TIL in 2015 a father saved his son’s life when doctors wrongly declared him braindead and were taking him off life support. He barricaded himself with a gun in the hospital and had a stand-off with SWAT until his son squeezed his hand. The son made a full recovery

via reddit.com

I actually just heard about this on the radio; the Michael Berry Show on WRNO 99.5. The hospital was trying to harvest his organs, and declared him dead. His father barricaded the door, and held an entire swat team at bay, until his son squeezed his hand, awake from a forced coma.

It gets better…

The swat team brought their own doctors who, after finally securing the room, started to check the kid. Turns out, the kid was fine, after waking up from the coma.

It gets better…

After the swat team doctors checked out the kid, there was a nurse who came in to “check” on the kid. The swat doctors asked to see her orders. Turns out she didn’t have any. What she did have was a 50cc syringe in her pocket, full of a powerful sedative. 5cc’s were enough to put someone in a deep coma. There were 50cc’s in the syringe, more than enough to euthanize the kid.

It gets better…

Swat doctors took her into custody. She refused to talk. They got a warrant and started checking into the deaths happening at the hospital. Turns out, there were a great many “quick decisions” made by hospital staff, for patients to be put into medically induced comas, from which they never woke up. All of which were finalized with organ transplants. Organ transplants which the families of the deceased did not know about.

TL:DR The hospital was euthanizing patients after illegally putting them into medical comas, then harvesting their organs.

Here are some facts:

1. OP post is legit.

2. Addition by doubletap-centermass is…. the plot of 1978 film Coma.

3. Also: you can google the hospital from the OP news story. You’d think that a crazy organ-stealing conspiracy would be the first thing that comes up when you google that hospital. Nothing like that comes up. Also, if you listen to the radio show the second poster keeps citing: nothing about it comes up either. (Quelle surprise.)

4. Fear-mongering about organ transplants, and just hospitals in general, is a classic ultra-right-wing scare tactic. Which would make sense, considering that Tumblr user doubletap-centermass is…

a virulent anti-Semite and homophobe. It feels extra weird to see LGBT and Jewish tumblrs sharing this right and left.

5. There have been scandals about hospitals being pressured to declare unconscious patients brain-dead so that they could harvest organs…  such as this scandal from 2012, in New York state, which involved precisely four cases and also is totally unrelated to the article shared by OP, from Texas in 2015. And again, just because I can’t get over this: the part about deliberately putting patients into comas to steal their organs is literally the plot of 1978 film Coma.

6. If you’ve reblogged this and you’re like “Shit!!” and wish you hadn’t: I guess maybe considering deleting the reblog from your tumblr? Or even reblog this instead. I mean, getting the correct information out would be a good way to fix this bizarro thing. Hell, even if you haven’t reblogged the weirdo post but you’re seeing this on your dashboard instead: consider sharing it just to get the correct info out there.

Please feel free to add to this post if you find concrete actual evidence of anything I missed. I am human and fallible.

P.S. I will also add, just for the principle of the thing: somebody saying “I heard it on the radio” is about as reliable a source as “I overheard some man on a bus telling it to his neighbor”. (Especially since so much radio, these days, is about as reliable a source of accurate information as any random conspiracy theorist’s podcast.)

Also adding that Coma was a 1977 novel by Robin Cook before it got a film adaptation. (“The blockbuster bestseller that kickstarted a new genre–the medical thriller”)

I’ve been kinda impressed at how commonly that basic plot does get snagged as an urban legend-turned-conspiracy theory. It may be an older work by now,, but it’s hardly obscure.

Something that is interesting about this to me is like… it’s not like we don’t have a somewhat similar issue only it is just “patient is forced into dangerous treatment without consent?

Like no one steals organs but if you are say, a child who has been taken by cps (a “ward of the state”) hospitals can use them for drug trials. If you are institutionalized in prison or a psych hospital you will usually not get any say in your treatment similarly.

Also you know that article that came out recently with the company intentionally not trying to cure things due to profits.

