Man we really fucked over Native Americans. Imagine if Germany did TEN Holocausts and then hundreds of years later the Jews were STILL living in the work camps the Germans shuttled them to, with no money and a food shortage. Fucked up.
don’t make this comparison. jews are not a rhetorical tool. we are real people who really died.
the genocides of Indigenous people have been egregiously ignored. this is not the way to fix that.

know your history
There was also the Eastern subspecies, which got wiped out by 1830 or so. Some unfortunately predictable patterns there.
I just want people to know….
That the aztecs never thought that the Spanish conquerers were gods, there are no registries of any prehispanic gods with blond hair, pale skin or any european trait, the only reason why they were well received was because Moctezuma distrusted them from the beggining and wanted them gone as soon as possible and he thought that by treating them well he would avoid stirring conflict.
The “indigenous people revered them as gods” was Spanish propaganda, so congratulations centuries after people are still falling for it.
Also the only reason they won, besides the diseases they brought with them, was because they deceived the other indigenous tribes under the rule of the Aztec empire into thinking that they would give them their freedom.
Spoiler alert: they lied.
Learning the actual history of the Spanish invasions was wild because like the Aztecs and other Mesoamerican cities/states treated these strangers with, you know, diplomacy and decency and what-not.
And then Cortez and his crew of cutthroats backstabbed their hosts and initiated the war with the Aztecs by slaughtering unarmed people during a religious ceremony. It’s no wonder the lies are what got propagated the most: even by 15th century European warfare standards that’s pretty fucking awful.

On This Day: In 1850 several hundred Lake Superior Ojibwe Chippewa began the journey to Sandy Lake, Minnesota to receive their fall annuity payments based on their recently signed treaty. Officials of the Zachary Taylor Administration and Minnesota Territory sought to relocate several bands of the tribe to areas west of the Mississippi River, and by changing the location for fall annuity payments, the officials intended the Chippewa to stay there for the winter and lower their resistance to relocation. Due to delayed and inadequate payments of annuities and lack of promised supplies, about 400 Ojibwe died of disease, starvation, and freezing. (x)

what even is this meme saying
It’s trying to say tribal conflicts exterminated Native Americans before white people got the chance, apparently.
well thats fucking stupid.
It’s pointing out the hypocracy people have when they don’t acknowledge that Native Americans were not peaceful and were barbaric. Conquest has always existed before Europeans practiced it. It puts things in perspective.
Because Native Americans killed each other by the millions. Got it.
this argument is so bad
They were constantly killing each other and heavily modified their landscape. This isn’t even saying it’s okay to conquer a group of people lol. All it’s saying is its bad to kill people no matter who’s doing it and to who. There is no argument.
listen you could just say “im a white supremacist” to make your argument much shorter
of course his name is fucking andrew
i swear libertarian white males have names that sound like they came from a middle class white surburban family name catalog
Native Americans (which is a ridiculously blanket term, in this context, for a group if societies and ethnic groups that spanned two continents and many islands) did in fact war with each other, build cities, and shape their environment (including leading to eco-related population collapses), and the reason most people don’t know about this is because eurocentric history ignores the history of native societies for this patronizing “they were all noble savages who stupidly stumbled around naked in the forest in childlike wonder until whitey taught them Civilization™” bullshit
However
The European contact, and the ensuing plagues, enslavement and centuries of genocide, were ghastly on a uniquely wide and horrifying scale, and it is just as insulting, patronizing, and racist to dismiss it as “hehe everybody.did it sweaty 🙂 stop complaining about the oil all over your reservation 🙂 🙂 🙂 be grateful to white ppl 🙂 🙂 genocide is ok cuz everyone diz it it’s just nature so you can’t complain 🙂 🙂 🙂 :^)” as op is doing. Genocides and atrocities were committed, are still being committed, and we as a society need to stop that and confront it, and make amends as best we can
Oh and making it a red circle is a very classy and not at all racist touch
The Bizarre World of Genocide Denial, article by Marko Attila Hoare, published in the book Bosnia and Herzegovina; Genocide, Justice and Denial.

UNITED NATIONS Headquarters, NEW YORK City
JULY 11, 2007
“Što Te Nema?” is a public monument created as a response to Europe’s worst atrocity since World War II – the systematic killing of 8,372 Muslim men and boys in the UN-protected safe area of Srebrenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina in July of 1995.
Conceived as a participatory nomadic monument, “Što Te Nema?” travels to a new location annually, enabling different communities to commemorate the Srebrenica Genocide collectively and in a public space on its anniversary.
The monument consists of a growing collection of fildžani, small porcelain coffee cups, continuously collected and donated by Bosnian families from all over the world. The total number of fildžani roughly corresponds to the growing number of body remains found, identified, and buried to date.
Every July 11th, the public is invited to participate in the making of the monument by placing the collected cups on the ground and filling them with Bosnian coffee prepared on site throughout the day.
This has been posted about before, here and here, but I wanted to post this particular photograph because they made the shape of Bosnia.
Uncontacted Tribe Allegedly Massacred By Gold Miners In Brazil
At least 10 members of an uncontacted tribe in Brazil’s Amazon Basin were allegedly killed last month by illegal gold miners, according to Survival International.
The organization, which advocates for indigenous rights, said the massacre included women and children and may have wiped out one-fifth of the tribe.
Members of the tribe were gathering eggs along a river in the Javari Valley, in the country’s remote west, when they came across the miners, The New York Times reported. The miners later boasted about the slaughter at a bar in the nearest town and showed off a hand-carved paddle they claimed to have stolen as a trophy.
“It was crude bar talk,” Leila Silvia Burger Sotto-Maior, Funai’s coordinator for uncontacted and recently contacted tribes, told the Times. “They even bragged about cutting up the bodies and throwing them in the river.”
Funai is Brazil’s agency for indigenous affairs, and its budget was recently cut under Brazilian President Michel Temer. Survival International described Temer’s government as “fiercely anti-Indian, and has close ties to the country’s powerful and anti-indigenous agribusiness lobby.”
Uncontacted Tribe Allegedly Massacred By Gold Miners In Brazil
Like something key to understanding politics is that in every genocide that has ever occurred, some portion of the victims take up arms and try to fight back and they are always denounced by the killers as the original cause of the violence. Under current language, they’re called “terrorists” but different words have been used. Bandits and partisans (rebels) are popular ones.
The Rohingya in Myanmar are being slaughtered and a few have tried to fight back by attacking police stations. They are being called terrorists and are blamed by the Myanma government as being the cause of the violence in the first place.
