Giving homeless people MONEY instead of FOOD can save their lives this winter, shelters cost money, being able to sit in McDonald’s and nurse a coke for a couple hours to warm up costs money, often accessing public toilets (whether it’s to use them, wash up or just to be out of the wind) costs money.
Just give homeless people cash, just do it, no excuses, no whining about “enabling their drug habits”, if you have money to spare, give it and possibly save someone from literally freezing to death.
Flu season would be way less prominent if parents just let their kids stay home when they’re sick
true and also parents would let their kids stay home when they’re sick if school districts didn’t send threatening letters and truant officers to their home when a kid misses 4 days without a doctors note.
And if they had someone who could stay home with them to care for them and still be able to pay rent.
I find it interesting that fascists in countries like Brazil and Poland use the same rhetoric about ‘protecting western civilisation’ as the fascists in Britain or the United States, who, in general, consider Brazilian and Polish immigrants to be degenerate scum who are polluting their ‘western’ way of life.
It’s almost as if fascism is an incoherent grab-bag of paper-thin excuses for behaving like an irredeemable shitgoblin.
I don’t think that it’s a coincidence that the sort of encroachment of childhood into the 20s that is like most explicitly shown by some form of “yr brain doesn’t start forming until you are 25” is usually used to deny the agency of younger people and put them at the hands of the state or other social apparati and absolutely never used to argue that they should be protected from the state (most clearly in when one can be tried as an adult, conscripted or otherwise put in the military, executed or imprisoned, responsible for life derailing loans, wage labor, etc).

It’s really bizarre to me whanever neurotypical people start talking like this because this is just what experiencing time is like when you have ADHD. My whole life feels like this and 2018 is no different.
The UK radfems who make up the numerous TERF organisations we’ve been recently gifted with literally never do anything useful for women. They manufacture anti-trans content all the time and do nothing else; it is literally the entirety of their online presence and their “activism”. They are manifestly uninterested in anything that feminists are usually expected to be interested in, unless it gives them an angle to manufacture more anti-transgender propaganda.
It’s worth noting, while I’m here, that no journalist interviewing these people or mining them for content is “falling for it”. They are well aware that these people conduct no feminist activism and have horribly biased viewpoints; that’s why they are routinely interviewed and quoted and sourced. Either the journalist in question shares their views – in which case the TERF organisations are providing a useful service for a journalist who wants to pretend their bigotry is somehow objective because they can find similarly horrible people to quote – or they are too lazy/careless to engage in anything other than the most debased form of point-counterpoint journalism, where you get a quote from a person who exists and another quote from someone who wants the first person dead and, boom, you’ve got yourself a “debate”.
