Can we make an exception and leave tat one up?

No but seriously I love this statue. It represents everything about Confederate monuments, to me. It looks nothing like real life, it’s simultaneously cartoonish and incredibly unfortunate, and it was clearly made by somebody with more stubbornness than common sense. Also it’s ugly as shit.

This is that one on the highway outside of Nashville! I spent my childhood having to see that hideous thing every time we went to the airport or to see a show at TPAC

most Nashvillians have cherished, violent fantasies of destroying it, but it’s on private property and the owner is a gun hoarder as well as a racist. The city keeps asking the state if they can plant shrubs in front of it to block it from view. The state keeps refusing

The announcement comes as three of the five honorees — television
producer Norman Lear, singer Lionel Richie and dancer Carmen de
Lavallade — said they would boycott the
traditional White House reception related to the celebration. As for
the other two, rapper LL Cool J had not said whether he would attend,
and Cuban American singer Gloria Estefan said she would go to try to
influence the president on immigration issues.

This is actually one of the most normal political things he’s done. Not uncommon for politicians to bow out of events that aren’t political when it seems like someone might use it as a way to grandstand and insult them/their politics. It’s a way for politicians to save face and for the events to not get ruined.

However, there is 110% chance he starts angrily tweeting about these people anyway if he gets bored and pissed off about it, so any smart, respectful political points he may have gained go out the window anyway
