people shouldn’t have to pimp themselves off to the military to afford college wtf

They don’t…lol

actually almost every teacher i’ve ever had has suggested joining the military because they’ll pay for college and almost half of my class is either doing it or considering it but i hope that rock you live under has air conditioning

this literally why my grandfather, cousin, and father-in-law joined the military.

Something that was taught to me in my Native studies class: the military also targets people of color for recruitment by going to more diverse, usually lower funded high schools. As written in The Militarization of Indian Country by Winona LaDuke;

“Today, Native peoples have the highest rates of enlistment of any ethnic group in the United States. In some Native communities, in a single graduating class over half of the graduates will be military-bound. Many youth, both reservation-based and urban, see no options outside the military to secure an economically stable future.”

“An estimated 22 percent of Native Americans 18 or older are veterans.”

According to this, 7.3% of white veterans are between 17 and 34 years of age (aka those most likely to be joining up to cover college expenses), while every other ethnic group fairly outstripped white veterans, some more than double the amount.

Something else to notice is that enrollment in the South is much higher than in the North-East. The article where I pulled this information from makes the argument that patriotism is higher in the South than in the North, but I don’t necessarily agree it’s the only reason for the difference. The South is much poorer than the North. The graph they present also lumps together those who make 65k a year with those who make almost 250k a year; I would argue that these are very different income levels, and cannot be put into one category while observing enlistment levels, particularly while thinking about college expenses.

tl;dr: The military targets those who do not have a guaranteed economically stable future, which includes minorities across ethnic and economic lines, and promises college for service.

I could go on in discussing how this is an act of violence towards ethnic and racial minorities, but I think this is enough for the moment.

The callout culture on this site is way too toxic. Like, honestly, people on here will fabricate some kind of accusation on a person, and then all you gotta do is tell someone on anon that a person is problematic, then they’ll start rehashing and sharing that shit. It’s so horrible, and leads to these witch hunts which can ruin people’s lives. Remember the xkit guy, who, for free, made this site not shit? and then someone said he MIGHT be a pedophile, and then he just kept getting all this hate, and people were dogpiling him, and he quit this site, and development of xkit? that wasn’t that long ago, and now y’all are doing this same shit to thomas sanders, because he’s almost (?) 30, and you think it’s ~creepy~ how he makes videos and vines aimed at a younger audience.

Genuinely, everyone going after thomas sanders, you should be ashamed of yourself. He has done nothing wrong, and when he has, he has apologized, and quickly tried to make it better. There is nothing wrong with this man, and still people are treating him like shit. Like what the fuck?

People who think adults aren’t “allowed” to make any kind of content/entertainment for a younger audience are in for a RUDE ass awakening about their entire childhood.

tbh….. the creator of spongebob is GROOMING kids………..

idk abt u guys but…that lady that voice acts Timmy Turner gives off HUGE pedo vibes uwu…

Wait until they find out Barney isn’t a real dinosaur

I got some real ass tea for y’all
Maurice Sendak…. Ain’t like kids and he wrote all the good shit

To be fair I’ve seen it argued on tunglr.hell that teachers and parents who provide age-appropriate sex education to children are pervy pedos trying to groom kids, so why am I surprised

Huh??????

So on top of having medical bills out my ears, I also don’t have a place to stay at the moment. So really anything helps! Especially since I can’t move back into my apartment for another month or so!

I’m still dealing with breathing issues to the point where I’m periodically wearing a face mask to get through the day. I’m literally worried that at some point I might not be able to take a puff out of my inhaler and suffocate to death as a result.

New Map Reveals Ships Buried Below San Francisco

archaeologicalnews:

Every day thousands of passengers on underground streetcars in San Francisco pass through the hull of a 19th-century ship without knowing it. Likewise, thousands of pedestrians walk unawares over dozens of old ships buried beneath the streets of the city’s financial district. The vessels brought eager prospectors to San Francisco during the California Gold Rush, only to be mostly abandoned and later covered up by landfill as the city grew like crazy in the late 1800s.

Now, the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park has created a new map of these buried ships, adding several fascinating discoveries made by archaeologists since the first buried-ships map was issued, in 1963.

It’s hard to imagine now, but the area at the foot of Market Street, on the city’s eastern flank, was once a shallow body of water called Yerba Buena Cove, says Richard Everett, the park’s curator of exhibits. Read more.
