Blessed relief! In a couple of days, we have indeed gone from this to “after putting on (admittedly light) long pants to pop out and buy cat food in the rain, I don’t feel any pressing need to change back out of them 🤔”

It’s still pretty warm, but more usual British summer warm(ish). Right now it’s apparently 14C/57F outside after 8 p.m., not at least twice that in Celsius.

clatterbane:

Just waiting for storms to really hit and the heat to break again *fingers crossed*

It’s a little less miserable already here, down to about 80F in a humid, keeps sprinkling kind of way. The inside of the house is still hotter, of course, but hopefully not for too long.

No idea if this is another temporary reprieve, but I’ll be glad to sleep better again regardless.

Meanwhile, Mr. C is spending the week in a tent somewhere in Wales. Not sure if he’d be quite so glad to see thunderstorms. Might make that fencing event more exciting 🙄

I put off going up the street for some groceries until basically the last minute, hoping it would cool off a little out there.

And it did…pretty much as soon as I got away from our walled patio that’s been baking in the sun all afternoon 🙄

I’m kind of impressed that it’s only taken a few days this time for the inside of the house to get that much hotter than outside, tbh. Noticeable difference getting out onto the patio with the breeze now, at least. Shame we still haven’t gotten a table set up out there.

Maybe the best thing about the weather change today: It’s been not just cooler, but pretty windy. Enough to get some decent ventilation through the silly little top-opening portion of the bedroom window!

(With no cross-ventilation in there at all. A few times I actually resorted to opening the front door and rigging up a fan to try to force some cooler night air through the sweatbox, but nope. Not much luck.)

The wind has gotten it cooled down enough in there, just today, that sleeping should be so much easier. The bedroom was hovering just over 30C/86F for at least the past week, but right now it’s down to 22C/72F 😃😪

Without the wind, that could have taken a week. From past experience. Even if it heats right up again later into the week, I’m definitely relieved to get some better sleeping conditions at all after weeks.

Yay, thunderstorms! ⛈

It was actually 34C/93F here again until a little while ago. Definitely starting to feel a little relief outside now that some rain has started up. (Not so much inside the house yet, but hey.)

If the forecast holds, tomorrow will probably feel just plain chilly by comparison to the past month or so. But, not about to complain.

The hottest day so far here, with tomorrow supposed to be about the same 😖

At least it should hopefully cool down a little more overnight, not that it’s noticeable in the bedroom with no cross ventilation.

This isn’t the hottest I’ve ever seen it get here. But, it seems to be trying.

(I was actually visiting Mr. C just in time for the 2003 heatwave, with still-record temperatures. Got over 100F here in the SE, with the usual island humidity. At least now we have some fans in the house. He didn’t before, and–surprise!–everywhere we tried had sold totally out. Coming to badly set up for heat London straight from a Virginia summer, I did get heat exhaustion more than once. Trying to push through when we were out places and make a better impression, of course 🙄)

Not quite there now, but I am not going in the sun if I can help it at all today.
