Terrible lighting, but I spotted some type of smallish short-legged harvestman on the inside of the back door. (Which I knew needed a good wash, but eww.)

I think it may be Odiellus spinosus. They’re apparently fairly common around buildings in this part of the country, besides “the distinctive flattened appearance of the body”. But, I’m definitely no expert.

A flash shot that’s terrible too, but at least it’s not a backlit dark blob. Trying to get a better look at the markings.

Bi & Pan solidarity ❤️

This tweet angered a lot of biphobes, panphobes, terfs, and general transphobes…must be doing something right

¯_(ツ)_/¯

[Image: Tweet by Bi-Trans Alliance ( @BiTransAlliance ); transcript follows.]

If someone tells you they’re #bisexual, they’re bisexual.

If someone tells you they’re #pansexual, they’re pansexual.

If someone says they’re both bi and pan, they’re both bi and pan.

What label(s) a person uses, if any, is up to them, and should be respected.

Unsurprisingly getting angry “you can’t be bi AND pan” messages and demands that those who ID as both go on public internet trial to defend calling themselves that, and angry “bi means men and women only” messages.

Label policing never ends.

How to help Guatemala

lovingyouisredforyou:

So a few days ago (June 3, 2018), the Volcán de Fuego erupted in Guatemala. So far, as of today (June 6) at least 82 people are confirmed dead, 300 are injured, 192 are missing, and thousands have had to evacuate. The towns of El Rodeo, San Miguel, Los Lotes, and Alotenango have been buried in volcanic material. The volcano is still in eruptive phase, and even more people could be affected. x x x

If you haven’t heard about this, that’s probably because the news (at least in the United States) has barely been covering it at all. In all honesty, I only learned about it today from a Tumblr post. Even on here, though, I haven’t seen many posts telling people outside of Guatemala how they can help, so I thought I’d compile a list.

Other Ways to Help

If you know of any other ways people can help, please feel free to add them!

What I hate most about “someone always has it worse” rhetoric is that not only is it minimizing, it also promotes the act of using other people’s misfortune to feel better about your own situation. Instead of actually caring about the people who “have it worse,” you’d rather use their situations to say “Well, at least it’s not that bad.” I think that is such a hideous character trait and it’s very interesting that it is so often associated with good qualities like optimism and appreciation.

Something important I like to remember is that whether you’re in a puddle or an ocean, it’s still called drowning.
