birds are not as they appear online.

marchthetiel:

March is adorable and id do anything for him. this is true. but besides how cute he is, this is only half of it! Birds are loud. Even for his tiny size, you can hear him screaming across the house. Birds are also extremely smart. while this is a good thing, it can also be annoying. Theyll figure out ways to trick you and do things they arent supposed to. they’ll chew your things- important documents, furniture, even you. theyre messy- i sweep 3 times a day with just one cockatiel. They are like toddlers. they will have days where they scream and scream and bite and hiss and wont listen to anything you say. You can’t just leave them in their cage, expect them to be quiet when you want them to, then take them out and have them sing a song perfectly. you need to spend a lot of time with them.

I’m not trying to discourage anyone from getting a bird- i just am saying that you have to know what to expect. yes birds are cute, but don’t go out and get one because you see a cute video online. someone worked with that bird for hours teaching it that song or trick. the video is just capturing a small moment in time. adopt a feathered friend. they make great companions as long as you have the time and patience to work with them.

Weirdest robocall in a while, which I even ran from the bathroom to answer because I thought it might have something to do with that plant delivery:

*dead line with that distinctive hum*
*dead line*
“Hello? Hellooo?!”
*DING* robo “Goodbye!”
*click*

Whatever that was, at least it hasn’t tried back yet. Goodbye! 😱

I would try to get some more sleep, but I’m currently waiting for a box of aquarium plants to show up.

On the plus side, plants! On the not so plus side, dealing with them after they’re delivered instead of naptime.

beep beep

What is that!

mim its a lighting bug or whatever they light up

WHAAAAAAT THATS SO COOL HOW DOES HE  DO THAT! ITS JUST A BUG BUT IT LIGHTS UP

it had never even occurred to my that there were parts of this planet where lightning bugs are not indigenous

It’s called bioluminescence, and it basically works on the same principle as glow sticks, but with biologically produced proteins and enzymes, instead of lab produced chemicals.

In this particular case, lightning bugs  (aka fireflies) use it to communicate between males and females during mating season – sorta like a visual Morse code.

Against All Odds: Activist Gauri Sawant Has Been Fighting For Transgender Rights All Her Life

“Don’t label a mother as a woman: a gender can’t decide motherhood.” –  Gauri Sawant

Gauri Sawant, who is a transgender activist, is inspiring society to accept transgender people. She is also planning to start a home for sex workers’ children to stop them from being sold and pushed into prostitution. Her journey consists of struggles, challenges, and difficulties. Her story impacts thousands of people to accept their gender, respect the LGBTQ community, and welcome them into the mainstream.

Some of her accomplishments include:

  • In 2000, she founded the Sakhi Char Chowghi Trust to promote safe sex and provide counselling to trans people. She encouraged trans people to live a more meaningful life.
  • For 16 years, she fought for the rights of the five lakh trans people in India.
  • She was one of the pioneers behind the Supreme Court judgment that recognised transgender as the third sex.
  • In 2008, Gauri adopted five-year-old Gayatri, whose mother was HIV-infected, to save her from being sold into the infamous red light area of Sonagachi, Kolkata.

  • In 2014, she became the first trans person to file a petition with the Supreme Court for transgender rights of marriage and adoption.
  • She is also trying to appoint trans people as security persons outside the gate of Siddhivinayak temple.

This is a recent ad in India made by Vicks (a pharmaceutical brand that mainly makes cold medicine), starring Gauri, based on her real life story and directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, famous for directing Masaan. It is iconic and groundbreaking for personalizing and normalizing trans motherhood in mainstream Indian media.

I’ve cried everytime I watched this
