Don’t call the victims of the Pittsburgh shooting martyrs.

Don’t say they’re in heaven. Don’t force Christian terms and imagery on them. They were ALL Jewish. Don’t call them saints. They were Jewish people who didn’t ask to be murdered by a Nazi.

Even if they had been Christian, being randomly shot by some evil fucker doesn’t make you a saint or a martyr…

I feel like Gen Z isn’t aware that Boomers had a counterculture or that it has any relevance still

It’s weird. It’s like they’re totally unaware that the Civil Rights Movement existed, that there were radicalized countercultures, that Woodstock/the “Summer of Love”/ etc happened.

As a Gen Xr who had hippie parents, who’s known lots of Gen Xrs who had hippie parents, it’s weirding me out. There is a lot of specific cultural, generational baggage that goes with that. It’s not like the stereotypical Millennial just crawled out from under a rock, there were lots of Gen Xrs who were early adopters of that zeitgeist.

Also, Gen Y mainstream edge culture has its roots in Gen X counterculture, which has its roots in Boomer counterculture.

anyways fuck america for not educating students about the aids crisis whatsoever

my drama teacher mentioned to us “most of my friends from college are dead” and I knew right away what he meant. he explained “I was a drama major in the 1980s” and still no one else in the class understood. he explained a little bit about the aids crisis, but these kids had no idea before. it is truly heartbreaking to hear about it, and especially to see it being erased.

With Trump now claiming that he can unilaterally just take away the right of birthright citizenship, a right explicitly and unambiguously written in the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, I just want to make something clear.

The Constitution doesn’t mean anything. Anybody in power can ignore it whenever they want, and they have done so repeatedly throughout US History. Screaming “this is clearly unconstitutional” is correct, but ultimately hollow – as any historian of the US knows. It doesn’t matter what the Constitution says. It never has. And it has certainly never mattered to conservatives – these people wield the constitution in the same way they wield the Bible – as a means to exercise power. That is the beginning, middle, and end of the right-wing relationship to he Constitution.

If you see conservatives screaming about adhering to the Constitution, ask them what they really want, because it is normally something dark. Because they will throw out the constitution as soon as it suits them. They have done so, and they will always do so, and calling them out for their hypocrisy will never change their mind. They want to keep and maintain power. That’s it.

Rules only matter in practical terms if the people charged with enforcing the rules have the power and will to do so.  The GOP have made it abundantly clear, over and over and over, that they aren’t going to punish their own no. matter. what.

(The Dems might have made things similarly clear but the last time they had the kind of power the GOP has now, Facebook statuses were still auto-prefaced with “Jack is feeling” so I don’t remember.)

It’s sad that toxic game culture is so prevalent cuz like. As someone who has ended up in random matches with kids before, I can attest to how fucking easy it is to reverse and un-teach shitty attitudes in kids.

Example: I downloaded Friday the 13th because it’s free on psn. I dunno how to play, so I just enter quick play and I’m matched with 3-4 kids on mic. Immediately on mic they’re shitty and disparaging to each other. They laugh at each others deaths, they actively work against team mates and self sabotage, they call each other “fags”, etc. From the sounds of the voices they cannot be older than 13-14.

I put on my mic and just decide I ain’t havin it. I am nice. I thank them for barricading doors or leaving me items. When they break free from Jason’s grasp I say “good job!” or I try to help them. One kid survived for most of the match by himself. When he dies, I tell him he did a fantastic job.

The mood shift is practically INSTANT. These kids almost immediately stop being dick heads. They start encouraging each other and being kind. After the match all of them try to friend request me. Which should tell you a couple of things:

A) kids want to be kind, and they want to have a nice time playing games. But encounters with adults like me or so rare that they’ve trained themselves to instantly put on a toxic, shitty, defensive veneer when encountering any new person online. It’s literally just THAT EASY to not groom a horrible gaming community, it’s just that NO ONE does it.

B) the speed of which they all tried to friend me was cute, but paints for me such a sad picture? Like these kids are SO desperate to find people to play with who aren’t crappy jerks. They played with me for 10 minutes TOPS and all instantly tried to reach out to me.

tl;dr: The kids are alright. Adults are shit heads.

I cant agree with this post more

The thing. The thing about kids. The thing about kids is that they learn a) very quickly and b) CONSTANTLY. Their brains are super flexible and they don’t have decades of experience – the latter meaning they have both fewer preconceptions and less perspective. It makes them both extremely vulnerable and extremely adaptable, and if you, An Adult, deliberately or carelessly use this to encourage them to think the world is a nasty, cynical place…well, then, that’s a self ful-fuckin’-filling prophecy, innit?

Because that kid, in the short term, is gonna feel bad, and they’re a person, and making people feel bad cos you can’t be bothered not to is Evil. And that kid, in the long term, has that much more likelihood of being nasty and cynical, and passing that on to other people, and so on and so forth.

