After going through your blog I see you come into contact with a lot of milquetoast nazis and was wondering if it’s possible to enjoy Burzum and still understand that Varg Vikernes is a psychopath. In cases like this can the art be separated from the artist?

thank you for your question! no

There are plenty of Neo Nazis in black metal, which is unfortunate. The genre is still fantastic. But here’s a few bands that you can check out that are most definitely not Nazi garbage and aren’t even European!

ASIA:

Rudra

Salem

Melechesh

Arsames (they’re death metal but apparently it’s illegal in Iran but Iran has a LOT of good metal)

Chthonic (blackened death metal but they’re awesome and from Taiwan)

Gallhammer

AMERICA (not just the states):

Agalloch

Wolves in the Throne Room

Alma Negra

Brujeria (more death metal but they need an honorable mention)

Belial

Chaos wolf

And more: https://www.metal-archives.com/lists/MX

METAL BANDS I KNOW FOR A FACT ARENT NEO NAZIS BECAUSE THE BAND MEMBERS ARE CHILL PEOPLE:

Primordial

Enslaved

Isengard (tbh if it is named after something Tolkien, we are in the clear)

Immortal (Abbath is a good dude!)

Dark Funeral (they’re more Satanic so)

Gorgoroth (Gaahl is openly gay and they’re lyrics are also Satanic)

Darkthrone (also Satanic and Ferniz is a good dude)

Falkenbach (solo project and it’s more about Germanic paganism. I haven’t heard anything problematic yet)

Myrkur (a solo project ran by a woman!)

Behemoth (Nergal is pretty anti-Christian and critical about the Polish government)

Wikipedia and other sites are a good way to check on whether or not their political affiliations are concerning. Unfortunately, a lot of Nazism is in the beginning of black metal (thanks, Varg) but also strongly anti-Christian.

Black metal is diverse, thankfully. Rudra’s lyrics are sometimes the Vedic scriptures and then Wolves in the Throne Room is more about the environment. Black metal exists in a lot of countries and it can be politically critical of their governments (Chthonic) or it is a tool to express yourself when you can’t always (Arsames). It’s grown, people experiment with it, and people don’t stay in the box that Mayhem wanted to be in.

A good book to read to is “Lords of Chaos” that gets into the nitty gritty history of black metal. HAVE FUN.

@copperbadge The Sisters of Terror need some high ground 😀

Polk certainly does! Deebs doesn’t seem to care but Polk keeps climbing. I’ve just bought some shelves to install near a window so she can get up high without breaking shit. I wonder if the kittens would take to those hammocky things – they seem to like being “enclosed” that way but they also won’t touch the softer of the beds I bought them.

Boozhoo (hello), my name is Ken, I am a disabled Ojibwe artist from northern Wisconsin. I am writing this post because I am having a hard time making ends meet and any donations I could possibly receive at this time would be greatly appreciated. Recent events have left my bank account depleted and my cupboards bare, I have some food but it will not last and I still do not know how I will cover all the utility bills.

I do have PayPal, that is really the best way to donate at this time, the email I use for that is: baapimakwa@gmail.com, or you can click here.

I have the opportunity to move, and this is something I desperately need to do for my health and well being, I will have better access to medical care and the services I require. To make this work I am going to need to be bringing more funds than my disability payment, I really need to get some art together and get more things on my redbubble, I would love to do something like a patreon but I don’t think I can put out timely content at this time.

I have a scanner now, I am desperately in need of a new computer, I have been using a borrowed computer for the last few months and will have to give it back before I move, and it is not compatible with my scanner and I am unable to add editing software to it even if I could.

I am trying to raise at least $1000 at this time, for moving expenses and a new laptop, I am trying to move forward but there is so much holding me back and I need help.

When Mr. C brought this in, I suspected that the “super hot” description might mean by British standards. Considering it was made here.

NOPE.

This does have a really good flavor. In small doses. Tonight, I thought that attempt at black bean chicken could use a bit of heat, so I added less than a teaspoon to the whole pan–trying to use some caution starting out. That ended up borderline overly capsaicin-tastic to my taste, and I do like me some peppers 🙄

Delicious, though. Just glad there was plenty of rice.

Not at all sure what variety/varieties they’re using, and I can’t quite place the flavor. Shame it just says “chilli” on the label.

“USING a wheelchair. USES a wheelchair.

just like WEARING glasses, WEARS glasses.

not “confined to being behind frames” or “being behind frames” or “lens-bound.”

a wheelchair is a tool. a good tool. like glasses.

this correlation isn’t something i invented. disability communities have been saying these things for years. we keep saying it until it gets imbedded.” End ID]
