I mean, the idea that withholding your vote is an effective way to send a national political party a message that they should only support candidates that you like regardless of any other considerations is such an incredibly individualistic, neoliberal approach to politics. And like, we just went through this two years ago. Come on.
I think that line of logic comes with growing up in the US and believing that we live in a democracy and that your participation in that democracy matters. Better idea tho: if the majority of the working class withheld their votes/stopped participating in the current oligopoly masquerading as democratic governance and created a new system where workers ruled themselves, that would be more effective than voting in centrist democrats for the rest of eternity 🙂
oh yeah, of course, just create a new system. Shit how did I forget about that? How’s that going anyway? You guys got something ready to go in the next month or two? Everything’s in place? The whole working class is on board? I mean, it’s so simple, and obviously everyone will go along with it. I know you guys are great with planning and logistics and aren’t just wasting your time posting guillotine memes. I’m so glad you added this helpful suggestion to my post 🙂
At least the timing worked out better than it could have with this virus garbage. Mr. C got sick Wednesday, and had already planned to take Thursday and Friday off as “use it or lose it” vacation days. Today, he seems to have his voice back some.
At this point, he may not be going in Monday either unless things drastically improve tomorrow, but that is at least less time missed. Even if I’m fairly sure that wasn’t what he was planning to do with the long weekend 😩
He’s one of those people who rarely gets sick, and usually throws it off quickly when he does. Bit of a surprise whenever it does drag on even this long.
As for me, I wasn’t totally sure Thursday if I was also coming down with it, or if it was just an extra crappy day, “normal” chronic illness styley. Then I suddenly got exhausted and had to lie down for a couple of hours–which somehow turned into 11 or 12!
My throat hasn’t been as bad as his, and thankfully so far the asthma hasn’t been going crazy (*fingers crossed*). So, hopefully it won’t mean a couple of months of coughing this time. I don’t care as much about the rest, as long as I can breathe. (Or so I tell myself…) Not much fun right now, but priorities.
But, that’s a decent summary of the past few days around here.
I did get an NHS flu shot letter with clinic times this year, with diabetes putting me in a priority group. And yeah this is a good reminder to try and get out to do that, once this bout with the crud is over.
Similar to some chicken noodle soup I put together this evening, without a recipe. Working in a little of the bunch of collards which have been hanging out in the fridge while I haven’t been up dealing with them 🙄
More vegetable chopping and standing in the kitchen than I really needed to do today, but a nice pot of soup was exactly what we needed with this cold/flu/mystery creeping crud and the rain.
Wish I’d made a bigger batch with more than 2L worth of broth, to have more left for tomorrow. I’m usually the main soup fan around here, but my partner polished off a lot of it tonight. Must have hit the spot for him, too.
Offense but I honestly think any dude that’s like “scared to be a young man in america right now” like, by you explicitly saying this I can guarantee you’re terrifying the women in your life more bud lol
I guess this depends on what you mean by “young man.”
If you are talking about young black/brown men, I 100% agree that they have more issues than I do as a woman.
If you are talking about white guys who dislike people talking down to them on Tumblr, then I agree they need to sit back and rethink what they just said.
The former case has applied since America’s founding, though. In the context of Trump’s recent comments on Dr. Ford’s testimony, which this refers to, the men who say this are admitting that they perceive public institutions willing to listen to women who come forward with allegations of sexual assault as a threat.
