Hey, I’m just in the beginning process of SSI. I have VACTERL syndrome–which is basically a lot of birth defects–everything is invisible, except under scans. I have to do “treatments” that leave me out for 3 days to a week, in extreme pain in order to move my bowels. Without them I get infections and can die. My scoliosis (40 degree curve, hemi-vertebre, butterfly vertebre, fused vertebre, calcification, and general arthritis) makes it extremely hard to work, both sitting and standing jobs. When I used to work, I had to go to the bathroom and cry out of pain. Way before my shift was over. Treatments always made it hard to stay in school, let alone jobs. (Teachers said I could have stifled my learning because of my “sporadic” attendance). A big problem might be, I was abused and isolated until I was 19. My mother never took me to doctors unless I was dying. Even though, according to every doctor I have seen after I moved out is astonished of my medical gaps, and said I should have definitely had ongoing care with my condition. I’ve gone to the hospital for near-death infections and obstructions, had x-rays of my spine, but my GI specialist dropped my case because I was too complicated for him (my syndrome and defects are incredibly rare) and everyone I see say that there’s nothing they can do, and that I need to go to a University hospital, which only takes things like Medicaid. I’ve never been able to hold down a job for more than a few weeks before I’m fired. Me and my dad (who I guess is my advocate in this instance) have just gone through SSA, and are now waiting on the medical side of things. But, because most people say there’s nothing they can do, I don’t visit my specialists often. I don’t have near as much medical records because of my mom, and because everyone around me says I belong in a university hospital, not doctors for “normal people”. I’m just wondering if you have any tips or resources on how to get approved for SSI in this situation (or in general), how long it may take, and if we for-sure need lawyers, since that’s what I see all the time, the only way people get approved for SSI is if they get a lawyer. I have an appointment for the Macintosh Center on the 22nd. It’s not a government program, it’s a state program but it helps people with disabilities. I figure it’s another start, as they can help if I am denied. But, any tips or information you could give me would be great. My condition gets worse every year, and according to a case study they did on adults who have my syndrome, my body will be that of a 80-85 year old by the time I’m 35-40. Give or take, depending on how fast the deterioration is. Which is why SSI is important to me and the resources it would bring. I live in California if that helps/is relevant. Thank you.

all i have to say on breastfeeding is that the fact that it is even slightly controversial is just one of the many symptoms of a lecherous, sex-obsessed society. it’s an insult to the dignity of women.

How dare society be concerned about public decency?!

(that was sarcasm)

Nobody is stopping you from breastfeeding in private.

But in public, where it could be seen by children, trauma-stricken war veterans, or the elderly?

There is a case to be made that they should be able to go about their lawful business without being exposed to the areolas of strange women with nefarious agendas.

trauma stricken veterans of what

the titty wars?

Don’t be crass!

I apologise, I meant of course

The Wars of the Breast (1967-1969)

every time i hear you state an opinion @thecybersmith it’s somehow more outlandish and lacking of any reasoning than before

I see a woman breast feeding her child

My mind races as I remember the muffled sound of chopper blades. The screams of the dying. The smell of the napalm spraying from the tiddy

REBLOG IF YOU ARE A STRANGE WOMAN WITH A NEFARIOUS AGENDA, SUPPORT STRANGE WOMEN WITH NEFARIOUS AGENDAS, OR ARE PRETTY SURE HUMAN PET GUY IS TROLLING BUT CONSERVATISM HAS GOTTEN CREEPY AND WEIRD ENOUGH YOU’RE NOT 100% SURE.

i feel like i just walked into the wrong classroom and caught the teacher doing a freddy mercury impression into his shoe while the class holds up score cards

like on the one hand this looks like a lot of fun

but on the other hand if i don’t leave now before they notice me i’m not sure i’ll ever escape

I just had an exclusionist tell me that “corrective r*pe is a lesbian term used to describe lesbian experiences” and I’m?????? What the actual literal genuine fuck????

appalachian-ace:

Corrective rape isn’t something just lesbians go through and forcing non-lesbians to create a different term for the same thing is just splitting hairs tbh

And the actual South Africans who invented the term have said it is open for anyone to use.

There, in the term’s original use, it is recognized as happening to: lesbian women, bisexual women, women who are not feminine enough, men who are too feminine, anybody transgender, and basically anyone else a violent such-and-such looking for someone to hurt thinks is insufficiently living according to binary gender roles and binary gender presentation. With having romantic and sexual attractions to the other binary gender being tied up in those gender roles much the same way American evangelicals and American protestant fundamentalists do.

In more basic terms, an attack on a lesbian there typically isn’t because she’s sexually interested in other women, it’s because someone decided she needed corrective punishment for Failing To Woman Correctly. Being a lesbian is just one of many ways the men committing these attacks think it is possible to Fail To Woman Correctly.

And no, the occasions where corrective rape happens to those presumed you be men do not count as homophobes being hypocrites because Rape By Object is a common theme in the attacks that the term first described. These are primarily ‘I am going to use sexual violence to coerce you into complying with a social role out of fear it might happen again’ attacks, not ‘the only reason you claim to be more interested in women than men is because you have not experienced the wonder hidden within my pants, I am now going to force this enlightenment upon you’ attacks. The sexual prowess or lack thereof of the attacker(s) doesn’t matter, nor does his or their sexual entitlement or lack thereof. Sexual violence is merely the chosen weapon for enforcing a set of cultural norms.

If anything, the western style ‘I am going to prove heterosexual sex is the best sex to you, whether you want me to or not, because clearly you’d prefer men if you had experienced me’ entitlement attack is the newcomer to the definition in use because the attacker becomes a visible essential part of the justification instead of merely being the anonymous dispenser of punishment for violation of a gender-based social code.

Death to the Empire!

AS FEARLESS IN DEATH

AS HE WAS IN LIFE

Bitch why is everyone just staring at him as he runs off WTF

Is this guy part chicken or something?

Though tbqh, if I saw a decapitated guy grab his ax and run off while yelling “Death to the Empire”, I’m not sure I’d be capable of doing more that stand and stare with my mouth open.

I showed this to my husband and evidently it’s a Skyrim bug exploit where you can pardon a guy just as the axe is coming down, so the guy is alive by virtue of being exonerated but still beheaded by sheer inertia. And uh… bursting with aggro from the looks of it. I am told you can make an army of invincible headless warriors this way.

What we all need to understand about AI in a nutshell:

There’s an algorithm that can reliably predict, from aggregate facebook posts, the onset of a manic episode in a person suffering from bipolar disorder – more reliably even, than a trained psychotherapist, who only has access to the information a patient provides them in therapy sessions.

“Won’t technology like that help people with bipolar disorder?”

Theoretically, it could. But this algorithm wasn’t designed to help people with bipolar disorder.

This algorithm was designed to sell plane tickets to Las Vegas.

[source]

Guys you gotta click the link. Because this was not just an accidental outcome- it’s click bait based on algorithms.

the AI knows you’re about to hit mania so it pushes Las Vegas Airfare Adverts to you so when you hit the mania you buy one, because it’s figured out that bipolar people that have hit mania are more likely to start gambling/making impulsive decisions – and that will sell a ticket.

They didn’t explicitly mean to target bipolar people who have hit mania, but the algorithm is really good at learning shit and the more things you like or sites you visit the more accurate it’s recommendations are, so it basically started pushing ads at people with bipolar disorder and nobody knows what exactly it’s picking up on.

Seriously click the source link it’s a TED Talk about 23 minutes long.

@argumate relevant.

arguably as with most AI risk it’s just the intensification of an existing trend, in this case “advertising takes advantage of people for profit”
