Taking your pet abroad if there’s no Brexit deal

Oh my, looks like DEFRA actually has some published guidance on this, since September.

Mr. C came home a while ago pretty late from another drinks after work night: sloshed, showing some worry, and talking about going ahead and getting the cats set up with EU pet passports just in case.

Guessing there was probably some more discussion that got him thinking about it more urgently tonight, but he also said tonight that this political mess has come up in every single one-on-one conversation he’s had pretty much since the referendum vote.

(The Mr. Calm Cool and Collected act kinda breaks down when he’s been drinking, that’s for sure. Sounded like he’s been a lot more worried about the somewhat near future than he’s been letting on normally, which is honestly not that much of a surprise knowing him.)

He also brought up not being sure how best to go about moving the fish. But, by golly, if anyone is urgently hauling ass for Sweden, everyone is going! He apparently felt like this was important to emphasize 😅

So yeah, while I’m pretty concerned about what might happen with this ongoing political clusterfuck, and how I might manage with some practical details as bad as my health situation has been? If he’s feeling a need to emphasize while disinhibited that Nobody In This Household Will Be Left Behind On His Watch, Dammit–explicitly extended to fish he really doesn’t take much interest in other than the fact that I care about them?

I am at least less concerned that he’s gotten quietly fed up with my bullshit to the point that he doesn’t want to live with it anymore.

(Which is totally a product of my own jerkbrain, and nothing to do with anything he has actually said or done. Just to be clear. I am a worrier, what can I say. Though both of us avoiding conflict past the point where it’s necessarily healthy–and for similar reasons AFAICT–doesn’t always help set my mind at ease. Maybe not his either.)

TIME TO COOK UP SOME DAMN GREEN PIGS TOO THEN! 🤬🔥 for real though these fuckers better not!

Edit: This is in Scotland but jfc don’t give the United Nazi States any ideas! Also, Scottish comrades please be safe out there! 💜💜💜

It’s the UK, the Scottish government aren’t this stupid. The British government, who govern the whole UK, is.

‘don’t give the United States any ideas’ THIS IS STILL! NOT! ABOUT! YOU! NOT EVERYTHING IS ABOUT HOW IT IMPACTS AMERICA!

consider: not everything is about you. not every bad thing is related to trump. in the UK there is a concentrated victimisation of the poor, the disabled, immigrants and people of colour that our government are doing ALL ON THEIR OWN, not in response to or as a message to America. And that’s about us not about you. just like Bolsanaro’s genocidal rhetoric is a problem for people because if how it affects Brazilians, not just because he’s ‘like Trump’ or interacts with Trump. just like European nazism is a problem for the countries it pops up in, not because it ‘emboldens American nazis’. it isn’t about you, it was never about you, and it constantly feels like everybody else is able to concern themselves both with local politics and with American politics but American discourse goes ‘this is what’s happening to us, and this is how your bad thing is also happening to us’.

When I was on the Trump march in Edinburgh, we went to the pub afterwards and every time we tried to discuss the Hostile Environment raft of policies, the Americans in our group derailed to talk about American anti-immigration rhetoric and how our government persecuting immigrants was going to embolden Trump. but that wasn’t what we were talking about and British anti immigration sentiment is worth addressing on its own terms, not as an offshoot of American politics, which it isn’t. When I’ve posted on Facebook about the ongoing collapse of the UK government, I’ve had American friends comment on it saying ‘oh its like what’s happening here is spreading’.

British militarisation of the police has been happening for decades, and this article is also about the imminent collapse of our economy and infrastructure with Brexit, which has nothing to do with ‘giving Trump ideas’ (he…also doesn’t need that idea, he’s already sending armed police to gun down women and children at the border?) and has in fact been percolating since the referendum six months before Trump was elected. The reason the government is considering armed military forces in the street is because they’re afraid of riots and looting in the event of No Deal Brexit, when they expect to have to ration food and manage profound shortages across the UK if we crash out of Europe with no trade deal and no continuity of supply lines, because it will take time to both reestablish the necessary infrastructure to run a separate economy and the trade lines to bring in food and necessary supplies. This is the version of Brexit that many higher-ups in the government are agitating for, because they’re filthy rich and it won’t affect them nearly as much. This is not a signal to America or an offshoot of American issues or a product of American politics. This is the British government making plans for what they’ll do if they starve their own people out.

