But they aren’t documented so they wouldn’t be pa…..nvm

This is a huge misconception for regular Americans. When the government uses the phrase “undocumented” they’re using it incorrectly because if they were truly undocumented then they would’ve be in system. However these immigrants are in the system and they pay taxes, file tax returns and get no benefits that citizens and legal residents get. They also get to see ICE showing up at their doors because the government has their addresses.

Fun fact. “Undocumented” workers pays $12 billion dollars every year in taxes.

Reblogging for info.

“Undocumented” just means “without papers,” i.e. a social security card, valid visa, etc. They’re still on databases and whatnot, they just don’t have the documentation that allows them to reap the benefits.

so if it didn’t click- the government is aware of their presence and gladly taking their money under the table while simultaneously promoting the idea that undocumented people are a threat and encouraging hatred and distrust of them
it’s super messed up, literally the scheme of an evil villain, and it’s really happening

🗣 undocumented immigrants in Los Angeles contribute more to the GDP than the state of Montana and like 5 other states

Also, for what it’s worth, even immigrants that are really  undocumented – that is, not in the system at all – still pay taxes.

They pay sales taxes on the goods they buy, they pay property taxes on the homes they live in (or, more often, rent – the property owners pay the taxes and pass the costs on to the renters.) Depending on how their employment shakes out, they may still have taxes withheld from their paychecks.

fun fact the west coast does not have cicadas so you can imagine my surprise when my LA ass moved to Philly for college when all the trees started screaming while they’ve been on fire plenty of times where I’m from they never screamed

i’m c r y i n g

like consciously i know biodiversity exists but i guess i just never considered the fact that some people don’t have the experience where you just wake up one day to all of nature fucking shrieking like hellspawn and you’re like “huh guess it’s that season!”

The season of knife wind, the season of sneezing, the season of sun punishment, the season of tree screams, what’s hard about this

As a lonely kitten, Monster (left) would pull the stuffed animal off the shelf for cuddles, kisses, and play times. It’s 6 yrs later and the toy we now refer to as “Monster’s Baby” has made it to every vet visit, emergency surgery, and new home. Baby is a lil worn but Monster loves him all the same.

do you want to know something?? I always wondered what the hell kind of hairstyle the Ancient Egyptians were trying to portray with depictions like these

and this

until I did my hair this morning and

oh

welp

you can take the noses off our statues but until you find a way to take Egypt out of Africa we’re still going to find ourselves

I’m reblogging this post without all the salty, racist commentary because I’m sick of looking at it. please spread this around again in its pure form for posterity.

What’s funny is that white people thought they were hats/crowns 😂

ESIUQRAM

Here’s a really good post about this.

And here’s some pictures of the Afar people, who still live on the horn of Africa today.

Cool, huh?

Beautiful

People thought it was Hats and Crowns? How could they not see hair?

The same reason archaeologists, upon finding a woman’s skeleton in the grave of a famous Roman gladiator, immediately wondered where the gladiator’s skeleton was: Old Straight White Man™ brand denial.

Same way they denied the Really Gay Egyptian Tomb, too. It’s kind of a Thing.

This post is amazing, I’m so glad it exists. I have learned.

There is so much greatness in this post and all white people care about is defending why they thought the depictions are hats. White people??? Why are you like this???

I’m salty as fuck that we were taught they were crowns at SCHOOL. For Christ sake.

Their hair is laid to rest. How do I get on this wave?????

I’m really afraid how woke my kids are gonna be in school.

This is why Eurocentrism is bad for archaeology, and we really need race and gender theory. We can only learn about the past if we’re able to ask the right kinds of questions.

I also got a few cut flowers out of that job, whether I had intended to or not!

(Not about to go through that brush pile after more of the buds right now; these few just jumped out at me while I was working.)

That one bloom that had already opened is small and lighter colored than usual, but the smell is fantastic.

Before and after. I wasn’t kidding about that rosebush needing some serious chopping back.

(There are a couple of patio planters under that rose brush pile, BTW. Probably need to get some help moving that later, because it sure can’t stay there.)

It ain’t pretty now, but I can clean it up later. And from past experience, it should fill back in pretty quickly. At least it shouldn’t be annoying those neighbors anymore.

As shown in the last shot, a couple of canes were firmly enough wedged up between the decking boards that I couldn’t pull them down after pruning them off. Will need to get some help with that later too. If nothing else, Mr. C can get up on a ladder and cut it off at the top. I’m not about to try that on my own, even if I did have the energy right now. (Some modicum of sense, at any rate 🙄)

That was some overdoing today, but at least the worst of the job is done. And I managed to get a little sun in the process.

Thinking it’s time for Takeout Night, even if napping for approximately a year isn’t a great option.

bandana-roja:

If you’re a white person and you know that people of color face oppression for having black and brown skin, it is not enough for you to just know that racism exists, it’s not enough to be aware that institutional racism puts minorities in danger, and it’s not enough to admit white guilt with the selfish intention of getting sympathy and praise from people of color in proving that you’re now “woke” or to make a big deal that you’re now an “ally.”

Your goal should be to take direct steps to dismantle that system. To challenge it wherever you see it. To be on the frontlines and help with its destruction.

Very relevant

the only countries that have worse healthcare than the US are countries that cant afford it. thats the bottom line. diabetics arent dying because theres an insulin shortage in this country. theyre dying because the government refuses to carry that economic burden to save lives in spite of being fully able to do so.

that is the difference between us and countries with socialized healthcare.
able. just unwilling

WE ARE NOT TO BLAME

It is NOT our fault

We have NOTHING to do with the actions of our ancestors

Do not let ANYONE tell you otherwise

This stuff should stay funny.

The antics y’all pull should at least get a bitter laugh. But I see stuff like this and I just stare at it. How can the nature of a human be so disgusting, so avoiding, so intentional.

To be this way…

I guess it’s yalls right.

I see literally no reason me or anyone else alive today should at all be held responsible for crimes committed centuries ago. It was nothing to do with us. Would you send a murderer’s grandchildren to jail for their crime? No. So leave us alone and stop punishing innocent people

Okay I guess I can go up to a Muslim or Chinese person and tell them that they oppress me just for existing because their ancestors oppressed my ancestors.

Or a Malaysian, Thai, or Singaporean person can come up to me and tell me the same thing.

Or does it only work that way with White people?

People who lay the blame with random individuals for structural issues are your enemy, and their own enemy. Anyone who insists on your shaming and your atonement is sacrificing your potential to change the world on the altar of their own ego. Everyone born in the West already profits from unequal relations with the Global South regardless of ancestry. Changing that sort of stuff is beyond any individual, but you can chip away at it, and that sure as fuck ain’t happening if you’re sitting on your thumbs at a Healing From Toxic Privilege wokeshop.

Barbara Mann said it better than I could, once again.

“White guilt” is no substitute for truth telling. First, sloshing around in guilt does not expiate the evil done. Worse, having once sloshed, sloshers just grow angry or compassion-fatigued should the topic recur, even though the damage remains unaddressed. Second, “white guilt” is modeled on Christian forgiveness, which paralyzes its prey before consuming it. Wallowing helps no one…

The upshot?

All that you are responsible for is what you do, once you walk out the door, knowing that these things did happen.

Or are continuing to happen now, as the case may be. Wallowing helps no one.
