Wes Bellamy is the Vice mayor of Charlottleville, the only black person on their city council AND he’s the youngest person ever to fill his role in their city. I really like the short bit I saw of him on the news, he’s a brave and well-spoken dude.

Words, binary and biphobia, or: why ā€œbiā€ is binary but ā€œFTMā€ is not

bialogue-group:

fuckyeahqueertheory:

I have identified as bisexual for the reason that I’m attracted to men and women. As this article makes a point, this would mean I wouldn’t be attracted to genderqueer and possibly trans*.

Respectfully and quite urgently I need to point out to you that the title is meant to be sarcastic. The author of piece, Shiri Eisner is a well known bisexual activist and academic who is genderqueer herself. She in no way meant anywhere to imply in any possible way that bisexual people can only be/be attracted to cis heteronormative/homonormative people. In fact the exact opposite is true.

The entire thrust of the piece is to point out (with careful documentation) that some of the roots of transphobia and biphobia are the same and go back to some of the origins of the gay studies movement.

The title was pointing out the excessiveness silliness of (some) mindless pc rhetoric which excoriates bisexual people as being some sort of enemies of the queer nation for the crime of simply existing, while simultaneously falling all over themselves to show love and devotion to all things trans* and frequently gay & lesbian separatist too. Obviously if any thought were actually given rather that just mouthing current trendy pieties, it would quickly become apparent that these are two simultaneous states that cannot both exist at the same time.

May I refer you to two other essays on the current non-monosexual names conundrum: Why I identify as bisexual and not pansexual and Some differences and similarities between bisexuality and pansexuality. Also you may wish to read another of her well-known essays: The monosexual privilege checklist.

You should be aware that historically the Bisexual Community has always seen the Bi = 2 as talking about people who ♄ people of Same gender as themselves + ♄ people of Different genders/gender presentations from themselves. This 50%/50% Male/Female only stuff is a fairly recent invention (started gaining popularity around 2005) imposed by people who were not (and frequently did not like) bisexual people.

I know I was taking a little break to avoid all the stress of the Charlottesville rally being talked about on tumblr, but I also wanted to make sure all of my Jewish mutuals know how loved they are. I know this is scary and sometimes it feels like the only people looking out for us is ourselves, but know that you are not alone and have never been alone. We are one mishpacha, one family, and we will look after each other and keep each other safe like we always have. I love each and every one of you. Remember, the whole world is a very narrow bridge and the main thing is to have no fear at all.

Goyim, please reblog this instead of all the performativeĀ ā€œpunch a naziā€ nonsense. Make your Jewish followers feel safe.

goyim reporting for duty, here y’all go

i doubt a reblog will make anyone feel safe, but this might help: if you look at charlottesville at all, read enough of the articles to learn that pretty much the whole town was not pleased with the nazis and wanted them gone. there weren’t as many of them as they claimed to be, and to get even those numbers they were p much all from out of state. so basically that’s all of them right there, all the polo shirt dickbag haters they could scrape together, and pissed off locals ran them out of town.

i’m not denying that hate criminals have been acting out especially badly lately, and that people are getting hurt and killed. but i want to remind you that a LOT of people have your backs.

…OMG. I’ve been noticing that browsing my Tumblr dash in Firefox uses up around 1/3 of my CPU cycles, even with ad scripts blocked, but couldn’t figure out why.

After reading some developer tools documentation online, I managed to pinpoint that it was something involving CSS animations, but couldn’t find any obvious element that was animating on the page. So then I did a bit more debugging to see what animations were being reported by the document inspector.

It’s the mouseover animation on the Tumblr logo. Which, apparently, is coded in such a way that it keeps animating in the background even when the mouse is nowhere near it (!?!?!?!).

this site is so damn badly designed, what the heck.

So turns out the adblock filter you need to get rid of it is ##.logo-anchor to remove a container the logo is in. The basic right-click to remove doesn’t work because the logo has a lot of states that count as different elements and you’d need to block all of them.

In light of what happened recently in Charlottesville, here are ways you can help courtesy of Sara Benincasa on Twitter. Donate to local non-profits, signal boost, and show your support for the Black Student Alliance at University of Virginia. If you have spare money, support the Black Student Alliance or the counter protestor legal fund.

I really can’t stand the message that people send to others – especially to disabled people – that ā€˜the real world is cruel and nobody’s going to help you’ in an attempt to foster complete self-sufficiency.

Because it’s not true. I honestly can’t do everything by myself, and neither can you or anyone else. Everyone needs help. Nobody can always be their own chef, doctor, mechanic, teacher, trainer, and counsellor all rolled into one infallible package of superhuman toughness.

It’s patently misleading to raise people to think that they have to learn to always fly solo. We’re a social species and we support and learn from each other. We shouldn’t be taught that it’s shameful or weak to ask for help.

Nobody can do everything alone and nobody should have to. Especially us disabled people.
