Hope this will spread as much as save net neutrality posts

it’s way worse than that law actually, in US they “just” wanted your money, here the EU goverment wants to take our freedom without even giving a choice

SPREAD THIS

I’m just speechless. Dudes, this is wayyyy worse then The Net Neutrality bullshit in the US. Spread this like a wildfire! I don’t wanna lose everything I have thanks to this law!

Oh my gosh why am I only hearing about this now?
Please everyone, spread this! Most of the time we talk about problems that are happening in the US but this time it’s in the EU and we need to stand against it!!

Please help if you can it’s going to make so much damage!
Just for an example, both of my blogs will disappear if it isn’t stopped, ao3 will also disappear for european countries just like every website like these ones.

So please, help!!

So glad to finally see a post about this! I was seriously considering making on myself. If you’re in the EU, please do your research on this and consider contacting your MEP.

This is an important issue and has been since the draft legislation was first kicking around a couple of years ago. By all means, call or contact your MEPs and complain.

However, here are some info links that don’t come with affiliation to the guy who called EDL co-founder Tommy Robinson “a political prisoner”:

We drafted the final boss

But now it has to pass the House of Representatives and then get a signature from Donald Trump. Don’t just stand by and watch. PLEASE go to the voting booth for the midterm elections. I understand that people are jaded and that there absolutely is corruption on both sides, but when it comes to major (for the general public) issues it’s inaccurate to say both parties are the problem. There is absolutely one party that focuses on protecting the wealthy rather than the disenfranchised.

Here’s a list of all the senators who voted in favor of repealing net neutrality:

  • Alexander (R-TN)
  • Barrasso (R-WY)
  • Blunt (R-MO)
  • Boozman (R-AR)
  • Burr (R-NC)
  • Capito (R-WV)
  • Cassidy (R-LA)
  • Corker (R-TN)
  • Cornyn (R-TX)
  • Cotton (R-AR)
  • Crapo (R-ID)
  • Cruz (R-TX)
  • Daines (R-MT)
  • Enzi (R-WY)
  • Ernst (R-IA)
  • Fischer (R-NE)
  • Flake (R-AZ)
  • Gardner (R-CO)
  • Graham (R-SC)
  • Grassley (R-IA)
  • Hatch (R-UT)
  • Heller (R-NV)
  • Hoeven (R-ND)
  • Hyde-Smith (R-MS)
  • Inhofe (R-OK)
  • Isakson (R-GA)
  • Johnson (R-WI)
  • Lankford (R-OK)
  • Lee (R-UT)
  • McConnell (R-KY)
  • Moran (R-KS)
  • Paul (R-KY)
  • Perdue (R-GA)
  • Portman (R-OH)
  • Risch (R-ID)
  • Roberts (R-KS)
  • Rounds (R-SD)
  • Rubio (R-FL)
  • Sasse (R-NE)
  • Scott (R-SC)
  • Shelby (R-AL)
  • Sullivan (R-AK)
  • Thune (R-SD)
  • Tillis (R-NC)
  • Toomey (R-PA)
  • Wicker (R-MS)
  • Young (R-IN)

Furthermore, here’s a list of the Republicans who voted to save Net Neutrality:

  • Collins (R-ME)
  • Kennedy (R-LA)
  • Murkowski (R-AK)

I will not be making a list of Democrats who voted to repeal Net Neutrality because none of them did. This is NOT over. The Senate vote was the easiest part of the process. Passing the House will be significantly more difficult and the final step is that Donald Trump has to sign the bill. The fact that the bill passed is great, but the prospect of it passing the House is iffy and the final step being Donald Trump’s signature when Michael Cohen’s been taking AT&T money is not promising. Don’t celebrate yet. Keep fighting back and keep voting. Pay attention to your local and state governments and their voting too because it’s likely they’re also fucking you in some way. And anytime you think a Republican seems decent, check their voting record. Actions speak louder than words, but when it comes to politics we often let words speak louder than actions, in particular when it comes to holding people accountable.

How Net Neutrality will Recede Post-April 23d, 2018

videogamesincolor:

The Following text is copied from the thread of the official twitter of fightforthefuture.org:

@fightfortheftr (April 19, 2018): There have been a lot of inaccurate reports that the FCC’s repeal of #NetNeutrality will officially go into effect next week on April 23rd. That’s not true. It’s a bit more complicated than that. Ready? Here we go:

Its understandable many journos are confused by this. It’s legitimately confusing. The FCC order said it would go into effect 60 days after publication in the Federal Register, which would have been April 23rd. But, it still has to be approved by the Office of Management & Budget.