Like there are plenty of valid dystopian health care things going on WITHOUT this bullshit you could focus on actually preventing from happening in the future but go off I guess.

Similar with all the willfully clueless far right stories about the NHS. (And probably other systems; I just have firsthand experience with it, and right wing cranks in the US do seem pretty fixated on that example.)

It could work a lot better for more of the population. There are loads of very real systemic problems which urgently need fixed to ensure equal access to good quality care. Rather different ones from what these folks prefer to imagine, though.

i cannot tell you how many times, that people dont think i am chronically ill. because i’m brown. even on tumblr, the amount of people who immediately assume i am not chronically ill because i talk ab racism at the same time.

when i talk ab racism and racism with white spoonies, you all white ppl default to assuming i am not a spoonie myself. that is just. racism like you wouldn’t even know.

if you knew the racism that doctors perpertuate against chronically ill people of colour you would shut the hell up.assuming a nonwhite person talking ab racism with white spoonies to not be chronically ill is a form of racist medical violence

.you’re not better than the doctors who laugh at us and say we’re just lazy or that we try to milk the medical system like fuck all of you.i see to many of you like this and none of you hold yourselves accountable

this is ok to reblog even if you are not chronically ill but i would like other chronically ill people, esp white spoonies to reblog this please.

there is a huge amount of racism with the spoonie community and its never really addressed

How does being a colour make sense that you’re not sick? How is this a thing? I’m literally shocked people consider one colour over another “healthier”.

Even white people with healthcare backgrounds often have a hard time convincing their own doctors, family and friends that something is wrong with them. They have to fight and fight and advocate for themselves and explain and re-explain and deal with skepticism and scorn. It’s a horrible experience for anyone to go through. Now let’s add widespread, systemic racism on top of that. Now let’s add the racists arguing that they aren’t racist. How many spoons do you have left?

transcription [BREAKING NEWS: North and South Korea will sign a peace treaty to formally end the Korean War later this year, 65 years after hostilities ceased
cnn.it/2Jz4CIr ]

4/27/18

Whoa.

History in the making

Huh, are you saying Trump has managed in a year and a half what the last 11(?) president have failed to do?

Well that’s fucking curious I don’t see his name on this. I don’t think it can be his result

My understanding was that US Foreign policy was something the Office of the President was responsible for setting out and achieving?

If that is correct this would be Trumps success unless this all secretly began under Obama?

This is not an American success. The Secretary of State was appointed either yesterday or the day before, the state department is in shambles. No reports indicate any major US officials being in the room. This is a Korean victory that is independent from the US, and is certainly not a Trump victory, who has done more to escalate tensions between the US and North Korea than the past four previous presidents.

Trump supporters hearing about foreign policy successes not made by the US:

And there is no news – the whole thing is a PR thing. Not a single binding vote, clause, suggestion, innuendo, or even a tiny ear wiggle from an official cat.
It is a PR release, not a statement of something that might actually happen.

Trump is happy to claim a victory in a game that he wasn’t in, has no outcome as of yet, and at current status is the equivalent of yelling “We win!” at a sporting event simply because the other team acknowleges your right to negotiate with them.

Trump solved war! – by pretending he has some world relevance and had an effect on two other countries that hate him declaring that they might stop fighting each other if it means they get a chance to hit Trump.

I am genuinely baffled how you can get ‘US foreign policy’ from that. Like, no. Countries are capable of solving problems (or not, as this case probably is just a PR thing) on their own without American intervention, shockingly. They can probably do better, too.

please raise your children to wash their hands after they use the restroom I’ve watched too many men walk straight out of the bathroom from the stall without a second thought and it’s keeping me up at night

I mean if you taking a piss who cares if you don’t wash your hands, unless you just like go full power and spray yourself like a out of control fire hose

stay the fuck away from me

people who wash their hands after peeing are weak and must be culled

The only excuse for not washing your hands after you piss is mastering the art of pissing without touching your genitals.

You wash your hands every time you touch your dick? How grimy is your dick?

