life.

Honestly, this is the case for most drugs of abuse.  Heroin is given as a painkiller in some countries under the name diamorphineCocaine is used as an anesthetic for ENT procedures.  What makes these chemicals dangerous is not their inherent composition but their effects when abused.  Adderall, like many other drugs, has a potential for abuse but also a potential to do good, and the difference between the two uses is more about the user and their support system than the chemistry.

From the Liberals new marijuana law, they’re creating new criminal offences.

If you give or sell cannabis to youth or use youth to break a cannabis related offence you could face 14 years in prison. The same 14 year maximum penalty will apply to bringing marijuana across international borders.

An identical situation of selling tobacco to a minor would only have someone in jail for a year at most with the least being a 2000 dollar fine, and in many provinces it’s only a fineable offence (more info here ). When it comes to alcohol the maximum sentence is also one year and the least being a 2000 dollar fine. And most of these fines go towards the establishment that employs the person responsible. What situation makes 14 years a resonable threat?

Since Cannabis will be legal this week in Canada (October 17th), just a reminder that the drug will not be completely legal in all situations, and some of these situations could result in hefty jail time.

Water is one oxygen atom away from being hydrogen peroxide. Take a wild guess at which one will kill you if you drink it…

Regular water is also only four neutrons away from being radioactive

“If we add meth to it, it turns into meth!” No shit Sherlock, that’s why we don’t add any meth to it!

…………

Look, guys, yes making minor changes to a molecule can massively alter its behaviour. This isnt one of those cases.

Methamphetamine and dextroamphetamine actually are very similar in how they behave and how they effect people, which is why the FDA allows methamphetamine for ADHD treatment and why people generally cant tell the difference between the two. See also: the similar effects of oxycontin, heroin, and morphine.

The operative part of methamphetamine is “amphetamine”; just because the name has been shortened to “meth” in common parlance doesnt mean getting rid of the methyl group radically changes the drug.

Overall chemical structure isnt an absolute determinate of behaviour, but it actually is usefully predictive, which is the whole point of organizing organic structures into various categories: by and large, chemicals with similar structure really do have similar behaviour.

I knew they were similar but i thought meth was stronger/ more addictive or something. Why is crystal meth the one that’s popular as a recreational drug and regular amphetamine is the one that’s usually used medicinally?

Meth is somewhat stronger and more addictive; the extra methyl group lets the body take it up faster. Its a difference of degrees, though; careful use of either wont hurt you, they can both be used to treat similar conditions, and abuse of both will hurt you in similar ways. One of the major reasons adderall is so tightly controlled is because it keeps getting sold to the drug market as a meth substitute.

I’m not saying they’re identical, I’m saying minor structural differences aren’t enough to safely say “well, these are clearly different drugs, we dont have to worry.” If your friend is buying adderall from a dealer for exam time, she’s probably ok. If she’s buying adderall constantly, you should probably respond to that as if she were regularly taking meth. They’re not wildly different, and they present similar benefits and risks.

And the argument from minor structural differences is a fantastistically bad argument in organic chemistry, a field largely predicated on organizing itself around structural similarity.

This is why if you DON’T have ADD/ADHD you absolutely should not take adderall. If you do it helps you slow the fuck down but if you DON’T it’s basically speed.

Please reblog if you know anyone who might take party drugs.

this is so important

Also important information: A cop cannot arrest you for something you already took. You can tell a cop to his face that you just injected black tar heroin in your veins and as long as you don’t currently have any on you (including things like syringes or residue in a pipe), there’s fuck all he can do about it.

I take police reports for a living. The number of people who will happily tell someone “Well officer, this fight started because I smoked crack cocaine earlier,” is astounding and also not at all illegal. The criminal charge is for Possession of a Controlled Substance. If you don’t possess any at the time, there’s no crime. The only thing you can get dinged for is if you’re actively on a drug and driving, in which case – DUI.

Please, please, please tell EMTs what you took. They’re not going to rat you out to the cops and even if they did, you will still be okay.

Spreading the word, being honest with paramedics and doctors can save your life

Hi!! ok so the above information is slightly off. In certain states your body=a container, and therefore you can 100000000% be charged for something in your body.

For example, if someone under 21 is found with alcohol in their blood, since their body is a container in these states they can and will be given an mip.

Know your state laws!! please!!!
