Boozhoo (hello), my name is Ken, I am a disabled Ojibwe artist from northern Wisconsin. I am writing this post because I am having a hard time making ends meet and any donations I could possibly receive at this time would be greatly appreciated. Recent events have left my bank account depleted and my cupboards bare, I have some food but it will not last and I still do not know how I will cover all the utility bills.

I do have PayPal, that is really the best way to donate at this time, the email I use for that is: baapimakwa@gmail.com, or you can click here.

Okay semi-emergency, I have nothing in case of emergency, all the household “essentials” are tapped out, I had to duct tape and napkin a wound, and while thats handy it’s not good when I’m prone to infections, I keep putting it off because other things are a priority like lights and food but I also need bandages and cleaning supplies.

Miigwech (thank you) all, ordered some stuff online, got some stuff sent to me, and still hoping to get a ride set up this weekend so I can do some food and household supply shopping.

I was really into the signs all over ReptileFest- they all sent home messages of responsibility and the actual challenges of owning different species. Very refreshing- you never see stuff like this at breeder shows (because they want everyone to buy things)!

Another thing i was really into: there was zero gate keeping at this event. Even kids- junior herpers- were demonstrating and educating about animals. The event was super family friendly and accessible, and there didn’t seem to be anything like a boys’ club. Very neat.

‘Look what happens when we don’t talk to each other’: Korean American filmmakers’ L.A. riots stories

“The mainstream media made it sound as if the 1992 L.A. riots were caused by black-Korean conflict,” [Kim-Gibson] said. “That boiled my blood, because that was not the case. Black-Korean conflict was one symptom, but it was certainly not the cause of that riot. The cause of that riot was black-white conflict that existed in this country from the establishment of this country.”

Media reports that pitted the African American community against their Korean immigrant neighbors, Kim-Gibson felt, “were tremendously wrong. So I decided I could not have the mainstream media tell our stories. We had to go and tell it ourselves.”
