Next Tuesday (September 25) is National Voter Registration Day, a holiday that sees the nation-wide coordination of nonprofits, libraries, media companies (like Tumblr and others) and more all working to register as many eligible American to vote.
Why?
In 2016, 1 in 4 voters were deemed ineligible due to a registration problem (missed deadlines, etc.). Our democracy works BEST when more people have access and express their voice at the ballot box.
So why is this important in 2018?
One word: Midterms.
This year, decisions will be made that determine who runs your state, legislatures, governorships, city elections, and more… and how your state is represented in Congress
By all accounts, this year’s midterms are on the minds of the American people in a way that seems wholly different than 2014’s elections. A June report from Pew Research shows that voter enthusiasm toward this November’s election is up 10% over the last midterm four years prior. Many nonprofits have felt the energy in the streets and online. This year just seems to feel different.
And maybe that’s because Americans are coming to understand that midterms, while not as flashy as the general election, have MAJOR consequences on how they live their life day-to-day. At a state level, there are dozens of Governors races that have direct influence on everyday concerns – how much money will be spent on education, the environment, defense? That decision is in their hands and they know it.
For a better picture, here’s what registered American citizens will be deciding IF they are registered to vote:
· 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives
“Reblog, or else that means you don’t care about X”
“if you don’t reblog, you’re a terrible person”
As well as:
Reblog for good luck / money!
I will make an exception for people looking to find other people to follow, or looking for info. I’ll signal boost for those posts.
But nine times out of eleven, if you put “Reblog!” on my dash, I won’t.
I made this announcement a while ago, but I can’t find it in my archives, now. So I’m making a point, from here on out, to repeat this on a regular basis.
“At the Montgomery County Courthouse Tuesday, a judge sentenced the 81-year-old former TV star after two days of arguments from the prosecution and defense over whether Cosby should be considered a “sexually violent predator.”
On Tuesday, Montgomery County Judge Steven O’Neill ruled that the comedian is a “sexually violent predator.” The classification means that Cosby must undergo monthly counseling for the rest of his life and report quarterly to authorities. His name will appear on a sex-offender registry sent to neighbors, schools and victims.
Prosecutors on Monday asked a judge to give the comedian five to 10 years behind bars, while his lawyers asked for house arrest, saying the legally blind Cosby is too old and helpless to do time in prison.”
I was at the library the other day, and my daughter was playing at the Art Table with two other girls. One of the little girls’ mother was near by and said “Aren’t you girls good little artists!”
And the third girl perked up and said “My dad’s an artist!”
The woman smiled indulgently and says “Oh really, what kind?”
The little girl proudly told her “He’s a tattoo artist.”
And the woman. Oh man. Her face just twists, crumples into something nothing short of disdain, and she opens her mouth and says “That’s not…”
“An easy job,” I cut in, looking the woman in the face because really? You’re going to tell a child her dad’s not a real artist. “In fact it’s very very hard, because that art is alive forever on a person, not like on paper. And that’s scary! You have to be really good, to be a tattoo artist. Your dad must be really, really good.”
what kind of person could just try and crush a little kid like that? goddamn.
Do people not realize that tattoo artists have to know how to draw really well and produce straight precise lines on a moving canvas, and make the right color selection and know how to blend those colors and do proper shading, and a million other art things and no single client/canvas is the same and they have to adjust based on the pigment of the skin and where the person wants the tattoo?! What the hell
the wildest thing happened to me the other day i found out a male coworker is into irish music so i told him that my dad is an irish musician and would he like to come to a session and he straight up irl said to me “name 5 irish songs your dad knows”
he asked me if i play and i told him i played the fiddle when i was a teenager but havent played in years and he was like “oh cool. i play drums” as in a drum kit you know the famously folkish instrument the drum kit. bitch my name is molly o’reilly you really wanna challenge the legitimacy of my irish music involvement
