One ridiculous side effect of my legs skinnying up enough that my thighs don’t meet even sitting with my knees clamped together: dropping stuff!

As I was just reminded again, I had better not try to set anything smallish on my lap temporarily, or it’s liable to make a floor escape through the Lap Crack. Including paperbacks thinner than The Stand and my phone, often as not. One other favorite: scissors you want to use again very shortly!

Bonus: when it hurts to pick the crap back up out of the floor.

Yet I keep forgetting and automatically doing this anyway 🙄 Because of course I do.

Seriously though, the main reason I haven’t dyed my hair at all in over a year now is the level of hassle rinsing/ washing it out properly without staining everything has turned into around here. Between the lingering shoulder BS and the (yes continuing) shower thing.

Going to have to figure out some sort of workaround, short of getting a salon to do it, because jfc. I know getting some color in my hair would make me feel more like me.

(Not looking for suggestions, just venting!)

Just had to think again, after finding myself ranting about things that happened when I was in high school all these years later. And realizing again just how messed up some of my mother’s behavior and expectations really were sometimes.

Gee, maybe one contributing factor might be that I couldn’t talk about things that were bothering me at the time? Or really even safely express that things did bother me? So come back decades later, and some of this stuff still feels fresh whenever it’s brought to mind again.

And yes, that would be with too many years of the kind of forced/coerced therapy aimed at fixing you where you’re not really the client. (Some more earlier discussion of conflicts of interest there.) Making the whole thing at least 20x worse.

No damned wonder I had a lot of spectacular meltdowns for a while there, until I learned to turn them into shutdowns for my own protection. (Including to avoid getting locked up some more. That looked pretty crazy on its own, but at least being quieter about it is less likely to get you locked up IME. Definitely dealing with my mother.)

But yeah, this is another of those things where I’m not even primarily pissed off on my own behalf. Even though keeping dealing with delayed fallout isn’t much fun.

That basic situation is unfortunately far from unusual for people growing up. Especially ND/disabled people. And nobody should be placed in that sort of position. It’s very disturbing how often this does seem to happen.

I forgot to add earlier, with the missing California-only exhaust thing helping fail that car on inspection?

We were on the other side of the country, and you couldn’t have bought the car new with a smog pump equipped without going to California to do it. It wasn’t required in other states when the car was new, and somebody had just removed it and reconnected the system without it at some point. Probably for improved performance, considering the state of the art at that point in time. It wasn’t like there was a leaking gap in the exhaust system or anything, and to my understanding that should have been totally fine in our state. Where it never came with that emissions device.

Which apparently didn’t matter to the guy at New Garage doing the inspection, since it originally came with one installed 🙄 At least he was thorough looking things over!

Just a not very relevant nitpicky point, but I was reminded of that little extra aggravation too.

I was not too happy with the guy at New Garage, and wouldn’t want him inspecting my car again even now that I could afford a newer/better one. But, at least he was not a creepy suspected child predator that I ever heard of 😬

clatterbane:

That last backup reminder did at least prompt me to go ahead and try to find out what’s going on with my apparently stalled WordPress import. (Of this pretty large blog. The two much smaller sideblogs did finish OK, to their own separate sites.)

But yeah, they’re still pretty overloaded checking the support forums a little while ago. Lots of queries about apparently stalled imports from here. A lot of which are just still queued.

Tumblr imports: Long delays (from the day mine stalled, incidentally)

I did end up splurging on a space upgrade out of stubbornness, so I could have used the premium support. But, I really hate live chats. I guess that’s still an option if posting to the support forum doesn’t get a response before too long.

I wish I had gone ahead and run a Python script backup before the 17th, but that probably requires getting Mr. C to do it since I don’t have a working computer right now. (Or admin status on his laptop that I use sometimes, in case it needs the relevant version of Python or whatever. Easier just to get the household professional geek to mess with it anyway, honestly.)

Should probably do that ASAP anyway, hassle or not, especially since my confidence in WordPress imports is not that high atm.

I also really should get another working laptop of my own, cheap or not. But that’s another issue.

Points to their support team, at least. It only took about an hour to get a response. Pleasant surprise.

The importer is now running again. *fingers crossed*

I don’t know which, if any, posts have gotten flagged here. This blog is definitely not marked as Unclean.

But, I couldn’t help but notice that the search is even more messed up than usual. Including posts not showing up through a Google search, when they should from past experience.

More ouch from that survey:

The survey found 70% of respondents who needed prompting in order to eat had missed meals because they did not get this support and 86% said they had not washed for the same reason.

Nearly two thirds of those surveyed needed prompting to help them wash, dress or feed themselves.

So I was automatically thinking, “maybe I’m not doing too badly, then”. Never mind that Mr. C was offering to call and remind me to eat during the day when I was having a particularly rough time for a while there 🙄

(His own lousy executive function and all, but that’s another story. He was certainly willing to try.)
