Guess the Breed(s)

Sami stands about 2 feet tall and weighs 40 pounds (which we’ve been told is *achem* quite hefty). She is naturally wary and acts like a tough guard dog, but she’s really a big scaredy cat. It takes her a long time to trust people, but once she does, she is very sweet and loves kisses.

Sami can be very energetic or snooze the day away in the sunshine, depending on the threat level presented by the mailman. Her hobbies include obsessing over tennis balls, playing with her sister (an English yellow lab), and trying to befriend the cat.

Sami is mixed with 2 breeds. She is not mixed with Chow! Her breed combo has a fancy name, and both breeds are under 50lbs.

Sami is…!!

An Ori Pei! A Pug/Shar Pei mix.

I ended up ordering more than I probably should have from Sensory Toys Warehouse. Which I actually decided not to before, because it is just so painfully run by “a mother of 2 young children who have both experienced special needs”–who prefers to describe it that way, with a reference to her “journey”.

I mean, it’s not just a light-up ball that makes noise, which might be fun to mess with. It’s also “Ideal for ‘to and fro’ games to get them interacting, encouraging motor skills and hand-eye co-ordination skills”!

That kind of atmosphere with the whole site. And if I never have to encounter some of the “view from above” type books they’re selling ever again, it will be too soon. (They kept showing up in other category listings. Hard to avoid.) I actually got an eye twitch before I had browsed for very long.

But, they do seem to have the best UK-based assortment of reasonably priced stuff I have run across so far. And it’s not a spectacularly terrible site compared to some others, they just make it so very obvious they’re not expecting the people buying from them to be using any of the items. At all. (“Our vision is to support educators, professionals, families and carers…”)

Unlike Stimtastic, which is run by an autistic person! And the difference in emphasis really shows. I would have ordered from them if they’d had much in stock that I was interested in right now. But, definitely worth checking back. Much rather support that business, yeah.

Giant ground sloths such as Lestodon lived in South America and became extinct 30,000 years ago. Directly related to sloths that are still alive today, Lestodon were far bigger, measuring approximately 15 feet from head to tail and weighing an estimated 5,710 pounds! There is evidence that ground sloths and early humans used the same caves, but not necessarily at the same time. Lestodon is considered an “armored mammal,” as evidenced by the bony plates found in its skin.
