hey, in the wake of Squirrel Hill please remember that this isn’t just about gun control, but about antisemitism as well. gun control is important, but it’s not the reason this tragedy has happened. antisemitism has been on the rise in the united states for years, and no amount of gun control debate will stop that. take an active part in combating antisemitism when you see it, both in yourself and in others. keep an eye open, please, to prevent this from ever happening again
My mother called me to say “so, it’s starting again”.
My partner has expressed the fear that no one wants us to remain alive.
If you use this to talk about gun control and don’t address the fact that it is a manifestation of hatred and racism being spurred by open violent racists, then you are missing the point.
Yup. Trump made it a convo about gun control lest he have to denounce white supremacy, but that’s not what this is about. My synagogue has security officers; they are not armed. I’ve been to synagogues that did have armed security. We all know that it wouldn’t have mattered; people would still be dead, by people who want to kill Jews.
Don’t let Trump derail the conversation. Almost two years ago I started making plans and preparatory arrangements to get my six nieces and nephews – all of whom have one Jewish parent, and three of whom might not be allowed to emigrate to Israel because of patrimony bullshit – out of the country if necessary. That is the sort of conversation (white goyische) people need to be paying attention to.
Eight Jews Dead in an Antisemitic Hate Crime, and Trump is Already Victim Blaming
This morning, a white man named Robert Bowers entered Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue, shouted “all jews must die,” and shot 14 people. At least 8 so far are dead.
When asked if this reflected on gun control, the president of the united states said, “If they had protection inside, the results would have been far better…if they had some kind of a protection inside the temple, maybe it could have been a very much different situation. They didn’t — he was able to do things that unfortunately he shouldn’t have been able to do.”
This is victim blaming. He is saying that because these congregants had chosen not to defile a house of g-d with instruments of death, they were shot.
When building the Temple in Jerusalem, it’s said, g-d required the stones not be cut with metal tools, as such things could be used to kill people. We believe that instruments of death have no place in the praising of g-d. We should not be required to sacrifice this value in order to stay alive.
May their memories be a blessing.
I appreciate that people are liking this, but please reblog as well
“Carothers was convicted of 2nd-degree murder in 1999 and was charged with 2nd degree murder again in 2011 before pleading guilty to a lower charge, the Daily News Journal reported.” –
In the video, Sahib Singh Natt, in his 70s, attempted to walk around the two men after being confronted during his daily walk, but they followed him. After being kicked and knocked to the ground, Natt got up to defend himself, at which point he was kicked down again. After his attackers began to leave, one returned to kick Natt several more times while he was still on the ground.
“He was in such a shock,” said relative Parminder Singh Sahi, according to FOX40. “He was not able to tell us exactly what happened so he would tell us one thing and then he will mumble and say something else.” An epileptic seizure seven years ago has impaired Natt’s ability to communicate with others.
On this day, 4 June 1976 an 18 year-old Sikh schoolboy, Gurdip Singh Chaggarwas, was fatally stabbed in a racist attack outside the Dominion theatre in Southall, London. When one passerby asked a police officer who had been killed, he responded “just an Asian”. His murder triggered riots in the area, and prompted local Asian and black youths to form the Southall Youth Movement, which took the fight to racists in the streets. It is our duty as feminists to protect and respect women in Hijabs
Now. More. Than. Ever.
Question: if I see someone pull off a Hijab, what should I do? I know there are reasons they are worn so I want to if i should stand in between them and who did this, should i protect them from view somehow, or something else? This has been happening a lot so I feel it’s something everyone needs to know.
Good question! I cannot correctly and effectively answer, as I am a white, non-Muslim person; however, I will reblog in case any of my followers can answer.
I asked my Hijabi friend, so here’s one Hijabi’s answer:
“my opinion is, definitely try cover them or give them something to cover themselves with. And perhaps shoo off the person, without putting oneself in danger! God forbid, if that happened to me, I would like someone to come and comfort me and give me something to cover my hair with and then help me report it to the cops
“
(Followers, if any of you are hijabi and would like to expand on this answer or offer alternatives, please do.)
If u see it happen to 1 of us, pls cover our head + hair with a coat or shawl or any piece of cloth, while hugging us in comfort. Please don’t get hurt by lashing out @ the perpetrators in any way, coz if they dare to do that, they’re probably too far gone in their own hatred to listen to any reason. Much love + Thank You to anyone who supports us.
yes !! everything said here is important af. if you see someone pull off a girl’s hijab immediately cover her hair and provide comfort. don’t talk to the perpetrator but try to get the woman out of there if you can. maybe if you have a scarf on you at the time give it to her so she can wear it until she’s alone and can replace her hijab. please please protect muslim girls because we already had it hard before donald trump became president and now its gonna be worse with people going around thinking their violence and cruelty is justified
for my other white ppl who might have a hard time, it’s my understanding that a hijab is like a major item of clothing, not an accessory like a hat or a scarf. so think abt it more like if someone just ripped someone’s shirt or skirt off. u don’t want to be left there exposed or have to walk home without it.
everyone, even outside America needs to protect our Muslim sisters in these times.
as a man, what would be the best thing to do? should i turn my head and avoid looking at their hair? can i still offer a jacket or something similar?
^I’m hoping someone has an answer islamaphpbia is on the rise in my town and I want to be a good male non Muslim ally
For men, yes please, we would prefer it if you avoided looking at our hair, and if we don’t have something to substitute as a hijab at that moment, anything you could lend us, a jacket, etc, would be very appreciated.
Also, since most girls avoid physical contact with men they’re not related to, please do not hug them, but rather shoo the offender away if you can, or at least escort the girl to a safe place. You can still offer words of encouragement and support. Furthermore, understand that the victim may not be very welcoming towards you because she’ll obviously be shaken, and won’t know where you are coming from. If that’s the case, please still give her something to cover herself (hijab is very important, think of it as someone ripping your shirt off) and stand some distance away until you are sure she’s in safe hands.
Thank you so much for your support, we really appreciate it, god bless all of you.
In the horrible climate we’re currently in, please take note of this.
A First Nations woman who was hit by a trailer hitch, thrown from a passing car in Thunder Bay, Ont., last January, has died.
Barbara Kentner, 34, required surgery after being hit in the abdomen by the trailer hitch on Jan. 29. She was released from hospital in time to take part in a walk in her honour on Feb. 5, but later returned to medical care.
Her sister, Melissa Kentner told CBC News in March that Barbara would not recover from her injuries. Melissa posted on Facebook early Tuesday that Barbara had died. She and other family members confirmed the death with CBC News.
The passenger in the car yelled, “Oh, I got one,” after throwing the hitch at the sisters who were walking on McKenzie Street between Dease and Cameron streets, Melissa Kentner told CBC News in February.
The internal damage when Kentner was hit in the kidneys by the hitch was irreparable and proved fatal, her sister said.
An 18-year-old man was charged with aggravated assault relating to the incident. Thunder Bay police told CBC News they are looking into whether the charges will be changed, in light of Kentner’s death.
Barbara was a member of Waabigon Saaga’igan Anishinaabeg (Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation). She had a beautiful anishinaabe daughter who is 16 years old. Her name is Serena. They both endured violence and racism. Barbara was murdered. No other word can soften what happened to her. I hope her journey to the spirit world is safe. Justice for Barbara. No more stolen sisters.

a jewish kid was murdered by a nazi last week in california and almost none of the articles about it are mentioning that he was jewish or that his murderer was a nazi
he was taken into the woods by someone he thought was a friend and killed. hits pretty close to home bc multiple relatives of mine, including my great-great-grandfather, were taken into the woods by their own neighbors and killed during the holocaust
