That time I watched researchers band a Red-headed Woodpecker chick at Minnesota’s Cedar Creek Long Term Ecological Research Site. So cute!

This is CCRX-93, aka “Miracle Mo”! As this nestling got larger, we were able to attach a radio backpack to follow its movements after fledging. As of yesterday it hasn’t left the nest yet. Mo has a little mohawk.

Miracle Mo has left the nest but no longer has a radio on because this fledgling is a Bastard

Miracle Mo has been resighted and was fed acorns by its father, Paul. The mohawk is still going strong
