Well, earlier I said “girl”, because that’s when I had the misfortune of knowing her. But, by now? That awful roommate of mine could well be the mother of some of the current batch. Unless she’s changed more than I would necessarily expect, it seems pretty likely soon if not already.

I had one two-faced passive-aggressive darling of a roommate way back when, thankfully only for one semester. AFAICT, she mostly took against me because I was local and also not Christian–much less Evangelical enough for her. At a large state university, so idk what she was expecting going in 🤔

But, I also got to hear some of the shit she was saying about one of her friends being involved with a (very nice seeming) Indian-American guy, so who knows. I didn’t even want to find out what she was saying behind my back. Had enough problems to deal with as it was.

That was a fun enough experience, anyway, and I was so glad to change the next semester. But, it never occurred to me at the time that somebody like that might up the ante in truly disgusting ways, or I probably would have carried my toothbrush and some other items around in my backpack. And maybe used it as a pillow.

Even more appalling a story, with the supply of passive-aggressive bigots around 😵

sorry you had to go through that 😦  imagine, you had the nerve to be local and not christian. how very dare you. ugh.

at this point I am so thankful I don’t share my home with people I don’t know/barely know and am making plans for how I’ll live if ever I have to share spaces because. ewwwww. horrific.

I know, right? :/ Hopefully behavior like that is a serious outlier, but it really doesn’t make me any more inclined to trust people I don’t know well.

Well, in that particular case, local meant Horrible Hillbilly. (In case that part didn’t make much sense without some context.) Even better in a way, especially after growing up in another nearby toxic college town? That part hardly even surprised me, because of course there’s a good chance that particularly upper middle class people from elsewhere are going to act shitty about it.

What really surprised me at the time was how anybody could act that shocked at being expected to deal with people from different religious backgrounds. I mean, getting that offended at people who aren’t just like you existing around you is messed up enough anyway. But, what kind of raising and life experiences would it take for somebody to reach nominal adulthood in that kind of ideological bubble?

(Totally rhetorical, yeah, but that girl also came out of public schools in a large metropolitan area like that. I could maybe understand better if the religious homeschooling had been more of a thing then. But, I guess that’s a certain type of suburbia for you 😨)
