ASAN Condemns Trump Administration’s Attack on Transgender Americans

autisticadvocacy:

Yesterday, the New York Times reported
that the Trump administration is considering adopting a federal
standard which would exclude transgender and intersex people from the
protections of many anti-discrimination laws and policies. There is a significant overlap
between the autistic and transgender communities – and since autistic
people first began organizing, many of our strongest leaders have been
trans and intersex. An attack on trans people’s rights is an attack on
the autistic community. We strongly condemn this bigoted attack, and we
will fight this attempt to enshrine transphobia in our nation’s
regulations and laws.

The trans and autistic communities
are connected by our shared struggle for self-determination—our
fundamental belief that it is every person’s right to decide how they
will live their own life. Trans people deserve to live safely and free
from discrimination in their communities, and to be truly included in
school, in the workplace, and in public spaces. Recent, hard-won federal
protections have begun to move us closer to that world. Now the Trump
administration once again wants to turn back the clock, giving legal
cover to bigotry and exclusion. Autistic people and the broader
disability community have fought for inclusion for decades – we know how
vital it is for everyone to be welcomed in their communities. This is a
part of that fight, and we will not back down.

Throughout our history, ASAN has been
proud to partner with LGBT advocates & organizations. ASAN worked
closely with the National Center for Transgender Equality and the
National LGBTQ Taskforce on a joint statement
affirming the rights of autistic trans people, and the partnership of
the LGBT community was instrumental in our fight against the Murphy
bill, which would have stripped away key civil rights protections from
many autistic people. Our communities are interconnected, and our rights
are too. We are proud of our trans community members, and proud to be
part of a broad coalition of civil rights organizations uniting to
defeat this and any other attack on our civil and human rights.

Bisexuals have the worst access to a regular doctor, new report says

projectqueer:

The report takes data from 2011 to 2014 to assess healthcare amongst lesbian, gay, bisexual, and straight adults in the state. Overall, the authors of the report found LGB adults have ‘similar or better rates of insurance coverage compared to straight women and men’, but they are more likely to delay seeking medical attention.

Previous reports support this finding, and it often comes down to discrimination. Susan Babey, a co-author of the new report, confirmed this: ‘Sexual minorities who have had a bad experience with a medical provider because of their sexual orientation may try to avoid repeating it.’

#CancelYandy Part 1: on the invisibilization and criminalization of Indigenous peoples

Sources:

As a white woman, I promise to never purchase any of these “money making” costumes. Never have, never will. I am sorry for the dehumanization and ignoring of Native Americans. I see you, I hear you, and I respect you.

What the rest of us need to do is to STOP BUYING these costumes, so they are no longer “money makers”. If the corporations don’t listen to anyone else, they will listen to whatever brings them the most money.

Can I watch a great film knowing the actresses in it were terrorized and mistreated the entire time? Can I watch a football game knowing that the players are getting brain injuries right before my eyes? Can I listen to my favorite albums anymore knowing that the singers were all beating their wives in between studio sessions? Can I eat at the new fancy taco place knowing when the building that used to be there got bulldozed eight families got kicked out of their homes so they could be replaced with condos and a chain restaurant? Can I wear the affordable clothes I bought downtown that were probably assembled in a sweatshop with child labor? Can I eat quinoa?

Can I eat this burger? Can I drink this bottled water? Can I buy a car and drive to work because I’m sick of taking an hour each way on the subway? Whose bones do I stand on? Whose bones am I standing on right now?

I’m sorry to ask but I’m really confused with the ao3 thing? What’s going on? I couldn’t find anything about it when I googled it

Ao3 was literally set up by people who wanted to post post snape / hermione because mods on the big fic site at the time (I actually can’t remember what it’s called fml, but it wasn’t ff.net) wouldn’t allow adults to write child / adult porn.

also that freak who wrote the mortal instruments was part of that group. Lel

Basically people are saying, don’t give these people your money, especially when they’re just going to pocket it and not actually use it for the website (they’ve been asking for donations for YEARS and the site is the exact same with only minor tweaks). Whatever if you use ao3, I think we can all acknowledge it’s the most comprehensive fic site, but don’t hand them $ when meanwhile LGBT teens are homeless and constantly putting up donation posts here and getting nothing back. There’s better ways to spend your money, and if you want to monetarily support (not creepy) lgbt fic writers, actually buy them kofis or commission them!

