Don’t let anyone forget the fact that the President of the United States skipped out on visiting military graves for Armistice Day’s 100th anniversary.
Because of rain.
He has golfed in the rain. He was inaugurated in the rain. Other leaders–and his own subordinates–made it out there in the rain.
President Trump, though? The man who loves our troops and our country? Yeah, it’s weird that he didn’t go to the ceremony and chose to stay in his hotel room. He left our country on Veteran’s Day weekend to visit Paris for the reunion, but could not be bothered to face a little rain in order to pay his respects to the troops.
He forgets the names of the fallen. He cuts funding for veteran welfare programs. He sends our soldiers to the border for needless exercises in intimidation. Then he claims that others are weak on the military and don’t respect our troops?
What a joke.
Oh, and when I say “don’t let them forget”, I mean “every time some alt-right nutjob comes at you, hit them with that question”.
Also, if you need to cite facts:
An hour. This isn’t a “scheduling thing”, this is something that should have been planned. At the least, the President doesn’t have staff who know how to plan a trip.
The thing is, this drags military respect into the conflict.
If you want bonus points, remind them of the time Hillary got pneumonia from attending a 9/11 memorial.
Never trust someone who fetishizes the military in one breath and spits on veterans in the next; just saying.
Here’s the thing. It’s good to remind them, because their hypocrisy needs to be out in the open, but none of them care. Even most conservatives don’t care. Trump isn’t going to ever live up to his office and because he’s Their Guy they aren’t going to ever agree with that until after he loses an election and like after Dubya left office they’ll all pretend they weren’t ever in his corner. They’re not for him as much as they are against “the other team,” and he’s just the man they think is capable of scoring right now.
They care about Hillary fainting because it overlaps with their biases that she’s weak as a woman. They care what Obama wore because it overlapped with their biases about black stereotypes.
When they talk about disrespect, they aren’t talking about a thing that rich white conservative men can ever do, because it’s never been about someone’s actions disrespecting anything. It’s been about people in power not being who they want to see there, and these assholes thinking that those leaders’ very existence disrespected the country.
Donald Trump sending thousands of troops to the border isn’t just ridiculous, it’s horrifying. What exactly does he plan to do with all those troops? He just recently said he is prepared to gun down people who throw rocks… it gives you a clue doesn’t it?
I’m genuinely worried that these people are going to get hurt, I don’t trust Donald Trump and I’m worried as to why we are comfortable with sending thousands of troops to greet families and children with guns… horrifying.
it’s also a massive breach in military deployment protocol, specifically the Posse Comitatus act and Article 10 of the United States Code. Donald Trump is breaking the fucking law
HE’S GONNA HAVE TROOPS GUN DOWN & MURDER WOMEN & CHILDREN.
I’m hoping that none of them get an itchy trigger finger as another commenter pointed out, but there is no other reason for them to be there and he’s talking about shooting people who throw rocks and it just sounds like an excuse to open fire. Let’s pray that nothing violent takes place against those people.
And they will all say “I was just following orders”
We can afford all these troops at the border but not 15 dollars minimum wage, free college, or Medicare for all.
I live on the Border. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and very nice overall.
He’s just afraid of brown people. Even women and children.
and we still have sent no aid to Puerto Rico, alright
I saw someone in the tags say this is fearmongering but there’s fearmongering, and then there’s actual fear. All of the comments on this post are reactions of genuine, sincere concern for the people at the border. Nobody is trying to fearmonger.
WE ARE ACTUALLY AFRAID.
Just to provide some context here since I haven’t seen a single soul talk about the Caravan online, I only know about it due to the controversy caused by several local Spanish news stations that decided to air coverage despite many stations in Mexico forbidding it;
There are currently thousands of people migrating in a Caravan up to the Mexican border. They are escaping poverty, and violence amongst other things from their home countries of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. They’re hoping to find a better life or apply for Asylum.
They’ve been walking for nearly a full month now having started October 12th of this year (2018 time stamp for anyone seeing this in the future.)
