I mean this is literally a publish FBI statistic but ok…we just had an active shooter training. And they, a bunch of white men in the military and police force, told us to our faces that white men make up over 93% of the active shooter cases in this country, ever. Not even just recently. Like literally forever.
Just goes to show you that America never really had a “gun” problem but a problem with White America itself.

I’m going to say something here, but before I do, I think I should qualify the following: I am a cisgendered white male, who in my high school years, identified as completely straight, as I was still not fully aware of demisexuality.
I was also very heavily bullied. I came from a poor home, with divorced parents, my dad was an abusive alcoholic and my mother lived with a fucking heroin addict who regularly stole the grocery money to feed his habit. I was also seeing the school counselor regularly because I was in a constant depressive state, with a side of anxiety. I was basically the poster child for everything the far right wants to portray as the things that make a school shooter, i.e; unstable home life, bullied, loner, poor, & mentally ill.
I want to make it clear, though, that I agree with everything stated above. Bullying made me angry sometimes, sure, but not once did I ever decide “Hey, killing everyone would solve my problems!”.
These mass murdering fuckheads are the problem. Stop blaming it on the people who won’t be friends with them, and start blaming it on the people who think that murder is an acceptable response to loneliness and/or bullying.
This is something fundamentally wrong with the shooters, not something wrong with the people around them. Blaming it on the kids who didn’t make an effort to be friends with the guy who thinks murder would solve his problems is the laziest possible way to avoid discussing the real problems aside from saying “thoughts and prayers” and then never discussing it again.
I think it’s also important to point out most of these people ARE THE BULLIES. The reason they don’t have friends isn’t random: they choose to be unlikeable people by being bullies.

Does “mediocre white boy is so entitled that he resorts to violence when told no” really sound particularly unusual to you?
I devoted my entire graduate studies and thesis on mass school shootings, multiple murderers, and criminal psychology and I can tell you that this is in fact completely true and is suported by an unbelievable amount of emperical, quantifiable data that I slaved over for years. 💯
Don’t armchair diagnose mass shooters and other killers. The misconception that all violent people must be mentally ill (and the following conclusion that all mentally ill people must be dangerous) has horrible real life consequences for visibly mentally ill people.
50% of people killed by police are disabled or mentally ill (and the victims are disproportionately black or other people of color) because the unusual behavior of visibly disabled and visibly mentally ill people is read as inherently threathening and dangerous.
Please consider the real life consequences of reinforcing the association between mental illness and violence – people are dying because y’all want to blame all evil in the world on severe mental illness so that you can clearly separate yourself from it. You’re harming an already extremely vulnerable and marginalized group of people and it’s time to stop!
I encourage people who aren’t schizophrenic to reblog this. These stereotypes are literally getting people killed and I’ve seen no awareness around this on this website.

The FBI identified the gunman who opened fire this morning during a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, as James T. Hodgkinson, 66, of Belleville, Illinois. The bureau said Hodgkinson was taken to the hospital, where he died.
It would be totally preventable if only they paid attention to his violence against women.

Including the comfortable fiction of unpredictability, of course. When it’s very unusual for someone to go off on some kind of violent spree without having shown some really worrying behavior before that, if anyone cared to pay attention.
