but out of all of them i’ve seen, this post talking about an american pitcher plant with a mutation is probably my fave. i contacted op over dm after seeing it and they say that the plant lives a happy life in the ground in a perfectly reasonable climate, but always sends up 2-3 of these when it comes back up each year (for comparison, here’s another post showing what these pitcher plants usually look like):
common topics in this subreddit include:
-’my carnivorous plant is cute!!!!!!!!!!’
-’my carnivorous plant is flowering!!!!!!!’
-’my carnivorous plant ate something weird!!!!!!!!!’
-’my carnviorous plant has something weird about to fall into it!!!!!!!!!!’
-canriovous plant-mediated bug carnage
-new cultivars and stuff
-a few people selling/trading
-new carnivorous plant news and research
-new discoveries, whenever they happen
-people asking questions about carnivorous plant care and more experienced people answering
-people posting their CRAZY beautiful carnivorous plant setups like HOW:
they also have a dedicated carnivorous plant discord organized by plant family lmao, here’s the invite, im bolding this because i get a lot of questions about where my occasional plant-related discord screenshots come from and i actually don’t have a dedicated server of my own for that (yet) but i am in this one so
Being jealous and insecure is okay. Demanding that your friend or partner stop seeing their other friends isn’t.
Wanting attention is okay. Demanding your friend or partners attention 24/7 isn’t.
Being angry is okay. Taking your anger out on innocent people isn’t.
We can’t control our feelings and we shouldn’t attempt to, but we can and should work to control our reactions to said feelings.
I was told something about expressing anger once, “maybe you needed to say it, but they didn’t need to hear it” to remind me to be careful about how I express things. I have a journal for that kind of thing but I don’t go back to read it because I think that falls under the “doesn’t need to hear it” because all it does is dredge up bad feelings again
Being a decent person isn’t about not having the wrong feelings– believing that leads to a dangerous path of self-denial. It’s about learning to deal with the feelings you have.
one of the weirdest ways that language is evolving in response to the internet is that “bad words” just. do not have the same impact anymore. i constantly forget that some people think ‘fuck you’ is a terrible insult
so threats and insults have to start getting really out there if the person wants to even mean anything. if a person told me to die i’d shrug it off but if i opened a post’s tags and saw “op i will sneak into your house and replace all your shoelaces with cooked pasta” do you know how shaken i’d be? do you know how upset i’d be if i saw “op is the personification of the look you share w other people in the grocery store when some dude is causing A Scene™
for no reason”
So you are saying English curses on the Internet are becoming more like Yiddish curses?
I sincerely hope so but I can’t say I’m familiar with yiddish curses and i am begging you to tell me a few
My Personal favorite is:
“May all your teeth fall out, except for one, to give you a toothache.”
The upcoming midterm elections are poised to be incredibly important for the future of our country. You need to vote in them–the primaries and the general.
Are you registered to vote? If you think you are, take a moment to check your registration well ahead of voting day. Make sure you know your voting dates, polling place, how to get an absentee ballot if you need one, and any ID requirements.
If you aren’t, register right now! Many states require registration before a deadline some time in advance of voting day, so don’t wait.
(Vote.org is reputable, but if you don’t want to use them, just Google “[state] voter registration” for information.)
And I don’t want to get too partisan on this post, but… if you have any reservations about voting for a “lesser evil,” get over them now. Our voting system requires strategic voting, and that sucks, but since it’s true, vote strategically! Vote your heart in the primaries, but in the general, vote for the lesser evil. It’s a hell of a lot better than sitting on the sidelines patting yourself on the back for purity while the greater evil wins.
New Jersey’s undocumented immigrants pay about $587 million each year in state and local taxes, the sixth highest level of all states. And the more integrated these neighbors become in our society, the higher their tax contributions. For example, the same undocumented New Jerseyans would pay an additional $73 million – the eighth largest jump of all states – should they be covered by comprehensive immigration reform.
At the county level, undocumented folks contribute from $14 million in Atlantic County, which is home to 12,000 undocumented immigrants, to almost $80 million in the county with the largest count of undocumented immigrants, Hudson County. Hudson County and Middlesex County, the two counties with the highest number of undocumented immigrants, would see the greatest increase in taxes paid if undocumented immigrants were granted legal status.
While inflammatory rhetoric and repressive actions toward immigrants and refugees seem to be the “new normal” in the halls of power of Washington, D.C., the facts still matter – and they show that undocumented New Jerseyans are an integral part of our state’s economy.
Read this & be mindful of those partaking in Ramadan.
I would rather everyone read and shared this instead of “remember to tag your food/nsfw/etc!” post that’s going around every year. (None of these things actually break your fast and if you’re fasting and worried about seeing them, you shouldn’t be on tumblr).
Being considerate and kind goes a long way, so I’d appreciate if this post went around instead.
Although it IS common courtesy not to talk a lot about food around somebody who’s trying to fast, I’m reblogging this again.