[Pictured above is the Caravan as it reached the Suchiate river at the border between Guatemala and Mexico]
[Pictured above is the first wave of the Caravan reaching the Tijuana border -not apart of the massive wave that was seen at the river.]
[Pictured above are several caravan men who decided to jump into the river when the crowds on the bridge got too dense when it was decided that only Women and Children could pass, most were fathers, brothers, and sons who didn’t wish to be separated. Many mothers with small children were also lowered down into the rafts to avoid the crowd that was stuck on the bridge for 24+ hours.]
The Donald Trump political campaign put out an ad that was as dehumanizing as you could imagine towards the immigrants, who again, at this point are largely unarmed women and children who are trying to escape the violence in their home countries.
Donald Trump has deployed 1,000 troops to the border in anticipation for the Caravans arrival. Promising to more than double the number to about 5,000 troops lasting until about December 15th, 2018.
[Pictured above are children waiting in line for their turn on playground equipment.]
[Pictured above is what sleep and rest has typically looked like for them, many only having a backpack or so left of their personal belongings to take with them.]
[Pictured above is man holding up a sign that reads, “Thank-you Mexico for opening up your hearts.” After the bridge and border were opened.]
These are the faces of the people Donald Trump is sending thousands of troops over to shoot down because he sees them as a threat.
Looks like zinke’s days are numbered. This story tells us that trump is taking the sort of steps he usually takes when he dumps someone in his administration. In a post a couple of days ago about this topic, I note that, while this may be good news to be a rogue and scoundrel and liar removed, the person most likely to replace him will probably make zinke look like an angel.
Excerpt from this Washington Post story:
The White House is growing increasingly concerned about allegations of misconduct against Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, according to two senior administration officials, and President Trump has asked aides for more information about a Montana land deal under scrutiny by the Justice Department.
Trump told his aides that he is afraid Zinke has broken rules while serving as the interior secretary and is concerned about the Justice Department referral, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter. But the president has not indicated whether he will fire the former Navy SEAL and congressman and has asked for more information, the officials said.
This week, Interior’s Office of Inspector General referred the inquiry — one of several probes into the secretary’s conduct — to the Justice Department to determine whether a criminal investigation is warranted. That referral concerns Zinke’s involvement in a Whitefish, Mont., land development deal backed by David J. Lesar, chairman of the oil services firm Halliburton.
No decision about Zinke’s tenure has been made, the officials said. But the shift within the West Wing highlights the extent to which the interior secretary’s standing has slipped in recent months.
White House officials’ trust in 57-year-old Zinke — a vocal proponent of the president’s push to expand coal, oil and gas production in the United States — began eroding at the start of the year, after he traveled to Florida to meet with Gov. Rick Scott ® and announced that he would exempt the state from the administration’s new plan to allow drilling off the state’s coasts. The move, which was not coordinated with the West Wing’s political shop, exposed the five-year leasing plan to legal challenges and sparked pushback from governors in other states.
But administration officials’ concerns have intensified as allegations have grown against Zinke, who has denied wrongdoing. In October, Interior’s watchdog unit issued a report finding that Zinke’s travel practices and efforts to designate his wife as a department volunteer had raised red flags among Interior ethics officials.
The former Rabbi of Tree of Life went on MSNBC just last night to implore Trump not to come.
He did not listen, just like he never does.
The reason that the mayor of Pittsburgh asked him not to come is because the first three funerals were held today, and the city did not have enough public resources (police) to both deal with the president and protect the funerals at the same time.
The president wants to strip citizenship from millions of Americans, announces it in advance of election in what will probably be a successful bid to get votes for his party. Horrifying.
What surprises me most about Trump’s claim to nationalism isn’t that he claimed it all. Anyone exposed to the reality of US History knows every sitting president has been a nationalist. What gets me is that he didn’t couch it in the vague or misleading language most American politicians are trained to perform. The elites he fraternizes with are critiquing him for that reason, not because they actually oppose the core ethos of the country. He said it plainly and they aren’t supposed to do that. Lul.
