Fears of ‘riots in the streets’ as anger over Grenfell Tower tragedy rises
Anger over the Grenfell Tower disaster could lead to riots on the streets, it has been claimed.
The horrific fire, which has left at least 30 people dead, has left the local community angry and frustrated.
Politicians including Sadiq Khan have been heckled at the scene and locals even shouted “where are you going?” as the Queen and Prince William left the site today.
And hundreds of people are expected to attend a ‘justice’ rally in central London tonight.
Now, a local councillor has warned there could be “unrest in the streets” if council chiefs don’t step in.
Eartha Pond said that if local authority doesn’t act quickly, civil unrest could erupt.
Ms Pond, who works as an assistant vice principle in Brent and a councillor at nearby Queens Park Community Council, said: “If the council don’t step up to the plate there will be unrest in the streets; it’s that serious.
“People are so angry and frustrated. No-one from the council has been down here.
“It’s an appalling lack of response.”
More than 1,800 people are said to be planning to attend a rally in Westminster tonight to demand ‘justice’ for Grenfell victims.
A Facebook event, ‘Justice for Grenfell!’, has been listed as taking place at 6pm outside the Department for Communities and Local Government.
Reporting what everyone’s thinking. Don’t see how people’s anger at not knowing what has happened to their friends and family and being left without a home can be contained for much longer.

Squatters turn oligarch’s empty London property into homeless shelter
There must be loads of properties like this in Kensington. 2,000 homes have been destroyed in the Grenfell fire – if ever there was a need to repossess the idle luxury flats of speculators it’s now.
The house is one of four purchased by Goncharenko over a three-year period, including Hanover Lodge, in Regent’s Park, for which he paid £120m – making it one of the UK’s most expensive homes.

Experts warned government against cladding material used on Grenfell
“The people who died and lost their homes, this happened to them because they are poor.”
For any who don’t know: This was a tower block that had ‘fire resistant cladding’ that was supposed to restrict a fire to 2-3 apartments. The whole building went up – there were no sprinklers, the firefighters told everyone to stay put, and some police sources say the death count is around 150.
This is in a area of London that contains both rich and poor people. These blocks are council housing- the poorest people live there. In one of the Channel 4 interviews these apartments were described as ‘pigeon holes’.
Debris was raining down on people, and the police had to make a corridor of riot shields so that the firefighters could get in and out.
A woman on the 9th floor (10th floor to Americans) threw her baby out the window as she new she wouldn’t get out. The baby was caught.
Many people called family that night. Most people interviewed describe hearing the screaming in the background. A Syrian Refugee in that building had to film a video asking whoever found it to tell his family he loved them.
The Prime Minister hasn’t made contact with the people, but the community has joined together, and the local mosque and church has been providing shelter and food. People have donated food, money, clothes along with many other things to aid the survivors who got out, either by firefighters helping them after realising they couldn’t control the fire, or via the roof.
All because some bastards in an office thought that listening to the people and fellow council members concerns weren’t worth the extra money to make these buildings safe.
Muslims Awake To Begin Their Ramadan Fast Were ‘A Lifeline’ In Grenfell Tower Blaze
clickbaitmullah: Muslims who were awake because they were beginning their Ramadan fast “saved people’s lives” when a deadly blaze broke out at a west London tower block, HuffPost UK has been told.
At least 50 people have been taken to five hospitals for treatment as hundreds of residents in the 27-storey, 120 flat, Grenfell Tower in north Kensington have been evacuated from their flats in the building that caught fire just after 1.15am.
A local woman told HuffPost UK: “Muslim boys saved people’s lives. They ran around knocking on people’s doors. Thank God for Ramadan”
Khalid Suleman Ahmed, 20, recently moved to Grenfell Tower with his auntie and lives on the eighth floor.
He said he would not normally have been up in the middle of the night but had stayed up during Ramadan for Suhur, the meal before Muslims begin fasting again during daylight hours.
However, upon realising there was a fire he immediately began banging on his neighbours’ doors to wake them.
He told HuffPost UK: “No fire alarms went off and there were no warning. I was playing PlayStation waiting to eat suhuur (beginning of fast meal) then smelt smoke. I got up and looked out of my window and saw the seventh floor smoking.
“I woke my auntie up, then got clothes on and started knocking on neighbours’ doors. Every house opened except two – I saw the other guy later on so only 1 family unaccounted for. My next door neighbour was fast asleep.
“The whole corridor went black with thick smoke. I didn’t think it was serious at all me and my auntie thought it was an isolated incident but we’d just evacuate just to be safe. When we went out and were taken by the firemen to a safer place then we saw that it still hadn’t reached our house – 20 minutes or so later our house was gone. The firefighters were very quick. They immediately started work.
“People were calm walking out but when they realised loved ones were missing or unaccounted then they started to panic. Once we were outside it started to spread more.
He added: “I would be up this late on a Friday night possibly but never a random midweek night unless it was Ramadan. There are a lot of Muslims living there and people choose up to stay up and wait so it was certainly a factor for me and others. It probably did save lives.”
A witness also told Sky News that Muslims who were awake had been a “lifeline”.
i can’t imagine how many lives he saved, how many families are intact and together, because of his actions.
And the Muslim community’s generosity has been unparalleled. The Al-Manaar Mosque (244 Acklam Road , London W10 5YG) is accepting donations, which it’s distributing directly to families evacuated from the building: clothes, toiletries, etc, as well as cooking free meals people evacuated from Grenfell. If you do have clothes, food, or any basic amenities you can spare, you can drop it off there, or:

- St. Clement’s Church, 95 Sirdar Road, W11 4EQ

people are fucking dying. i’ve never been so furious
if you haven’t seen it, the residents’ Grenfell Action Group wrote a blog article last year addressing fire risk in the buiding and “reached the conclusion that only an incident that results in serious loss of life of KCTMO [the Landlord] residents will allow the external scrutiny to occur that will shine a light on the practices that characterise the malign governance of this non-functioning organisation.“ [x]
