i love when people say “wow you go to the Drs a lot. i never really bother” like they think you go there when you don’t 800% have to.

they think you get a bit of a headache or the sniffles and book an appointment.

when really they would be rushing to the emergency department with something that just has you sitting at home like “hmm…maybe i should ring someone tomorrow? or mention it next week? nah i probably got this.”

The really frustrating thing is when people who are like, personally responsible for antibiotic resistance getting worse because they ALWAYS go in the first week of the sinus infection or whatever but in general chronic ill people do not go for years for anything because drs aren’t worth it then get hit with something that impedes function and are forced to.

Like there is an extra level of insulting when you have not been to the dr in 5 years because you suffered and fought off every acute problem w/out asking for help and then treated like you suddenly out of nowhere from there started going in for minor shit and being a baby about it.

PSA: if you smoke marijuana, please tell your anesthesia team.

They’re not going to rat you out. They’re going to adjust your anesthesia dosage so you don’t WAKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF SURGERY.

Some anesthesiologists will refuse to put you under if you’ve smoked cannabis within the past 24 hours – and let’s be clear, this is NOT because they’re morally against it – it’s because THC and anesthetic react in unpredictable ways and waking up in the middle of surgery is slightly less of a concern than SLIPPING INTO A COMA OR DYING. 

So there’s that.

Yes, this too. Should have included this. It just wasn’t on my mind when I made the original post because my mind was full of NOPE NOPE NOPE after, you guessed it, one of my patients woke up in the middle of her surgery because she didn’t tell her anesthesia team she used marijuana.

I am not sure how well I trust “they won’t rat youbout”. Yeah not to the cops probably, but if you don’t have a medical excuse they might mark you down as abusing drugs and good luck getting pain meds for recovering then.

But again this is the last DAY, if you just don’t have any the day before you don’t have to mention it period.

at work we have a family of three huskies who come in for daycare and everyone calls them “the mafia” it makes me so happy because occasionally out of nowhere someone over the radios will say “we’re sending in the mafia” and then three huskies barrel their way inside and usually slip and fall on the tile ajfjajg

the white one is zephyr but everyone calls him the godfather and his sisters follow him around everywhere and they’re a tiny gang which i love

Guys, guys, “ðis” and “smooð” shouldn’t have þ, ðey’re hard TH sounds. 

We should be bringing back eð as well.

Ðis is ðe year we start spelling þings ðe Anglo-Saxon way again, and we’re gonna do it right.

Both the letter eth (Ð,ð) and thorn (Þ,þ) were actually used interchangeably in Old English. Ðis is right and so is þis. Þey’re not interchangeable in oþer languages or for ðe IPA, but I þink ðat for English, þe crazier we get ðe more Beowulf would be proud of us.

ACTUALLY, in Old English, þhe þorn is most commonly used at þe beginning or middle of a word, whereas þe ð is used at þe end.

So, in OE, it’s Draca eteð þu. (Þe dragon eats you.)