EDIT: it was livejournal

Actually it was born when Livejournal mass deleted lgbt groups and victim therapy groups, specifically reported by an anti-gay group who disguised their concerns as being anti-paedophilia by throwing just enough questionable content files up to convince LJ to sweep the whole lot no questions asked.

Disproportionately the purge came after marginalised groups of all stripes more than anything that could even be loosely defined as paedo.

By pretending it really was an anti-paedophilia move you’re supporting aggressively homophobic organisations in their attacks.

To further this point, I would point out LJ is owned and run in Russia and the TOS now forbids ‘homosexual propaganda’ and includes any form of discussion re: lgbt existing let alone issues faced by them in that category. Unless you want to pretend Russian anti-homosexuality laws are totes the ultimate paedophile protection, (in which case go fuck yourself,) it’s really fucking stupid to pretend strikethrough was a pedo purge.

On another point: server space and bandwith are not free you stupid ignorant dog fucker. Donating to a thing you like to use to allow it to continue to exist is a different thing to charitable actions, think pay-what-you-want video games like humble bundle where the choice to pay nothing exists.

Unless you want to go on about how you’re fucking over lgbt youth by buying yourself any form of fun food, or entertainment while people are homeless, in which case, also go fuck yourself.

Essentially, if you try to police fandom and support morality crusades based on fiction (especially while lying about shit), you are NOT an lgbt supporter, a feminist, a champion for abuse survivors, or someone who cares about minors.

You’re just a wanker who’s patting themselves on the back for harassing people and probably perpetuating vicious bigotry in the form of sexism, racism, and lgbt-phobias, so yeah, ’go fuck yourself

it’s facial reconstructions of prehistoric humans!!

like, look at this part-homo sapiens, part-neandertal man from well over 30,000 years ago:

doesn’t he just look like a dude you’d wanna hang out with? like he probably washes dishes in the kitchen with you, and has excellent weed

what a charming fellow. what stories he probably has to tell. i’d definitely go shoot the shit with him on Contemplation Rock after i’d finished my day’s work carving a bone flute for the autumn hunting ceremony, or whatever

people have been people ever since people first became people, i tell you what

they all had lives and histories and families and friends and dumb gossip and games they played and total bullshit in which they believed wholeheartedly

they all argued about the nature of the world, and of themselves

they all sang songs

they all drew pictures

they all buried their dead in graves, and they buried their dead in graves well before they did a lot of that other stuff. they buried their dead with flowers, with panther claws, with the bones of animals they’d killed, with the bones of family members who had died at the same time or earlier. they buried their dead with their arms folded across their chests

they fell in love

they took care of their old and their sick and their disabled, even when it cost them

they made new things, and worried about what the new things meant for people everywhere, as a whole

Oh I like him he looks like he would appreciate my jokes

This dude would have great stories at a get-together and would bring some really great homemade dip.

I feel like he really digs Lo-Fi Music

This guy was sculpted by Alfons and Adrie Kennis, and their Neanderthal reconstructions are all delightful

I love the kid in the last picture a lot- they look like a kid, just a little kid who’s done some mischief and is trying not to laugh about it.

I also adore their Lucy- they’ve struck a wonderful balance between the falling angel and the rising ape.

And their Turkana boy- there’s something precious and wistful in those eyes.

But my favorite has got to be their reconstruction of H. floresiensis.

Just look at her. That’s a face of someone who’s lived and seen a lot, but also a face that’s known love and joy and laughter. That’s a face with a soul

They are all beautiful

What an amazing work, Kennis & Kennis!