#Oh my god the fucking notes on this #Ayeforscotland is braver than any US marine #It is immediately obvious to people in Europe what this headline refers to #And it’s a headline in a british paper illustrated with an image of two men in British uniforms #Read the fucking International news section sometime guys! #Turns
out there are like 300 countries that are not America and not all bad
things in the world are happening specifically to you (via thedreadvampy)

And this my friends is why you fact check before you reblog something.

Lol thanks @avoidingthebinaryliketheplague it’s got an unnecessary amount of notes. Good that people are seeing it but genuinely terrible they are assuming it to be about America.

all the nonsense and bullshit in the notes aside, i am genuinely scared about what’s gonna happen after Brexit. Westminster already doesn’t give a shit about poor people or immigrants, and you can bet the most vulnerable and disenfrachised communities will bear the brunt of whatever shitshow we’re plunged into. i hope Cameron and Farage are proud of themselves.

The increase in racist abuse being thrown at poc in public, as well as the shitty treatment of immigrants, especially the Windrush generation and black immigrants in general involving them being kicked out of the country is representative of this whole Brexit mess, to be honest. Not to mention how many homeless people there are freezing in the streets now. The Tories got us into this mess and we’re just surrounded in chaos, but of course they don’t give a shit that they’re fucking everyone over. Fuck them.

an-ally-says-what:

This is scar I’ve been saying. All the Tories quitting, and the leeches waiting in the wings to take over. Like they really think it’d make a difference.

They’re not getting what they want because the EU won’t give it to them. Because the things they want are things you get from being a member of the EU. And they don’t want to be a member of the EU.

I don’t barge into a gym demanding to use the equipment and then get all pissy coz they won’t let me because of the fact that I’m not a member of the gym.

You chose to take on a bloc of 28 countries on your own. This is what happens. You’re not the empire you used to be, get used to it.

UK austerity has inflicted ‘great misery’ on citizens, UN says

cocainesocialist:

The UK government has inflicted “great misery” on its people with “punitive, mean-spirited, and often callous” austerity policies driven by a political desire to undertake social re-engineering rather than economic necessity, the United Nations poverty envoy has found.

Philip Alston, the UN’s rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, ended a two-week fact-finding mission to the UK with a stinging declaration that despite being the world’s fifth largest economy, levels of child poverty are “not just a disgrace, but a social calamity and an economic disaster”.

About 14 million people, a fifth of the population, live in poverty, and 1.5 million are destitute, unable to afford basic essentials, he said, citing figures from the Institute for Fiscal Studies and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. He highlighted predictions that child poverty could rise by 7% between 2015 and 2022, possibly up to a rate of 40%.

i’m sure the bbc will find this worthy to report on any minute now..

Britain was in breach of four UN human rights agreements relating to women, children, disabled people and economic and social rights. “If you got a group of misogynists in a room and said how can we make this system work for men and not for women they would not have come up with too many ideas that are not already in place,” he said.

Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab has just resigned.

Northern Ireland minister has just resigned.

Mental.

Whoever the fuck this is just resigned.

Esther McVey, Secretary of State for work and pensions has just resigned.

Looks like these are being timed hourly to build momentum. It could be to leverage a leadership challenge.

Currency has taken a bit of a tumble.

Some random Brexit Minister has resigned. (This is *a* Brexit Minister, Dominic Raab has already resigned as Brexit Secretary)

Ranil Jayawardena, someone who *absolutely everyone* knew existed, as just turned over a serious resignation that will shake this government to the very core.

Or not.

What I find inherently funny is that these idiots (And they are indeed idiots) thought that the UK would come out on top of any Brexit deal. Brexit was and is a stupid fucking idea pushed by extremists and built on lies perpetuated by Russia. They have been presented irrefutable evidence of this, and still push an agenda that less than forty percent of the adult voting eligible citizens voted upon, and that what the majority of those people have changed their minds on because they’ve learned they’ve been lied to. No matter what happens, if they keep pursuing a Brexit deal, people can and will die because of it. Companies are fleeing the UK at an ever accelerating rate because of it, which is the exact opposite of what the Brexiters said would happen, they knew this was a lie even back then. People *are* going to riot because of Brexit if it goes through, and people *will* die because of it.
