@quill-of-thoth – There’s actually no drain to handle rain runoff back there at all, as handy as it might be sometimes. But, I’m definitely glad it’s just rainwater and not also backed-up kitchen drains now👍 That metal cover the water was coming up from is just an inspection cover for the house drains. The pavement slopes away from it, especially into that one corner.

Worst case, now I know you can take the lid off and sweep water into the hole if necessary! Never actually had any reason to open it before the water company guy came and had to poke around in there. The standing rain should eventually soak into the ground through the pavement cracks, though.

The patio setup in general seems like just another in the collection of DIY Don’ts from some previous owner. Planning for drainage? Using one of those fancy levels? Who has time for such nonsense?! 🙄

@katisconfused – Definitely that too.

Even in this particular case, which was actually prompted by getting out for a while to play Pokemon Go.

Still involves some walking around, and maybe even taking the bus. But, especially at night when things are less crowded? Still often a lot more manageable than going grocery shopping. Not the same stress of dealing with people, and then having to lug stuff home on public transport. As only a couple of the aspects which can make that more difficult.

Just as one example that may look more similar on the surface, but not so much once you think about what all is really involved in doing the thing.

Yeah, I figured that was the point there. Totally understandable. I always get irritated at people not bothering with proper attributions.

Mostly just a flare of frustration here over some ongoing issues which seem to be getting worse. May be better for everyone to ignore the venting *wry smile*
