Of course you don’t. Free college might hinder the school-to-prison pipeline your  prison owning donors depend on

welp;

Actual quote, in context:

“I believe that we should make community college free. We should have debt-free college if you got to a public college or university. You should not have to borrow a dime to pay tuition… I disagree with free college for everybody. I don’t think taxpayers should be paying to send Donald Trump’s kids to college.“

Don’t spread misinformation just to fit a narrative, Clinton is advocating for there to be a cap on who gets free college so that the government doesn’t have to subsidize the education of people with enough disposable income to pay for it themselves. The plan she’s proposing would have a better chance of being passed, is more cost-effective, and still opens up higher education to low-income individuals who previously couldn’t afford it.

the op lagonegirl literally ended up being a russian psyop im losing my mind

Reblogging this as an example of what the Russian interference here on tumblr was. I have seen some people in the past days casting doubts on Tumblr because the blogs that were banned had social justice content.

But that was the point exactly. They posted some real things and a lot of half-truths that would appeal to the kind of politics on here and therefore spread disinformation to discourage us from participating in stopping Trump through the only option we had. I’m glad tumblr left these posts up so we could see for ourselves.

I don’t know if it actually worked on anyone, I hope we all remember to check our sources before making our decisions, but life is short and maybe some people didn’t.  There are plenty of real social justice blogs available still, so I hope we will follow those instead.

It had been a while since I’d had to block some rando who felt a need to reblog someone else’s (low notes in this case 🤔) post from me, just to add a shitty comment.

Of course that couldn’t last indefinitely. Of course.

TIL Cursing while on the telephone with someone is a Class 1 Misdemeanor in the State of Virginia

via reddit.com

Any person who uses obscene, vulgar, profane, lewd, lascivious, or indecent language, or makes any suggestion or proposal of an obscene nature, or threatens any illegal or immoral act with the intent to coerce, intimidate, or harass any person, over any telephone or citizens band radio, in this Commonwealth, is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.

(From the relevant Code of Virginia section.)

Does this cover instant messaging on a smartphone

Yep, looks like they’ve kept up there.

(”Over any telephone” includes, for purposes of this section, any electronically transmitted communication producing a visual or electronic message that is received or transmitted by cellular telephone or other wireless telecommunications device.)

so hrrrm my question would be around how they’re defining intent and how this is actually playing out in cases? like, prima facie looks good, but seems disturbingly susceptible to weaponization by the abusive party, who is less likely to be scrupulous about deploying the law to their advantage, more likely to be skilled at psychological manipulation, etc

Yeah, that would definitely be a concern. I really don’t know how that has been playing out in practice.

Guys, why would you choose the weird phone harassment statute when the virginia code also currently makes it illegal to swear in public? O.o

§ 18.2-388. Profane swearing and intoxication in public; penalty; transportation of public inebriates to detoxification center.

If any person profanely curses or swears or is intoxicated in public, whether such intoxication results from alcohol, narcotic drug or other intoxicant or drug of whatever nature, he shall be deemed guilty of a Class 4 misdemeanor. In any area in which there is located a court-approved detoxification center a law-enforcement officer may authorize the transportation, by police or otherwise, of public inebriates to such detoxification center in lieu of arrest; however, no person shall be involuntarily detained in such center.

Technically you can be fined $250 for this.

There’s a bill to fix this again this year. It’s gone nowhere.

Multiple courts have weighed in and found this unconstitutional in certain settings, but it’s still technically on the books.
