As for the “large enough that these guys form a cohort”, that is one of the reasons I pretty much stopped using G+.

Yeah, I also didn’t like some of the changes they kept making. But, Mr. C got me on there as soon as it went public (with him working there then)–and, from the get-go, there were too many of those guys.

Not all of them employees, but also others attracted by the existing cohort. Like there’s any shortage of them in tech anyway 😩

I never personally got to deal with garbage beyond some comment trolls looking for public posts to be assholes on. And at least it is more possible to filter who can see/interact with posts over there.

But, doubting I’m the only one who got tired of that as another reason to stay away. I can only imagine what some of the internal discussions turned into.

Funniest thing is people saying “folx” to make “folks” (a gender neutral word) gender neutral

ok but fuck you ok? Cos it’s real hard to convince Southern ppl to be genuine human beings, so I write “folx” whenever I can to show people in GA and KY (of all places) that being inclusive is *easy.* They don’t have to stop saying y’all or type folx themselves. They can use they for one person the same way I did for them just now. Fuck that negativity.

Y’all really just say any stupid shit that comes to mind huh

Imagine thinking a) transphobia is fixed by de-gendering non-gendered words, and b) that transphobia is a geographical issue like that isn’t rooted in deliberate classism & racism & like there’s only cis people in the south and only trans people in the north

how is folx inclusive like what does this mean

From what I understand it originally came from the music scene and then got twisted into like, a more inclusive way to refer to a group of people? Largely bc white ppl saw Latinxs using the x in place of a or o, and decided to just. Take it. So then you have two separate groups doing it for two separate reasons that i st got blended together into some weird way to show that you’re woke™️ without having to do anything.

^^^^

you just gotta end your nouns referring to a group of people with the letter X that’s how things work nowadays

“it’s real hard to convince Southern ppl to be genuine human beings”

At least it’s nice to see these people admitting they’re engaging in dehumanization along the lines of geographical origin

Holy shit. I have ALWAYS thought the people around me were being unconscionably intrusive and power-playing in their starter conversations and they told me I was antisocial and oblivious to culture norms. Turns out, maybe I’m just from a different culture.

middle-class culture IS unconscionably intrusive and power-playing tho so you’re not wrong

So you’re saying that if a child is having a meltdown in a grocery store because they can’t have a toy and NOTHING is working (like distracting them with music, iPad, etc.) that giving them one or two EXTREMELY LIGHT swats on the butt is abuse, especially if when they stop crying, you explain to them afterwards and tell them that you love them and that they’re not bad, their behavior was. I truly don’t understand that. Was so bad about that? I’m genuinely confused.

Im saying that it exists on a spectrum of violence that is ineffective at best and deeply harmful at worst. You have taught them that it they are upset or overwhelmed, that you will hurt them. You have not taught them how to cope with disappointment, being overwhelmed, or upset. Im not saying that this one exact hypothetical is abusive, but that it represents non ideal parenting that resorts to violence to gain compliance.

Also, smacking someone who is in hysterics to make them stop being hysterical is only a consistent technique in movies. In real life, it’s just as likely to make a child having a meltdown scream harder, because now not only are their emotions overwhelming them but they’re also in pain and feel betrayed by their parents. It would only have a hope of working if the child is actually able to control themselves and is choosing not to… but most kids having total freaking meltdowns in public are overwhelmed emotionally and don’t have control.

It takes a special kind of privileged asshole to complain about homeless people using public restrooms

Also the very concept of “restrooms are for paying customers” is classist bullshit that needs to be abolished! You shouldn’t have to pay money to be allowed to shit indoors!

Especially when shitting outdoors is illegal!

Not just illegal, but a really serious public health hazard. Shitting inside is certainly nicer than the alternative for the person doing it, but more importantly, it’s something we as a society all agreed to do so that we wouldn’t have to get cholera anymore.

never trust a doctor who admits they don’t know how to handle rarer conditions.

No, get a referral, that’s what specialists are for. You really expect every doctor to be able to handle all conditions, even rare ones?

This is what I look for. Give me a doctor who knows what they know and knows what they don’t know any day of the week. Save me from the assholes who think they know everything.

Having said that, if I call up and ask if your practice has expertise in X before I make an appointment, you damn well better be an expert in X when I walk through the door.
