I know that.  I’m asking who caused the court to make her a ward of the state in the first place.  Who brought that to court?  Who filed for that?  That doesn’t just happen on its own.

Shortly after Heck, who is diagnosed with a mild intellectual disability, reached adulthood, a Kentucky court took away her right to decide where she lived, what she did with her money and what happened to her body.

At the age of 18, she became a ward of the state.

So in March of 2017, Heck (her friends call her Suzie) and her support team contacted Kentucky Protection & Advocacy and requested its help with restoring her rights through Supported Decision-Making.

remember y’all, the fafsa rules changed, it’s no longer jan 1st that’s the start of the application date, it’s october 1st, so you can reapply, or apply for the first time for fafsa right now until june for the 2018-2019 school year

Saturday, 18 June 2016, Mingo County, West Virginia. Behind her, there once stood a mountain, intact and undisturbed.