Be good to kids, whether you like them or not, both because it is the right thing to do, and because it will cut down on the number of assholes you have to put up with when you’re old.

I’m sorry to ask but I’m really confused with the ao3 thing? What’s going on? I couldn’t find anything about it when I googled it

Ao3 was literally set up by people who wanted to post post snape / hermione because mods on the big fic site at the time (I actually can’t remember what it’s called fml, but it wasn’t ff.net) wouldn’t allow adults to write child / adult porn.

also that freak who wrote the mortal instruments was part of that group. Lel

Basically people are saying, don’t give these people your money, especially when they’re just going to pocket it and not actually use it for the website (they’ve been asking for donations for YEARS and the site is the exact same with only minor tweaks). Whatever if you use ao3, I think we can all acknowledge it’s the most comprehensive fic site, but don’t hand them $ when meanwhile LGBT teens are homeless and constantly putting up donation posts here and getting nothing back. There’s better ways to spend your money, and if you want to monetarily support (not creepy) lgbt fic writers, actually buy them kofis or commission them!

EDIT: it was livejournal

Actually it was born when Livejournal mass deleted lgbt groups and victim therapy groups, specifically reported by an anti-gay group who disguised their concerns as being anti-paedophilia by throwing just enough questionable content files up to convince LJ to sweep the whole lot no questions asked.

Disproportionately the purge came after marginalised groups of all stripes more than anything that could even be loosely defined as paedo.

By pretending it really was an anti-paedophilia move you’re supporting aggressively homophobic organisations in their attacks.

To further this point, I would point out LJ is owned and run in Russia and the TOS now forbids ‘homosexual propaganda’ and includes any form of discussion re: lgbt existing let alone issues faced by them in that category. Unless you want to pretend Russian anti-homosexuality laws are totes the ultimate paedophile protection, (in which case go fuck yourself,) it’s really fucking stupid to pretend strikethrough was a pedo purge.

On another point: server space and bandwith are not free you stupid ignorant dog fucker. Donating to a thing you like to use to allow it to continue to exist is a different thing to charitable actions, think pay-what-you-want video games like humble bundle where the choice to pay nothing exists.

Unless you want to go on about how you’re fucking over lgbt youth by buying yourself any form of fun food, or entertainment while people are homeless, in which case, also go fuck yourself.

Essentially, if you try to police fandom and support morality crusades based on fiction (especially while lying about shit), you are NOT an lgbt supporter, a feminist, a champion for abuse survivors, or someone who cares about minors.

You’re just a wanker who’s patting themselves on the back for harassing people and probably perpetuating vicious bigotry in the form of sexism, racism, and lgbt-phobias, so yeah, ’go fuck yourself

ok but the problem is more the way electoral college votes by state are handled, rather than the college existing at all. almost every state has a ‘winner take all’ policy – if the vote is 51% one way and 49% the other in a state w 10 votes in the college, the 51% will get all 10… when in reality it should be each side getting 5 votes. which would fix a *lot* of the issues w the college.

There’s this guy that sits in front of me who you would think is a conservative redneck bc his entire aesthetic is southern lumberjack w boots and denim and hats but he’s actually one of the most inclusive and anti trump guy I’ve ever met and today he wore this hat that sums up his entire personality and I’m screaming.

Don’t judge a book by its cover; make cornbread, not war.

Hey, this is the  motto of the Southern Foodways Alliance, and among other things, they have an AMAZING podcast called Gravy, which ‘shares stories of the changing American South through the foods we eat’.

You  like this hat. Listen to that podcast. You’ll be happy.

Y’all need to stop being surprised by the radicalism in The South. The idea that Southerners are inherently more backwards is steeped in classism and ableism and erases all the awesome work marginalized folks are doing out there

Yeah if you’re from the south at all yall know theres that whole ass saying about 1/3rds of folks in the appalachias being communists, only liberal yuppies from the north are ever surprised by this lmao

Appalachia is the land of kindly lesbian witches who chain themselves to trees to protest pipelines.

Deported to where?

Hey folks, just a reminder that this is a *fascist* government

last year: There is literally an old Trump tweet for every awful thing he does!

this year: There is literally a direct nazi parallel for every awful thing he does!

This is true to a degree but if I can admit that. Then y’all need to recognize that anti-fascism people are trying to limit free speech under a moral and good disguise just like the Nazi storm trupers did!

Fucking the world’s going to he’ll in a hand basket no matter who says what or thinks what.

Free speech means the government cant arrest you for saying shit. It doesnt mean that there arent social and personal consequences for saying shit.

Nazis advocate for genocide. Anyone with any morals at all should oppose that.

I…. deporting someone for taking a knee during the nation is about as anti free speech as you can get, given that all the anti-fascist people on this post are against it, and the fascists seem to be all for it I really don’t understand how the fucking hell someone could come to the conclusion that the anti-fascists are the ones against free speech here
