people always talk about edgy 13 year olds saying they have a mental illness to look cool as if that started with tumblr but like.. they’ve always done that…… they’ve literally always done shit like that. and overall increased access to mental health resources is an overwhelmingly good thing. plus if someone’s pretending to have an illness for attention they could probably use those resources anyways

the idea of the “teenager who lies about mental illness for attention” is essentially entirely a myth. i’m absolutely aware there are kids who say they have schizophrenia when they don’t, but i think them doing that is a lot more complicated than “they want to look cool online”. it’s often them recognizing the onset of mental illness of some kind and processing it through the only lens they have, which is media portrayals.

and behaviour like that CAN often be a “cry for attention”, but that’s something that needs to be taken seriously. people discredit a lot of things young people do (especially self destructive behaviours or self harm itself) as being something they’re just doing for attention, but that’s ridiculous because someone being in a situation where they need help enough they’re willing to hurt themselves to get it IS a real problem. attention seeking behaviour is a symptom.

it’s really surreal to see people act like this because like I’m 28. You know what was in when I was 14 and getting online? Emo.

lol this being new. Oh no people aren’t going to therapy? They used to promote self harm
back when I was a teen thank god that shit never worked for me but
plenty of friends got frequently triggered because it was the hot edgy
thing but thankfully I don’t see that much anymore.

this could be worse. Like, a lot worse.

I find this theme even weirder in a lot of ways, after growing up during the “Institutionalized” Era.

It just seems like too many people will pull any reason they can out of their asses to dismiss and dehumanize kids. (See also: “glorifying mental illness”.)

Endler fry at 4 days

By now, they’re mostly hanging around out in the open with the bigger fish. So far I’ve counted 10 at the same time. They seem to be growing well, so I guess they’re getting enough to eat.

From just a little while ago, coming up on 5 days I think. I was going by the dates shown on YouTube, but it doesn’t show the time of day for uploads.

Also, I have no idea why, but about the first 30 seconds is worse quality again. I tried redoing the upload to see if that would fix it, but nope. The original video isn’t like that, and this has happened a couple of times recently.

This our library here in Spring, Texas, in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. When I think of people who have lost everything, I hate how sad I feel about a library. But this is where I’ve taken my kids for story time since they were infants. It’s where I’ve met my closest mom friends. It’s a place that means the world to me.
But beyond that, this is a place that my community needs. It offers free educational programming, resources, information, language classes, Internet, human connection, a place that is clean and safe, free lunches for kids in the summer when school is out. It’s not just a bunch of books. For some people, the library is their only access to these things.

You can donate to the Texas Library Association’s disaster recovery fund here:

This may not be as pressing a need as shelter and food right now, but in the coming future, libraries will be critical centers of information-sharing to their communities.  They will help people connect to all the resources they need to rebuild their lives.

Thank you! Reblogging with the link.

the library is a central part of a healthy community, i don’t think that mourning it is a skewed priority at all.

Fact check: Indigenous water crisis isn’t improving, despite promises from Trudeau

allthecanadianpolitics:

“If I made promises it’s because I intend to keep them,” Trudeau told Sarain Carson-Fox, host of the VICELAND show RISE, while visiting Shoal Lake 40 last year, a reserve on the border of Manitoba and Ontario that has been on a boil water advisory for two decades.

Nearly two years into the Liberal mandate, he is still a long way from fulfilling his promise.

Back in July 2015, before he was elected, there were 114 First Nations under 159 drinking water advisories across Canada. (Drinking water advisories can affect as little as one building or an entire First Nation, so communities can have more than one advisory at a time.)

Fast forward to this year, and as of July 31, 2017, there were a total of 121 First Nations under 172 drinking water advisories across Canada, including B.C.
