Unfortunately, the worst has happened and Coco has gone missing.
He flew out an open door earlier this afternoon and we haven’t seen him since. We are in eastern Virginia, so we are getting the outskirts of hurricane Florence right now, so it is highly windy and may rain quite a lot, which is very bad for him.
We looked for him for about half an hour to an hour, but there is no sign of him.
I’m heartbroken, but doing what I can.
He is about 11 months old and a bit touch shy. If you live in the Norfolk area, please be on the look out for a male white faced cockatiel. Reference pic below. Shoot me a message if you find anything. Thanks.
Nothing as of yet. Today I have to go back to school so the search won’t be able to be as active. He has been out for 2 nights now and we are extremely worried. Thank you to everyone reblogging, and even more so to those of you who have reached out to me. I appreciate all the help I can get right now
I’m Erin, my family needs at least $10 to eatthis week and $15 for a cab. I need moneyfor groceries as we had to use our money to help pay the overdraft fee. We haveno food to eat. Thanks to y’all we have done so much and I’m sorry to ask for this so soon, but we need help. I got turned down for disability and my caseworker helped me apply for SSI which I am likely to get. I am just waiting to hear back on it and that takes some time. If you want to donate, be it 1 cent or 5 cent, no amount is too small, it would be greatly appreciated and go towards food, necessities, or bills. I will repay anyone who donates in any way. We are in bad debt which is where most of our money goes currently and to basic bills. Reblogs are as helpful as donations. Nobody has to donate if they don’t want to or can’t, times are hard on everyone. No one should feel guilty.I love y’all. Please don’t send hate, I will block you.
here’s my paypal currently. we still need help. i’m sorry to be asking so much but times are getting worse for us and we need groceries as we have nothing to eat right now. ifanyone can spare 1 dollar or 1 cent it would be of a major help to us as would reblogs or just positive vibes, i’d be eternally grateful, as usual, no one has to donate if they don’t want to or can’t. i love y’all and am forever thankful for y’all, as we have no help irl.
Our community understands that keeping people in cages leads to long term trauma. It is extremely important that we continue to speak against incarceration of these vulnerable children.
Baby boomer goals: home ownership, 2.5 kids, dream vacations to florida/hawaii
Millenial goals: having any money left after bills, an apartment without roommates, dying quickly and painlessly in the initial nuclear exchange to avoid witnessing the collapse of humanity
Accurate
Guys, the fear of nuclear annihilation hung over half the 20th century, it defined the entire boomer generation. Other boomer goals included not getting drafted, marrying someone of a different race, and living past 70.
My mother’s goal was to not have her friends return from Vietnam in pine boxes
My grandmother was a boomer born in a tar paper shack on a river and her goal was to not have to live in a tar paper shack, and also not have all of her brothers die before age 30.
A lot of baby boomers are finding themselves without jobs, no savings, no retirement, no home, and having to move in with their kids while their health rapidly declines with age and drives up medical costs. The idea that they’re all wealthy and secure is bullshit. We’re all struggling.
Having Ehlers Danlos Syndrome sometimes feels about the equivalent of being composed of jello and wet spaghetti. Nothing stays where its supposed to. Literally every single cell in the body is floppy, so fingers are definitely an issue for many of us. I can almost guarantee that for the majority of us, writing is not only slow and painful but nearly impossible at times. FIne motor skills? What even are those? An EDSer surely doesn’t have any of those. Even typing which is far easier than writing, is painful and daunting at times. But last year I joined the population of shiny zebras by getting fitted for a set of Silver Rings Splints and they are beyond magical.
For those of you who have not heard of The Silver Ring Splint Company, they are a company that custom makes finger splints that look like elegant pieces of jewelry. Don’t believe me? Well I can’t even tell you how many compliments I’ve received for them. Nobody even suspects that they might possibly be medical. But more importantly, they work amazing! I still have hand pain and finger dislocations when performing fine motor skills and writing is definitely not something I look forward to but I have saved myself thousands of painful dislocations, I can open doors easier, type faster, write longer and hold objects in my hands without looking like an alien from a sic-fi movie. With the rings on my fingers actually look like fingers rather than tentacles!
The company is also family owned and the people are so sweet and helpful!
If you are having trouble with hand pain, clumsiness and dislocations please check out this amazing company!
I’m literally crying right now. I will be able to use my hands!!! As it stands I can’t do dishes, hold things, write, hold books, type, without pain or dislocation. Oh my gosh. This is a miracle.
