Why Promising Weight Loss to Patients is Unethical

bigfatscience:

First off, as clinicians we pride ourselves on using treatments that are based on strong research. Most therapists try to use evidence-based treatments in their work with patients. With a 95% to 97% “failure” rate of diets (statistic holds true, even if you mask them as “lifestyle changes”) to maintain weight-loss over the long-term, there is simply no substantial evidence to support our ability as clinicians to help someone to lose weight and keep it off in the long-term.

In promising our clients weight-loss, we leave them feeling like “a failure” when they inevitably lose the weight and then proceed to gain it back. Of the 5% who do maintain the weight loss long-term, many of them either have disordered eating, eating disorders, or spend the majority of their days fixated on food and exercise. This focus is simply not an ideal way to live.

People are looking over the fact that Puerto Rico is going through a severe drought and financial crises.
Of course, many people outside of the Americas dont even know Puerto Rico exists, and that fine

BUT THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE UNITED STATES ISN’T DOING MUCH TO HELP.

The government of Puerto Rico is rationing water all over the island, but not for tourist locations

So people are not only worried for their local schools closing down x or buying groceries but now have to worry about taking a shower, or drinking water because they can only get water every 2 days

But is the United States helping? Nope not at all, allowing us to borrow money at 6% interest, but instead increased it to be over 15%. And among other things that you can google about how TERRIBLE the US has been treating the island.

Oh and how the US government has given California 110 million dollars in drought aid, and even though multiple sources have stated that the drought in Puerto Rico is significantly worse than the one in mainland USA , America hasn’t sent any aid, but now our representative is BEGGING the US to send aid.

The problem of the island could be directly linked to the lack of representation in congress, but what can we do

We can at least sign this petition for the US to send desalination ships to the worst areas in Puerto Rico

and perhaps once the crises is over, we can address the unhealthy relationship Puerto Rico and the US have.

This is mostly a ramble/rant, Im just so infuriated at the way the government is handling this situation

Many reservoirs are within 30 days of completely drying up so please sign the petition, and read up on the situation. Perhaps try to email your state’s representative to raise the awareness in congress. We cannot let people who pay taxes and barely reap the benefits die because of this drought

In addition to water being supplied around the clock to tourist establishments like hotels and resorts, wealthier and demographically whiter neighborhoods like Isla Verde and Condado aren’t being rationed, while historically black areas like Rio Piedras and Santurce have gone up to 3 days without a drop of water.

And because I seriously think not enough people realize this: Puerto Rico IS A PART OF THE UNITED STATES. This is OUR OWN FEDERAL GOVERNMENT refusing to provide aid to ITS OWN CONSTITUENCY.

she ain’t wrong 🤔

Im so????

What asshole drew this?? As if we don’t have the very recent, devastating shipwrecks of the Costa Concordia (2012) in which video from firefighters helped prove the captain abandoned his ship in a disaster that resulted in 32 fatalities

or the sinking of the Sewol ferry in Korea (2014), in which over 300 people, mostly middle school students, were drowned, but not before many sent footage of the ferry’s announcements telling people to stay seated and not evacuate, proving the negligence of the ferry’s crew. Many of them were able to get final goodbye messages to their friends and family before they drowned.

Ability to send final messages aside, documentary archival video footage is PRICELESS in situations like this. After any kind of public event, you bet your ass police are asking for any and all cell phone footage from the area.

anyway, in conclusion, that artist can fuck off

And WTF, there were people literally sitting in the lifeboats on the Titanic sketching it. That’s where that iconic fucking image of it COMES FROM, you WOMBATS.
