So, I just found out my old hometown is completely underwater, so we’re doing our best to reach out to family and friends and get them rescued.

This is what we were afraid of happening with Rita 12 years ago, and this time around NO ONE got to evacuate. Literally the entire city of Port Arthur is underwater after the levee failed, as are many of the surrounding cities.
Currently plotting another trip to Tranquility Aquatics via the Sainsbury’s just down the street from there, since it should work better for the fish in that order.
Not necessarily so much for me, with the fish shop closing two hours earlier than the other store location and needing to lug groceries around for longer. But, I imagine they’d be stressed enough by getting netted and tied up in bags without riding around in a shopping cart too 😨 Only planning to pick up a few urgent items (famous last words), but still.
It’s cooled down enough today that I might take along an insulated bag just to be safe. It should only be maybe 10-15 minutes home, but those bags don’t have much water to hold the temperature stable and I don’t necessarily trust the buses.
It’s also pouring rain, and I would probably skip that grocery run otherwise. Out of a few basics like GF bread and really need to make a pharmacy stop, but still. More inclined to try to muster the spoons and go out in the rain with the prospect of new fish *wry smile*
Well, I did manage to make it out to both places. And I don’t think I even forgot anything super important this time *fingers crossed*
That was pretty stressful, especially on the way home just as rush hour was getting rolling in the direction I was heading–with no headphones along because I’m a Muppet 😳 I was already kinda overloaded from the multiple stops and bus rides.
But, I made it home and the new corys are floating in the tank for temperature adjustment now. Very glad I did get that done, though. That was actually the first time in longer than I care to think about that I’ve gotten out on the bus for grocery shopping, and now I have a few things quicker without setting up a delivery.
Sandwich time pretty soon, I imagine, now that there’s more bread.
the fact is that communism will mean less cars, less motorboats, etc. these things cannot exist for everybody, and the people they exist for now are destroying the planet with them. communism means a slower world -no planes, we’ll take slow trains instead – but that’s alright, because we’ll have more time, since there won’t be work.
I don’t like this. Space age communism is my speed. That said maglev trains can outpace a lot of modern airliners.

Speed literally is fascistic though. It’s not surprising that the futurist movement, which was full of people who went on to be loyal fascists, was centered on speed and violence. In particular they loved cars, trains, planes, and the fast-pace of modern industrial life.
The car is easily the number one killer of life either directly, accidents, or indirectly, air pollution, mining pollution, refining pollution, stress. Not to mention what it does to human geography and wildlife habitat. And if people love cities they should hate cars since cars are the number one reason why cities suck these days.
I think it would be cool if small electric cars for inner city were reserved for people with mobility issues. Or were communized and you took them out on the outskirts of a well-defined city when you needed to travel somewhere not easily reachable by train or ship. Or if you just wanted to slow-cruise the countryside.
My “ideal” would be to use limited technology to a bare minimum for utilitarian purposes. Primarily healthcare and for assistance to those with disabilities. And where absolutely only necessary to relieve labor. IE sanitation or heavy lifting of objects safely.

I don’t understand why cars are seen as so evil. Like if you have a problem with emissions, that’s fine. We are working on it, eventually they will make a suitable fueling method for electric cars eventually, then the effect is based on our power grid so make sure you are worrying about how much coal we are using still.
Also like… “only the disabled can have cars” what is your form of measurement? at this point I might not qualify for a blue tag anymore, but I can’t play pokemon go too many days in a row because too much walking makes me bedridden. No one wants to spend money on provinding shit so you damn well better believe the way they measure need is ALWAYS far too strict to not badly screw people over.
So yes, you would be likely trapping people in their homes with this idea. Good job. You can pry my precious cars out of my cold dead fingers they are my larger wheelchair.
So here is a fun fact. When I was a teenager I decided to join the CLASSIC METAL FANDOM, my first fandom enviorment was the motley crue shout bbs board. It had such lovely feaures as “gore thread” and like at least half of the threads were sexual shit. Motley crue for example, have a song called “all in the name of” it starts out with “she’s only 15, she’s the reason the reason that I can’t sleep, you say illegal, I say leagals never been my scene”
So basically, explicitly pro statutory rape. So me, fitting the description of the song, lets say was a VERY EASY TARGET…. but the only one who I hooked up with there was a cute gnc guy who was one of the like 5 people on the board my age, because not a SINGLE adult messed with me, many of them came to collect me when I was being dumb and trying to hit on the adults or something NO NO NO DON’T DO THAT.
Idk the song gets stuck in my head sometimes still. This post trigged it poping back in again, in retrospect the lyrics make me cringe. I don’t think? That particular band ever had any member in trouble for that but god knows plenty of classic rock bands did in fact have members like, dating girls as low as thirteen. Which is WAY more problematic then most of what bands get called out for now but people still don’t seem too care. But people go after the fans a lot if songs are like that.
And every time they do I can’t help but think about how the only reason I probably managed to avoid being targeted for an easy victim back then was the kind of problematic people that would get called predators for EXISTING on this site. Being a fan of problematic shit means nothing, it doesn’t mean you’re problematic in the same way yourself.
