Trump’s demands for loyalty have left 48 top Pentagon jobs vacant

  • Trump’s concerns over the personal loyalty of potential appointees, as well as business entanglements and reluctance by some to join a scandal-ridden administration, have resulted in a slow process to fill top slots at the Pentagon, with just five of 53 spots currently filled.
  • McClatchy DC reported on Monday that officials at the Pentagon like Christine Wormuth, the former head of policy at the agency under Barack Obama, said even minor public criticism of the president, like negative social media posts, is now viewed as disqualifying.
  • The problem isn’t delays in the Senate, whose approval is required to confirm appointments, but in securing qualified candidates without any major issues. Read more (6/6/17)

Trump is reportedly growing increasingly frustrated with Sessions-led DOJ

  • Less than five months in, Trump may have soured on his pick for attorney general, Jeff Sessions, according to the New York Times
  • Citing anonymous sources close to Trump, the Times reported that Trump blames Sessions for many of the White House’s ongoing troubles.
  • The Times pointed to several of Trump’s tweets from early Monday, which seemed to suggest a worsening relationship with the DOJ
  • Trump is also reportedly upset with Sessions over his recusal from investigations into the alleged Russian hacking of the November election.
  •  Sessions’ recusal paved the way for the appointment of a special counsel, former FBI Director Robert Mueller, to helm the investigation.
  • According to the Times, Trump felt “blindsided” by Sessions’ recusal decision and “unleashed his fury” on Oval Office aides after receiving the news. Read more (6/6/17)

Minimum wages and taxes in Denmark

gobetti-random:

thehumon:

I’m seeing a lot of people talking about minimum wages in the US and using Denmark as a comparison, but I haven’t seen anyone explain how it actually works here in Denmark, so I’ll try to explain:

In Denmark only teenagers are paid less than 16.63 usd in an hour. That means 2495.16 usd a month.

You can earn 6803.96 usd tax free in a year. That money is your’s, no one can touch it. That is 567.03 a month.

That leaves 1928.17 usd that will be taxed. The lowest tax in Denmark is 38% (rich people pay 55%), leaving you with 1195.43.

1195.43 + 567.03 (the tax free money) = 1762.46 usd monthly pay.

Mind you, the cost of living is also a lot higher in Denmark, but you can get by on 453.52 usd a month just fine (after you’ve paid taxes and rent) if you don’t have children. For example, I live well below the Danish “poverty line” but I’m not complaining. I’m doing fine.

There’s also public transportation almost everywhere so you’re not required to have a car. There’s no stigmatization connected with using public transportation except the hassle of it.

38% tax seems like a lot, but the government is very transparent so it’s no mystery what the money are used for. Public healthcare, elder care, education (Danes are paid to take most educations) and so on.

I won’t deny that to be okay with the high taxes it is important to want to help your fellow man and remember that other people are also helping you. It is thanks to the high taxes that our society is so equal, gives everybody a chance to educate themselves and provides us with a safety net in case we lose everything so we won’t end up on the street. It is essential to remember that.

Hope that helped a bit with the comparison. 🙂

this shows what I’ve seen and
heard from other people in Europe, like Sweden: taxes are HIGH AS FUCK, but
overall the citizens don’t mind paying because 1) the money you make getting
paid the minimum wage is more than enough for living decently and then having
spare for things like owning a car, eating out every now and then, buyijg new
clothes, taking the family out on vacations, etc. and 2) THE TAXES ARE BEING
PROPERLY USED. the goverment is transparents and it’s glaringly obvious that
you’re helping the community by paying taxes, AS IT SHOULD BE. the money
doesn’t get taken away by the politicians and leave the country to its own
luck, with schools falling apart, hospitals with no air conditioning or enough
working equipment, like it happens here in Brazil.

we wouldn’t mind paying taxes if we made enough money to live
decently instead of just survive, and if 90% of all tax money wasn’t diverted
to the pockets of the rich who just want to get richer no matter who ends up
dying because of it.