@peaceypanic
those are gorgeous and that is amazing how well they’re working! signal boost!
I love these things. I use one for my thumb because due to arthritis I have very little strength/support in the joint and therefore often can’t do anything. My splint makes it possible for me to do my job, do the shit i need to do and not have as bad of pain.
these are so cool
omg the first ehlers danlos post I’ve seen, this makes me happy!
We love Siris Ring Splints (silverringsplints.com)! But we know not everyone has the same price points or style so we have a whole page of splints (and braces too) oer on PrettySick Supply so you can shop your own style and cost! And a lot of the folks we’ve found are others with EDS and hypermobility issues who support themselves by selling the splints they make!
So along with Crested Geckos I also keep several other species of reptile. This is the bioactive enclosure for my male Leopard Gecko, Aurelio.
The enclosure is a 40 breeder that originally belonged to my female Leopard Gecko, Bonita. But after she passed I revamped it and gave it to Aurelio. The tank took a lot of work to set up and is the result of years of experimenting with bioactive with Leopard Geckos.
The substrate is a mixture of Excavator clay, Quikrete All Purpose Sand, and a generic organic potting mix from my local hardware store. I do 50% soil, 30% sand, and 20% clay. After they were all thoroughly mixed I sieved the substrate to remove large pieces of stone and wood. When setting up the enclosure I took all the sieved wood and stone and used it to line the very bottom of the enclosure. I then added a ton of temperate springtails and some baker’s yeast to encourage mold growth. That mold becomes a good food source for springtails and bacteria that will help to keep the tank clean.
The next few steps are hard to explain in depth without pics, so I’ll keep things short and simple. Basically I added my substrate mix next, I added a black plastic hide on the right, and a half log hide on the left. Both are buried under substrate and stones so they’re basically invisible. I furnished the enclosure with stones taken from a local state park, that were then sanitized, and a couple types of plants. The plants I chose were
Euphorbia tirucalli and Sedum reflexum “yellow bouquet”. The plants are doing well and have been growing nicely.
For a cleanup crew I have temperate springtails, tropical springtails, Armadillidium vulgare isopods, dwarf white isopods, terrestrial nematodes, fungus gnats (for some people these are a pest but as maggots they can be a great cleanup crew in the soil), dubia roaches, buffalo worms/beetles, mealworms/beetles, and lots of various bacteria and fungi that are naturally present in the soil. The enclosure is only a month or so old but already my Leopard Gecko’s waste is getting broken down after only a day or so. Which is a GREAT sign!
The tank is lit with 3 grow bulbs, as well as a 24″ T5HO 10.0 UVB bulb. I strongly believe ALL reptiles should have access to UVB so despite some articles out there, I chose to give my Leopard Gecko UVB. For heating I use a 150w CHE on a thermostat. The CHE is in a wide-domed lamp allowing for max heat distribution. This gives my gecko the opportunity to thermo-regulate as he has access to basking areas ranging from 78*F up to 94*F. The ambient temp in the cage is 74*F during the day with a 2*F-4*F drop at night. As said before, Aurelio only has two hides. One cool, and one warm hide. However, due to the fact that the cage is bioactive and is misted weekly the hides are BOTH humid hides with humidity ranging from 60%-90%, something VERY important for a Leopard Gecko’s health as despite common knowledge, Leopard Gecko’s naturally seek out more humid areas and burrows in the wild. Exposing them to consistently dry conditions in captivity can be very detrimental for their health.
I’ve seen Leopard Geckos in some seriously inadequate enclosures so when I redid this tank to give it to Aurelio, I chose to give him the very best life I can. And since upgrading him, I’ve noticed him basking more in the UVB, he eats better, his color is better, and he’s noticeably more active. Keeping your animals in tubs or bare bottoms tanks is NOT natural and here at Manticora Reptiles I chose to give my animals the very best life I can in a bioactive setup.
People assume that AI is inherently an outgrowth of computer technology, but the whole point of the “programmable general purpose Von Neumann machine” is that its principles are technology-independent.
We have had AI for a at least a century.
Modern corporations are paperclip-maximizing AIs running in human wetware on an operating system of contracts, regulations, and other social constructs, and capable of self-programming by modifying that underlying operating system. They have partially migrated to a digital platform, which has allowed an increase in the speed with which they can assimilate environmental feedback and manipulate their surroundings (vis. high-speed trading).
Back in early grad school, I strongly suspected there was a good paper to write about corporate personhood and the Turing Test, but was dissuaded by my teachers. Silly academia.
