Shortage of home health workers forces young Minnesotans with disabilities into institutions

“This is a civil rights issue,” said Barnett Rosenfield, supervising attorney for Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid’s Minnesota Disability Law Center. “We have too many people in our state stuck in nursing homes who don’t want to be there and have no easy way out.”

the other big problem here is a lack of accessible housing. i wouldn’t be stuck in a nursing home if the Twin Cities actually had enough apartments that can accommodate a power chair. instead, wait lists are years long.

i’d have gone straight home after my surgery if our current apartment was at all accessible, but it’s not and my medical team all agreed that i shouldn’t go back there. so now i’m a 26-year-old woman living in the land of octogenarians until an accessible apartment opens up. i could be here for five years.

this is no way to live.

I opened the door and only Arthur came inside. It’s raining. I couldn’t find the other cat. She’s usually the first to come through the door, so I got slightly worried.

Wisconsin White Deer Surprised by his own Antlers Shedding

image

aw hell no

Deer, although graceful and lovely, are fucking morons.

Who among us isn’t surprised when a part of our head flies off

As a southerner raised by rednecks, I can confirm that deer are adorable morons.

I’ve seen deer:

1.) Run from their own baby after it sneezed

2.) Run from a turkey that was chasing another turkey

3.) Run into the only tree in the middle of a field

4.) Run from ITSELF after IT sneezed

5.) Run circles around my house because a Mockingbird was imitating the wheezing sound deer use to verbally communicate a sense of unease

Date of article: April 24th, 2018

Ending paragraph from the article:

“The Trump administration cannot ignore the law, nor the reality of tribes’ existence as sovereign nations that predate the United States. Treaties cannot be sponged away. The government’s legal duty to provide medical care to tribes, determined by treaties, Congress, Executive Orders, and the Supreme Court of the United States, cannot be summarily dismissed. These actions maynot only be illegal, but threaten the survival of natives today, whose ancestors were extinguished by the millions in the genocide of Indigenous that began with the landing of Christopher Columbus in 1492. We deserve to live.”
