Thursday, October 25th  Hi everyone, I’m Gemma and I’m so sorry to ask this again so soon from my (please help me avoid eviction post) as I still desperately need help.

As many of you may know, I’ve been struggling these past few months, literally since the new year in January, because I’ve had my welfare benefits (Universal Credit and Housing Benefit) revoked under the UK’s controversial changes to how benefits are assessed and assigned and due to my mental illnesses, I am unable to find work despite my many applications. And if anyone has ever had their benefits sanctioned or capped, then you’ll understand how much of a struggle and death sentence it is.    

And at the moment my U.C benefit is under a “capped- sanction” and the £185 that I received today went towards paying off some of my utilities, tax and other bills, leaving me with nothing to help pay my electricity & heating or get groceries for this month. The photo above is how much I have until November 25th and I know that I have asked this a lot these past few months and all the help I have previously received has literally helped me from spiralling into more debt and helped me to eat and stay warm so far and I absolutely hate to ask for more help but I have no one else to turn to and government aid/food banks are unable to offer me anymore assistance.

If anyone could spare any amount to help me, even if it’s just £1/$1/€1, it would literally save my life and, sharing definitely helps just as much as donations. Nobody has to donate if they can’t or don’t want to, I know we’re all struggling. Thank you for your help 💖

Seriously though, my mother could come out with some of the cringiest 2nd Wave crap. With some of it directly harmful to people like me.

But, I still feel like I was better off being raised hearing that than some other kinds of ideological BS.

(That’s also a good bit of the reason I have such a low tolerance now for Zombie Bad ‘70s Politics, tbqh. Maybe especially of the concern trolling kind. It would be tiresome enough anyway, but I heard more than enough hurtful shit like that to last a lifetime before I was 10. And people persist in resurrecting it😩)

UN Panel Declares France’s ‘Burqa Ban’ Violates Muslim Women’s Rights

The U.N. Human Rights Committee has declared that France’s ban on full-face Islamic veils, such as the niqab and burqa, is a violation of Muslim women’s rights.

The committee, a body of 18 independent experts that monitors how nations implement an international civil rights treaty, said that France has failed to adequately explain why the 2010 law, which has come to be known as a burqa ban, was necessary.

“In particular, the Committee was not persuaded by France’s claim that a ban on face covering was necessary and proportionate from a security standpoint or for attaining the goal of ‘living together’ in society,” the committee said in a statement on Tuesday. “The Committee acknowledged that States could require that individuals show their faces in specific circumstances for identification purposes, but considered that a general ban on the niqab was too sweeping for this purpose.”

The committee, one of the many U.N. rights-monitoring groups supported by the U.N.’s Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, added that the ban confines women who wear full-face veils to their homes, “impeding their access to public services and marginalizing them.”

Gen X. We came of age with movies like Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, and Revenge of the Nerds. Date rape scenes were “funny.” Harassment meant you were “hot.” Getting pinned to a wall by a guy at work, at school, or a party was “normal.” Relax. Don’t be so uptight. You know you want it.

Local news channels here in Jacksonville have been covering this on Facebook. All the Trumpflakes all over our fair state are calling it fake. It’s fun to read. Their biggest claim is that it’s obviously fake because the stickers are too fresh.