I’m literally never shaking a man’s hand ever again in my life y’all need jesus

remember how i told y’all?

(they don’t wash their hands after shitting either)

What I’m learning is that men are the reason for “employees must wash their hands” signs and why I never put 2 and 2 together is beyond me

Just out of curiosity, do yall wash your hands every time you touch your arm or the back of your hand or any other part if your body?

wash your fucking hands, dickfingers mcgee

what the fuck is wrong with these dudes bruh

I want to spray this post with Lysol

AHEM.

“According to epidemiologist Richard T. Ellison III, it doesn’t matter what you do in the bathroom when it comes to keeping your hands clean. ‘The rationale is that when toileting, it’s possible to have fecal material and fecal bacteria get onto your hands … So it’s wisest to always wash with soap and water even after urinating. Neither plain water nor alcohol hand sanitizers are effective at removing fecal material or killing bacteria in fecal material.’

“According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, handwashing can prevent various illnesses and infections. Ellison added that it can also keep us from coming in contact with E. Coli and hepatitis. This is especially important for men to bear in mind because of perianal sweat. This type of sweat forms around the perianal area, which is the patch of skin outside the rectum. It can then spread to one’s underwear and to other parts of the body like the penis. Biology professor Pat Fidopiastis explained, ‘The point is that simply touching the penis in an effort to direct your urine flow can be more than enough to transfer harmful microbes to your hands, and then on to the pretzels sitting in bowl on the bar.’“

WASH.

YOUR.

HANDS.

We shouldn’t have to pull sources on why you need to wash your hands with soap

I’ve also seen women walk out without washing their hands, and dumped a woman because she didn’t have hand soap in her bathroom. But esus… the fact that these guys iare arguing about it like children is bad enough. Also, you want people to suck your dick but you don’t even wipe your dick after peeing??? Why don’t men wipe??

ferrari-lesbian:

a nice sunny day to remember that:

– freddie mercury was a self-identified gay man and not bisexual

– people only think he was bisexual because he wrote songs about women (obviously because he was the frontman of a rock band in the 70s and 80s – one of the biggest bands in history) and because he publically dated a woman once, who he constantly referred to as his best friend and later broke up with because he wanted relationships with men

– the idea that he’s bisexual is maintained and aggressively argued by people who cannot fathom that a man can be worthy of respect and admiration while not liking women. straight people call him bisexual instead of gay because it’s an easier pill to swallow for insecure men who like the band

– when his bandmates and close friends say that he’s gay or that he literally told them he was gay himself you should trust that more than your own uninformed judgement

– forcing the bisexual label onto him is purposeful gay erasure and homophobia

and that’s the tea

it looks like tumblr ate my response to this watery bitter tea so in a nutshell:

he said he was bi

if you think bi people don’t call ourselves gay as shorthand for straight people who don’t believe bisexuality exists, you’ve missed every bi blog here that endlessly says “I’M SO GAY” when a hot celebrity comes along

people continuously tell bi people that we’re either straight or gay. Freddie Mercury got it too; one ex girlfriend insisted he was gay, another one insisted he was straight. lady gaga gets called a straight ally all day long, the advocate called Anthony Rapp gay on its March 2018 cover, it. is. constant.

he said “Love Of My Life” was about Mary Austin

and Mary said they broke up because they grew apart when Queen got big and he was always either out touring, or out rehearsing

he dated other women, like Rose Pearson

even his obituary said he was “a self-confessed bisexual”

and I’ve never, ever heard a straight person acknowledge that he was bi. they insist that he was gay because they don’t believe bisexuality exists, and you believe it because they starve all of us of representation

and lastly: can you fucking imagine how pissed-off you would be if you had to deal with this shit your whole life, you managed to get it into your obituary that you were bi, and people still refused to believe you and took your friends’ word over yours

(unsurprisingly, OP is an exclusionist)