There was another FCC filing in the Federal Register that would imply the earliest the OMB could approve this (and its worth noting that approval is basically just a technicality) is actually April 27th, but its likely to happen some time after that, possibly even weeks after.

The most important thing for EVERYONE to understand is that nothing catastrophic or dramatic is going to happen immediately when the FCC rules go into effect. Telecom shills will immediately start saying “See? The sky didn’t fall, we never needed #NetNeutrality.“

They’re lying.

The ISPs aren’t going to immediately start blocking content or rolling out paid prioritization scams. They know Congress and the public are watching them. Rather, the death of #NetNeutrality will be slow and insidious. You might not even notice it at first.

And that’s the worst part. What will happen is over time ISP scams and abuses will become more commonplace and more accepted. They’ll roll out new schemes that appear good on their face but undermine the free market of ideas by allowing ISPs to pick winners and losers.

Over time we’ll see less awesome startups. Less awesome videos. Less diverse online content. And we’ll see more content that our ISPs want us to see. The Internet will be watered down and manipulated. It will change forever in ways that harm our democracy.

But it will take time.

So: don’t fall for ISP lobbyists talking points. They’re ALREADY claiming that #NetNeutrality was never needed since the sky hasn’t fallen, and the rules haven’t even gone into effect. But also don’t panic. The Internet is not going to die next week. Keep calm and keep fighting.

The Senate will vote in a matter of weeks on a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to block the FCC’s repeal. Now is the moment to get engaged.

Democrats are just one vote shy of restoring net neutrality

thoughtremixer:

I haven’t done an update on Net Neutrality in a while as I was trying to find a reasonable “next step”, especially since it’s been out of the “news cycle” for a bit. Well, I have some good news.

According to the senator (minority leader Chuck Schumer) from New York, they now have a total of 50 votes for a Senate resolution of disapproval that would restore the Open Internet Order of 2015 and deliver a stiff rebuke to Ajit Pai and other Republican members of the FCC. It would also prevent the agency from passing a similar measure in the future, all but guaranteeing Net Neutrality is permanently preserved

What’s stopping them now? They need just ONE more Republican and they have less than 30 days to do it.

So goes the next actionable step. You have to contact your senators and get them to suppose the Congressional Review of “the Open Internet Order of 2015″.

There are two ways to go about it.

1) Via 5calls.org using this script – https://5calls.org/issue/fcc-net-neutrality-cra

2) Via https://resist.bot/ – you can write to Congress using this site or  Text RESIST to Resistbot on Telegram, Messenger, or to 50409 on SMS. By providing basic information, you can write your Senator to move forward.

Now, if you got a Democratic Senator, push them on to find that one Republican Senator. If you got a Republican Senator, encourage them to reconsider their stance on Net Neutrality.

We just need ONE Republican Senator and we have less than 30 days to do so.

Important update about Bell Media/Canadian Net Neutrality and how to share your thoughts with the CRTC

chromalogue:

allthecanadianpolitics:

So today, my cdnpoli twitter blog (@allthecdnpoli), actually got a private message from the CRTC’s twitter account. The CRTC is Canada’s telecommunications regulator, similar to the US’s FCC (though structured differently).

They noticed that a relatively large amount of responses to the CRTC came from traffic generated by this blog.

One post I shared earlier on this blog contained instructions on how to comment on Bell Media’s anti-piracy/anti-net neutrality proposal.

This is the proposal that Bell Media is apparently planning on bringing to the CRTC (and why Canadians are mad as hell about it):

Bell Wants To Use NAFTA To Completely Criminalize Piracy

Inside Bell’s Push To End Net Neutrality In Canada

Bell, Rogers, Cineplex Linked To ‘Radical’ Website Blocking Plan: Report

Bell Leads on Radical Proposal for CRTC-Backed Mandatory Website Blocking System

If you previously reblogged that post with instructions on how to submit comments to the CRTC, can you delete it, as it has wrong information?

The intention behind that post was good, but it was directed to the wrong proposal at the CRTC. The proposal that the vast majority of people sent their net neutrality remarks to was actually about ‘the license renewals of English language television private ownership groups’. People got this mixed up because the proposal was by Bell and Rogers (and Corus).

The CRTC have told me that they have forwarded all these responses from tumblr to the correct proposal, and so if you want to let the CRTC know what your thoughts are about Bell’s proposal you can comment at the link below:

https://services.crtc.gc.ca/pub/instances-proceedings/Default-Defaut.aspx?lang=eng&YA=2017&S=O&PA=b&PT=nc&PST=a#2017-359

This is where you need to submit your comments. The deadline is open until 13th of February, 2018.

