These Muslim women are using their hijabs to transform into superheroes.

It’s called hijab cosplay, inspired by Japanese costume role-play and it’s making waves in Muslim-majority Malaysia.

Nuzaru is one of a growing number of hijab wearers embracing this world of comics, film and video game characters.

She spends weeks planning her costumes.

Today Nuzaru is competing at Malaysia’s first event dedicated to hijab cosplay.

Saakira co-founded the event.

Hundreds are here to watch acts and learn tips from cosplay pros.

Nuzaru’s hard work pays off as she nabs top prize.

I might have softly screamed when I saw the Korra cosplayer.

It’s bullshit… he literally admitted to drugging women so he can take advantage of them but of course that wasn’t enough for the jury to throw him in prison. And people have the audacity to ridicule the other woman for not pressing charges,…… THIS IS WHY. BECAUSE HE’S GONNA GET AWAY WITH IT.

The High Existence rhetoric that ignores all context and circumstance. This shit is really gross. Yes, there are mindsets and techniques people can develop in any circumstance that can potentially make them happier and more adaptable, but to ignore the structural realities that keep people pushed down, that keep us locked in competition with each other, that keep us wishing for a better life after we die, that keep us perpetually stressed – to shut out those realities is to live in willfully-ignorant idealism. Not everyone can “just make their reality better”. Stop blaming the individual and take a step back to see the real pattern – it’s capitalism that stresses us, alienates us, and subordinates us.

So apparently last year the National Park Service in the US dropped an over 1200 page study of LGBTQ American History as part of their Who We Are program which includes studies on African-American history, Latino history, and Indigenous history. 

Like. This is awesome. But also it feels very surreal that maybe one of the most comprehensive examinations of LGBTQ history in America (it covers sports! art! race! historical sites! health! cities!) was just casually done by the parks service.