(Also I refer to my partner as my best friend too O CRAP MAYBE I’M SECRETLY STRAIGHT)

on the subject of the whole Russian bot thing, let me tell you a story

bemusedlybespectacled:

when I was in high school (2011 or thereabouts), I was part of a forum for fans of a particular webcomic (coughcough @discordcomics coughcough). because the webcomic was about queer people, almost everyone in the forum was some kind of queer. I learned like 90% of my queer politics through being a member and interacting with trans folks and ace folks and nonbinary folks and what have you all the time.

we had a section for cool queer news stories, and one day someone posted a link to a blog. it was written by a lesbian in Syria, and the post that was shared was her recounting how the night before, the secret police had come to take her away for being a lesbian, but her father had identified each of the men by name (like, “Don’t I know you from —?” and “Isn’t your father so-and-so?”), shaming them into leaving her alone. it was a heartwarming story, a really important bright spot for us queer folks (a Muslim dad! in Syria! standing up for his lesbian daughter!), and so when she was apparently kidnapped in broad daylight by armed men, the internet (including us!) freaked out and tried to search for her.

except “she” was a straight white man from the U.S. living in Scotland. everything “she” said was a lie.

now, according to him, he was trying to uplift the voices of Muslims (particularly Muslim women) who he’d met while studying. people were spreading misinformation about the Middle East and Muslims on the internet, and he wasn’t being listened to as a straight white man, and so he thought his opinions might be given more weight if they came from a Muslim lesbian woman.

the problem is, even if what he said was 100% accurate–even if he had so deeply studied the plight of women, particularly lesbians, in Syria, that no actual Syrian Muslim lesbian would disagree with him–the problem is that he’s not a Syrian Muslim lesbian. he’s a white guy from Georgia. he could do nothing but parrot talking points by actual queer Syrians all day and that would never give him the experience or knowledge to be able to speak for them.

the problem isn’t that the deleted blogs promoted ideas from BLM and other social justice groups. lots of people can do that, even if they’re not black or not American. even I can do that. but one thing I can’t do, as a white woman, is to pretend that I am black–to steal photos of real black people to use as my profile pics, to use AAVE exclusively, to talk about how “our” people are oppressed and hurt by white supremacy–even if it’s to promote goals that I agree with. that’s rachel dolezal levels of fuckery. or, more accurate, this is hivliving levels of fuckery.

imagine this wasn’t the IRA. imagine it was a bunch of white kids from spokane, or any one of the police officers who blame BLM for self-inflicted wounds and vandalism, or cole fucking sprouse. would we still be saying “but they made good points”? would we still be defending them as martyrs to tumblr’s censorship? would we claim them as legitimate social justice activists, instead of frauds who duped innocent people into believing they were members of marginalized groups?

rubyfruitgirl:

I know a lot of lesbians that used to identify as bi who worried that coming out as a lesbian would contribute to invalidating bisexuality in some way, by making it seem like a “stepping stone” to coming out as gay. I’ve also known bi women who identified as lesbians and changed their labels later, and worried that they were contributing to some kind of idea about how men can ~turn lesbians. I just wanted to say that it’s no individual lesbian or bi women’s responsibility to fix straight people’s perception of us. Like, it’s not your duty to serve as a political symbol! It’s your duty to find happiness even if that means changing ur label at some points.

Boys need to be taught that it doesn’t matter if the girl next to them is in a bikini or a burqa, it’s their job to learn algebra regardless, and how she’s dressed has nothing to do with them.”

“Last Monday morning was a little colder than I expected, so I made sure that there was a warm change of clothes in my daughter’s backpack in case she wanted to change. She’d had her heart set on wearing her rainbow sun dress since the weather warmed up so I finally acquiesced and let her. Still it wasn’t too surprising to me to see her walk out of school that afternoon with her T-shirt on over the dress and her jeans on under it.

“Did you get cold, sweetheart?” I asked her.“No,” she said a little crestfallen. “I had to change because spaghetti straps are against the rules.”

I’m not surprised to see the dress code shaming come into my house. I have after all been sadly waiting for it since the ultrasound tech said, “It’s a girl.” I didn’t think, though that it would make an appearance when she was five years old.

