of all the things i expected to read in the news today, hobby lobby being busted for smuggling 5,500 ancient mesopotamian artifacts including cuneiform tablets and clay talismans into the united states was not one of them

an arts n crafts superstore chain has been illegally smuggling ancient biblical relics LIKE THIS

out of the UAE, in falsely labelled packages delivered to some hobby lobby stores in oklahoma.

So hobby lobby indirectly funded Daesh??

Considering its militant Christian leadership, wouldn’t be surprised.

😳

Actually, my Mamaw apparently started out as a Margie on paper. Then she got hold of a teacher in like 2nd grade who insisted that tacky nicknames would not be tolerated in her classroom, and her name must properly be Marjorie. (Never mind what was on the actual rolls.)

She had no real reason to doubt that, and kept using Marjorie for official purposes from then on.

So, eventually she needed to apply for a passport (I think it was)–and found that her documents didn’t match up! Apparently the easiest way to get that sorted out was a legal name change to make it match.

So yeah, this one snotty teacher managed to cause more than a little unnecessary hassle and expense probably 20 years down the road. By insisting she knew what other people’s names were better than they did.

heres a radical idea, teenagers still deserve a fucking livable wage when they’re doing the same goddamn job an adult is. this idea that “teenagers first jobs” should be paid down and less meaningful is

1) completely fucking fabricated and

2) completely fucking ignores the fact that many teenagers NEED INCOME TO SURVIVE they’re living on their own, they’re going to college, they’re helping support their families

AND REGARDLESS OF ALL OF THAT… They’re still doing the same fucking work as an adult, they’re still putting their time and effort into a service our society requires at the moment to function you worthless fucking assholes disagreeing with me on this.

they deserve livable wages shut the fuck up and get the fuck away from me with this bullshit.

literally fuck yourselves.

“Student minimum wage” is also bullshit because it allows a place to hire a ton of kids under 18 and not have to pay them properly on top of not having to give any form of benefits and let’s face it so they can ignore current employee standards because kids don’t know their rights as well.

Student minimum wage in the UK is:
-18-20y/os : £5.30/hr
-21+ : £6.70/hr

National minimum wage (or living wage??? Im unsure. There’s a lot of obfuscation) is
– £4.05/hr for under 18s
– £5.60/hr for 18-20y/os
– £7.05/hr for 21-24y/os
– £7.50/hr for 25+

So not only are they saying that it would be better off if you weren’t a student (which is bs cause how tf does being a student impact anything at all except the fact that I probably work less hours), they’re also saying fuck you to anyone under 25, because somehow our worth is different even though we’re doing the same minimum wage jobs?

AND IF YOU’RE AN APPRENTICE, then you’re worth even less apparently (£3.50/hr if you’re under 19) cause even though you’re actively learning something important and probably doing just as much work as someone fully employed, you should be grateful that you even have a job, right???

If I had been on the 18-20 wage last year I wouldn’t have been able to live. Luckily my place pays me more than the 21-24 minimum wage but still. It’s fucked up.

You’re an Indian giver in the way you love: Everything you give, you take away.

What is an Indian giver?

A person who gives something and than wants it back.

what did the Indians want back?

More specifically, the term “Indian giver” arose from a series of incidents in which European colonists would borrow food and supplies from the local First Nations, then turn around and go “oh, we thought it was a gift” when the locals later tried to collect on the loan.

Modern history books like to bang on about “cultural misunderstandings”, but if you look at contemporary records, it’s clear that there was no misunderstanding – the colonists totally understood that they were being extended a loan, and simply didn’t want to pay it back.

The myth that Native Americans liked to swindle people by giving them gifts and later claiming that the gift had actually been a loan – hence, “Indian giver” – thus developed in order to retroactively justify the colonists stiffing the locals when those loans came due.

(In the interest of clarity, interest-bearing loans were not commonly practiced by North America’s First Nations at the time, though they did exist among some groups; in this context, the term “loan” simply means “I give you something you need right now, and you give me back something of equal value at some specified or unspecified future date”.)

Unceasing reblog.

Per usual things white people made up.

It’s worth noting that reciprocity is a common enough practise in many cultures – the unspoken notion that any goods or service given deserves a return of equal value later, with or without interest – but white people are one of the few cultures notorious for hiding behind the combined of a) not knowing enough about other cultures that they didn’t pick up on this in the instances where it was just a benevolent misunderstand (which, in this case, it most definitely was not) and b) have maintained a state of oppression and systemic authority that they can practically respond to getting called out with ‘what are you gonna do about it?’

the worst memories of being bullied is when ppl would pretend not to be bullying you and ask you questions and u thought they were just asking u stuff but they were actually laughing at you the entire time and u had no idea bcos you were young and you didnt understand why people would be mean to you when you didnt do anything wrong.

I spent a lot of my childhood in a constant state of “this is a trap but I don’t know how”

This stayed with me. Sometimes when people are nice to me, I still think they have bad intentions.

then when you didn’t believe them when they were serious they would get mad at you

ALL OF THIS

This coupled with being bullied a lot from afar, like ppl constantly laughing at you down the hall or from outside a classroom so now whenever you hear someone laughing in the distance you think it’s at you.

do most american world maps seriously have america in the centre?

WE DO HAHAHAHA

Are you fucking kidding me.

In Chinese maps, Asia is in the center. Which nation is centralized depends on the map’s origins.

In Canada, our maps are cut through the Pacific, so we don’t offend anyone.

sometimes i feel like canadian stereotypes go too far and then this happens

Australian maps are upside down so Australia is above everyone else

you think this is a joke

are you fucking serious

What? I live im America & I don’t think I’ve ever seen a map like that before this. Most world maps I’ve seen are either cut at the Prime Meridian or they have Europe at their center.

Oh

All sports are gay and I’ve been preaching this forever

fun fact: the media keeps trying to imply that diego costa (white jersey) bit gareth barry (blue jersey) out of some sort of hetero football-rage during the game but barry insists it wasn’t a bite which is apparently a hard concept for the football association to grasp cause they cant think of any other explaination for the above image lmao

That ain’t no bite

I think my favorite part of this gif is the third guy walking by in the background, who judging by his expression is pretty sure he’s just won the league-wide betting pool on when these dudes will finally break down and admit their love.

romeo and juliet who? west side story who? come thru gareth and diego