You can read additional information on the comments section here:

Consultation on the future of program distribution in Canada

and:

Broadcasting Notice of Consultation CRTC 2017-359

As for Net Neutrality, the CRTC said this:

Concerning Net neutrality, the CRTC has supported and reinforced net neutrality in Canada. In fact, the CRTC’s net neutrality framework was developed through a series of decisions confirming that service providers should treat data traffic equally (regardless of the content) to foster consumer choice, innovation and the free exchanges of ideas.

For more information:

Strengthening net neutrality in Canada

This gives me some hope that if Bell does propose what they are apparently proposing that they’ll be shot down, but lets all keep focus on this until its clear that its not a danger to net neutrality.

I’d appreciate if you could share this post, to clear up some of the misinformation going around tumblr.

Thank you.

How To Support Canadian Net Neutrality

Posted December 19th, 00:45 PST

If you are currently unfamiliar with the unexpected net neutrality battle, please refer to this post.

As a short summary, Bell Media, backed by Cineplex and Rogers Media, is attempting to take control of net neutrality in Canada by going directly to the CRTC (who regulates most Canadian media related leglislation).

This allows them to skip the regular court process that would normally open them to public disapproval and is a dangerous and underhanded move for all Canadians.

This guide will show you how to directly comment to the CRTC on the proposal put forward by Bell step by step. The comment process should take less than ten minutes and could make a huge difference on tomorrow’s outcome.

The following is for Canadian citizens or permanent residents only. If you are neither please follow the above link where you can still make your voice heard by signing the active petition. Please also continue to circulate information including this post and the post linked above.

You can continue to do this until the hearing period is over, but comments submitted in the next few hours will also hold a lot of weight.

First open a new browser tab to this page: https://services.crtc.gc.ca/pub/CommentForm/Default-Defaut.aspx?lang=e&EN=2017-429&ET=N&S=O&PA=B&PT=A&PST=A&FN=

You will see a feedback form. Select all three applicants listed (Bell Media, Corus Entertainment, and Rogers Media).

Next, select your intervention type as opposition. You will also submit your comment here. If you don’t know what to write or don’t feel comfortable writing from scratch, you can use the following skeleton:

“My name is [LEGAL NAME], and I am writing my intervention in opposition to this application.

The application will set a standard for media moderation without input from the majority of Canadian consumers. As a Canadian citizen, I do not believe this is in line with our right to freedom of speech and furthermore does not accurately represent the majority of consumers desires.

As a consumer I ask for this application to be denied, as it stands in opposition to the beliefs of the CRTC as well as the values we as a people hold for our freedom of information and speech.”

I recommend changing the wording slightly if you are able. However even just a direct paste if you agree with the message still is a good contribution.

This next part is optional, but I would recommend selecting “I do not wish to appear” unless you are completely confident should you actually be asked to defend your message in person.

Unless for some reason you actually are a respondent or a designated representative (if you are one you’ll know, don’t worry), skip these two. Agree to the confirmation of service, you won’t be asked to provide evidence or proof as you are responding as a consumer not as a legal or commercial representative.

Finally, before completing make sure all necessary sections are properly filled out. Use your legal name and most professional email.

If you have any questions or if I missed something, please let me know.

foreverpsg:

Please everyone, take a minute and spread awareness for Net Neutrality in Canada. These telecom companies are the absolute worst. They give you TV channels for years and then “take it away”(without your contract changing), they hike up the price of cellphone contracts(along with Apple geofixing products that, even with the exchange rate are $100 cheaper in the USA).
These things are so necessary in today’s world, but have become so inflated and expensive it isn’t feasible. Can you imagine paying $200 for a cellphone, as well as $70/month for the newest iPhone/Samsung?
Canadians are paying some of the highest rates worldwide for cellular, television and Internet contracts by these companies, and now they want to make it even more expensive.

Bell, Cineplex, Rogers and Shaw are trying to censor the internet and force the end of net neutrality in Canada.

allthecanadianpolitics:

It’s scary – Bell, Cineplex, Shaw, and Rogers are trying to censor the internet and force the end of net neutrality in Canada. And worse, they’re trying to do it behind closed doors.

These 4 companies, led by Bell, are pushing to create an internet “blacklist” of certain websites that all internet service providers in Canada would legally have to block. They know this outrageous proposal would never pass, so first, they tried to sneak it into NAFTA negotiations – and now Bell is expected to introduce its proposal to Canada’s telecom regulator TOMORROW.

Critics are calling this move “unprecedented” and dangerous. If these companies get their way, this internet blacklist would have absolutely zero oversight in the courts. We need to stop this urgently.
