My boyfriend is triggered by Christmas and Christmas music. We were in a restaurant, and Christmas music was playing, and he started panicking so he went outside for a cigarette. The manager of the restaurant overheard him saying he had to get out, and changed the music over for the rest of the time we were there. There are safe spaces in the real world. People are nicer than you think. And bullshit people who try to tell you to get over your triggers, ain’t shit.
Honestly “the world is cruel get over it” is pretty easily translated to “I’m a complete asshole who doesn’t want to be held responsible for my sh*tty behavior”

The idea behind Tumblr, namely the dashboard, how posts and reblogs work (kinda like mini-threads that stream endlessly onto your dash), and the tagging system, is actually superb and I have yet to find another social media site on par with this format. Hence why we all stay here.
But then there’s also the incompetent staff and the extreme cultural madness of the website, hence why we hate it despite staying.
A little advice from someone studying extremist groups: if you’re in a social media environment where the daily ubiquitous message is that you have no hope of any kind of future and you can’t possibly achieve anything without a violent overthrow of society, you’re being radicalized, and not in the good way.

When I was on the Trump march in Edinburgh, we went to the pub afterwards and every time we tried to discuss the Hostile Environment raft of policies, the Americans in our group derailed to talk about American anti-immigration rhetoric and how our government persecuting immigrants was going to embolden Trump. but that wasn’t what we were talking about and British anti immigration sentiment is worth addressing on its own terms, not as an offshoot of American politics, which it isn’t. When I’ve posted on Facebook about the ongoing collapse of the UK government, I’ve had American friends comment on it saying ‘oh its like what’s happening here is spreading’.
British militarisation of the police has been happening for decades, and this article is also about the imminent collapse of our economy and infrastructure with Brexit, which has nothing to do with ‘giving Trump ideas’ (he…also doesn’t need that idea, he’s already sending armed police to gun down women and children at the border?) and has in fact been percolating since the referendum six months before Trump was elected. The reason the government is considering armed military forces in the street is because they’re afraid of riots and looting in the event of No Deal Brexit, when they expect to have to ration food and manage profound shortages across the UK if we crash out of Europe with no trade deal and no continuity of supply lines, because it will take time to both reestablish the necessary infrastructure to run a separate economy and the trade lines to bring in food and necessary supplies. This is the version of Brexit that many higher-ups in the government are agitating for, because they’re filthy rich and it won’t affect them nearly as much. This is not a signal to America or an offshoot of American issues or a product of American politics. This is the British government making plans for what they’ll do if they starve their own people out.

Let’s add in another thing, shall we? Fifteen years ago, ten years ago, hell, even seven years ago, the number of people I was seeing in online LGBTQ+ communities that could be described as ‘truscum’ was minuscule. Then the number just exploded in the last few years… in seemingly direct correlation with the slow rise in acceptance of nonbinary / genderqueer identities. When that realization clicked for me, the thing became even uglier.
I’ll be exceedingly blunt: ideologies based on identity-policing have zero place in LGBTQ+ communities, whether online or offline. It is our duty to see that every single one of our siblings finds a safe, welcoming space, that will give them the support and the tools to discover themselves, instead of denying them the knowledge of their own self.
This is pretty much exactly the reason why I could never swallow truscum or exclusionist rhetoric, either. I get so unbelievably angry when I see people say shit like “he/him lesbians are invalid and bad” like God fuck off? What fucking business is it of yours? Are you literally so insecure with yourself that you have to be a big, raging asshole to people who are not doing any tangible harm to anyone?
