ive been reading a book that basically explains how so-called “brain differences” between the genders is the result of gendered socialization and not the cause of it. i honestly expected the book to be very cis-centric but its actually the opposite, the author stresses that testimony from trans ppl is actually indispensable because we’ve, in a sense, “lived both experiences”
more cis feminists should have this mindset
one of the first examples that she uses to introduce her point about how perception by others can shape a person’s performance actually uses a trans woman. it explains that as a certain trans woman became to be seen as a woman more and more frequently, the ppl arond her eventually started viewing her as being ill equipped for tasks that they did not bother her about pre-transition. eventually she even found herself underperforming in these tasks herself.
whats the name of the book
Delusions of Gender by Cordelia Fine
Day: November 13, 2017

This octopus candle holder that my sister hand made in a pottery studio.
I never knew I needed this

this is mercy, and this is the only picture i have of her on my phone without one of her sisters in it.
mercy got beaten up pretty badly a few days ago by a stray cat when she was outside with my mom and her partner. they brought her back inside and she’s been resting ever since. she was limping on her front left leg, but seemed to slowly be getting better. just now she went outside with me to walk blake to his car and she jumped off the porch railing, and hurt her front left leg even worse. she can’t even put weight on it now, and it has started swelling pretty badly near her shoulder. 😦
idk if my mom is going to have the money (she missed a week of work to take care of my sister after her emergency gallbladder surgery) to take her to the vet, but she desperately needs to see one, i know it. she’s growling and hissing every time i try to touch her. this is not her typical behavior by a long shot.
my mom and her girlfriend raised mercy from a tiny baby, after they rescued her in the 2016 flood we had here. she’s like my mom’s gf’s own child. she’s going through a lot right now, and she doesn’t want her cat to suffer, she’d do anything for this cat. but everyone in our house is broke right now.
if anyone could signal boost this, or donate a bit to my paypal madethisforpixiv@yahoo.com i’d forever appreciate it. anything you can do to help us out is enough.
we’re all short on money, and mercy is such a sweet baby, barely over a year old. i don’t want her condition to get worse, or it be something worse than just a sore leg, and us not be able to treat it properly.

“When you were sweetly sleeping and someone suddenly turns on the light”
I hate having to ask this but
I need help.
I’m a multiply disabled person
struggling to survive on an income that’s about 60% of minimum wage. That’s difficult at the best of times. Add in all the extra difficulties of winter and needing to help out family in equally difficult spots and right now scraping by seems barely possible. I’ve been trying everything else I can think of to not do this but it’s come down to asking you for help. We’re not trying to do a Thanksgiving meal this year or
anything extravagant like that. I’m just trying to make sure there’s
food at all, and ideally socks and gloves and laundry money and
medication and transit fare etc. It’s getting hard to keep up with the basics
again.I hate asking for help so much and I’m so sorry to ask, but I could really use some help if
anyone out there is both able and willing.I have a paypal and a wishlist.
If
anyone does decide to help and would like a personal thank you, I’d
love to know your username so I can shoot you an ask and let you know
how much it means to me. Otherwise, please know I’m so grateful, literally anything makes a huge difference.