Five. You get me? She’s five. Cut her hair and put her next to a boy with no shirt on and she is fundamentally identical. I guess you could argue that a boy would not be allowed to wear a shirt with spaghetti straps either, but the day they sell anything like that in the boys section of a Target I will happily withdraw my objections.

Have you ever stopped to think how weird a school dress code really is? I went and checked out the one for my daughter’s school district and it’s amazing in how hard it tries not to say what it actually means. There are literally no male-specific guidelines anywhere on that list. I mean prohibitions against exposing the chest or torso could hypothetically apply to boys except that they don’t. Not really. They don’t sell boys clothes that do that. There’s nothing that is marketed to boys that is in anyway comparable to a skirt or a sun dress. Essentially, a school dress code exists to prevent girls from displaying too much of their bodies because reasons.

I didn’t pick up my daughter’s dress at My First Stripperwear. It’s not repurposed fetish gear from a store for very short people. It’s a dress from a mall chain store in her size. It covers everything but her shoulders and a small section of her upper chest and back. She’s worn it to church, and in the growing heat she was looking forward to wearing it a lot because it’s light and comfortable.

You know what really grills my cheese about it? It’s not even the shirt they made her put on over her top, it’s the pants they made her wear underneath. It’s a full-length dress that she has to hold up to keep from getting wet in uncut grass. She even had a small set of shorts underneath because it was gym day. But because the top part of her dress apparently exposed the immoral sinfulness of her bare shoulders she also had to pull on jeans even though her legs remained completely covered as part of her punishment.”

“I swear to God and all his Alf pogs I really didn’t think that I would have to face that particular dragon before she even entered a numbered grade.

Now I have this child, the one that argues scientific points about everything from the top speed of land animals in Africa to the classification of the planets with me endlessly, wordlessly accepting that a dress with spaghetti straps, something sold in every Walmart in America right now, is somehow bad. Wrong. Naughty. And most importantly that the answer is to cover up.

Make no mistake; every school dress code that is not a set uniform is about policing girls and girls alone.”

Jef Rouner: The Apparently Immoral Shoulders of My FIVE-YEAR-OLD Daughter

I’m not skimming through the reblogs to see what anyone else has to say, but ISTG that if I see or get ONE comment about “BUH BUH BUH IT TEH ROOLZ!” I will SLAP someone.

1. She’s five.
2. When I was in grade school, girls wore spaghetti-strap tank tops all the time and nobody made a fuss.
3. She’s FIVE.
4. Virtually NOTHING in the “dress code” applies to BOYS, it’s all about punishing GIRLS.
5. SHE’S FUCKING FIVE YEARS OLD. HER MALE CLASSMATES ARE FIVE YEARS OLD.
WHO IS “DISTRACTED” BY A FIVE-YEAR-OLD’S FUCKING SHOULDERS??? (THE
KIND OF ADULTS YOU DON’T. FUCKING. WANT AROUND FIVE-YEAR-OLDS, THAT’S
WHO.)

Also, it drives me crazy how society has basically decided on behalf of all boys that they are incapable of completing a task if a girl is exposing skin. Like, really???? come on! If you send that message to boys, it will get engrained in their heads that it’s normal to stare at girls in a sexual way. This mindset kind of tends to evolve into sexual entitlement and misogyny. Tell boys, hey, stop looking at her like that, it’s rude and shouldn’t distract you. punish the boys when they aren’t doing their classwork, don’t punish the girls for dressing in ways they are comfortable

Giving homeless people MONEY instead of FOOD can save their lives this winter, shelters cost money, being able to sit in McDonald’s and nurse a coke for a couple hours to warm up costs money, often accessing public toilets (whether it’s to use them, wash up or just to be out of the wind) costs money.

Just give homeless people cash, just do it, no excuses, no whining about “enabling their drug habits”, if you have money to spare, give it and possibly save someone from literally freezing to death.

and it’s condescending garbage to give things people they might not need instead of money they can exchange for suitable goods and services because you have some patronizing idea that you know what’s best for them more than they do.
