a few people (usually at gas stations, noting my hail destroyed car) have asked, “why do you storm chase” and the only good answer I have is “why don’t you?”
it’s true I’m not a classical storm chaser. I tend to entirely different areas of the storm than most do (the part that still has some light if possible) and really, I’m a photographer chasing a photo more than a storm chaser but I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t want to scream across the prairie after some monster so big and alive you can hardly take it all in (even at 15mm). the complexity, drama, violence and power make almost anything possible. I’ve seen things that took my breath away, and cowered in my car praying my glass would hold and that nothing terribly nasty was living in that shroud of rain that pinned me to where I was.
I’ve wasted entire days on hope.
I hope that storm can organize itself despite all the science saying it can’t. I hope I can get to this spot on the map before it does. I hope the light holds. or the road hasn’t heaved too bad this winter.
every year i commit myself to only chase the big bad boys that have structure, and form, and the rare magic of a fully formed super cell and every year I find myself rolling across the gravel roads after some pulse storm that maybe, just maybe has something pretty in it.
so entering year three of really learning and chasing more seriously my answer would be, why aren’t you out there, living and dying with the gust fronts and hail cores and living creatures sucking up the prairie moist. really. why?
And I refuse to ask for money because of internalized issues that make is impossible for me to request help no matter how much I need it. So I’m going to try and earn money. But since I can’t do the usual thing which is drawing the only thing I have is jewery. Specifically wrap style bracelets. The following are a few examples
These are the oldest two I have. They’re not very good but give you an idea of the design. These are double wraps so they go around your wrist twice. The one on the right is faceted Citrine and non-faceted Aventurine. On the left is what I believe is Turquoise and maybe a Red Jasper and silver toned spacers. I can’t recall it’s been years since I made these. These beads are very small, 4mm I believe.
The first triple wrap I made, it’s very bulky, the stones being 8mm. The cord is leather and the meta spacers are simple pewter. The stones are Aqua Terra Imperial Jasper and something that looks like but isn’t Larimer. I suspect a dyed howlite or the likes.
One of the two most recent ones I made, you can see I’ve gotten better. Malachite, Red Jasper, Lapis Lazuli and Onyx with silver toned spacers. Also a triple wrap. The beads are all 6mm rounds
This one was made for a friend and was something I’d never tried before, different shaped beads working together. It did turn out pretty well for something I’d never done before but I can’t swear to the size of the beads. But it’s made of three different shaped garnet beads and unakite bars. It’s also a triple wrap.
A comparison shot of the size of bead.
The above are not actually for sale. These are custom made and sized for my wrist and as such won’t fit anyone else. I am, however, looking to make some for others who want some. They won’t be cheap as materials aren’t inexpensive but it’s something I actually enjoy doing and I’m hoping to make just enough money off of them to say I’m making SOMETHING.
Pricing
The bracelets will be priced according to how many wraps as each time around is essentially enough material to make another bracelet.
Single wrap – $30
Double wrap – $40
Triple wrap – $50
I’m only really charging for materials here as my time isn’t worth a whole lot to me and I’m going to be sucking up the cost of shipping. Remember my prices are all in Canadian as well so if you’re american then you’re getting a deal. As well, I may give you a deal if you pick from the list of materials I currently have on hand as opposed to something I need to go out and acquire

Peoplefriends with cars are THE BEST. Forest walks are THE BEST. Puddles are THE BEST. Giant sticks are THE BESTEST
Waterhole 1.
Right at the start of the walk, so BEST because convenient. Could dive in straight away before I got hot. Not very deep though and no good sticks. 3 stars.
Peoplefriends called me away before I could grab the nice straight stick an old man was walking around with. Found a better stick not far from there though. BEST STICK.
Waterhole 2:
Middle of the walk, and this one is always full so I zoom ahead long before the peoplefriends get there so I have extra swimming time. It wasn’t as full as last time but still, nice and big, BEST mudding properties, a good cool place to stop and play with BEST STICK. 4 stars.
Waterhole 3 THE BEST PUDDLE – 5 stars
HUGE and there was an EVEN BETTER BEST STICK
The REALLY EXCELLENT BEST STICK
In conclusion: BEST DAY EVER
Laughing so hard in public my eyes are tearing up.
DOGGY!
finally a stick and mud critic my days of subpar mud wallowing are over
woke up and thought someone was trying to break into my house but it’s just this fucking peacock sitting on my AC unit because nothing in New Orleans makes sense. he’s letting me scratch his chin and we’re friends now
People who perform manual labor should be not only given high and liveable wages, but unlimited access to healthcare and physical therapy to help manage the myriad conditions that come from doing back-breaking work.
Like this is not an absurd concept. It bothers me that people think that it is.
